Two glasses of bubbles in and I'm feelin' fine!!!

AcrossthePond55 · 07/11/2020 19:09

With all the crowds around the WH, how's Scrotus going to get back in?

And who cares.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 07/11/2020 19:09

Who says, lion?

BoreOfWhabylon · 07/11/2020 19:09

@Jaichangecentfoisdenom

Anyone else feeling they are slowly waking up from a particularly bad, 4 year long nightmare?
That's exactly how I feel too!

Nevada has just been called for Biden too (heard on BBC)

SorrelForbes · 07/11/2020 19:09

The BBC need to put the newly called states in the breaking news ticker tape when they bump the tally up. We were trying to remember which of the remaining states had six votes.

Apileofballyhoo · 07/11/2020 19:12

What happens Kamala's Senate seat now?

lionheart · 07/11/2020 19:13

Fox, NBC, BBC ...

I am just so joyful and hopeful. I have been weepy all day just processing that it's finally over. I'm so proud to be a Philadelphian right now :) It's not often that we get good press (what with lighting the city on fire when we win a football game and whatnot), but Philly is passionate about what it cares about and they came out and VOTED.

As a few others have expressed, thank you to everyone in these threads. It gives me hope seeing so many other women come together in the name of democracy - especially those with no personal connection to the US!

Governor Newsom (Dem) appoints a successor.
Furries · 07/11/2020 19:15

I had the mother of all headaches and fell asleep, so I missed the big moment. Have woken up, headache has gone and fantastic news was waiting for me.

I have mostly lurked, have learnt a lot from these threads about the US political process, and have tended to check in here first to find out what’s happening. Thank you so much to everyone who has taken the time to explain things along the way.

To those in the USA - huge congratulations, a new beginning is on its way and I hope you enjoy your celebrations tonight. Have just been messaging with my ex-boss from the States who is over the blooming moon!

Another one definitely wanting the threads to continue - got a feeling that there are going to be some interesting situations cropping up before The Trumpster is finally dragged out of the WH.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 07/11/2020 19:15

Thanks, lion and others.

(has the github site stopped updating, anyone know?)

First lady Melania Trump is not expected to make any sort of public statement or comment today, neither in support of her husband’s efforts to challenge Joe Biden’s win, nor to acknowledge the Biden victory, a White House official tells CNN.

Behind the scenes, she has been "keeping to herself," and she has not engaged in any strategy sessions with other Trump family members or senior administration officials, a source with knowledge of Trump’s activities tells CNN.

She's in Florida still isn't she?

Big hugs to you from a Californian. East and West, hand in hand!

DH and I watched all of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia during lockdown Charlotte. Most bizarre comedy ever.

Apileofballyhoo · 07/11/2020 19:20

Oh thanks Across. Not a by-election like we'd have here.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 07/11/2020 19:20

Woah! Just had a manic 2 hours of calls with DH’s family in the US. Parents (90+) life long (very active) Dems are over the effing moon. They said they thought they were going to have to go to their graves with Trump still in the WH. We said “no way!” - that they are going to be here in 2024 when Kamala is elected President!

I hope your all get your well-deserved sleep tonight! Grin

AcrossthePond55 · 07/11/2020 19:20

DS2 just woke up. I'd snuck into his room and quietly told him earlier but he was half asleep. He just came out and said "Do I really have a new president or did I dream it?". It took us repeating it three times before he really took it in.

This is going to be so good for his MH. And really, for everyone's.

AcrossthePond55 · 07/11/2020 19:22

It varies from state to state. Some have 'special elections' which I assume is the same as your by-elections, others do a gubernatorial appointment.

'n the 1956 book When Prophecy Fails, three social psychologists studied a small religious sect in Chicago called “the seekers,” who believed that the world would soon be destroyed by a flood, and that a flying saucer was coming to save them. The seekers were deeply invested in the prophecy’s fulfillment—many had quit jobs and left spouses to prepare. On the appointed day, they gathered at their leader’s home to wait for deliverance. The psychologists wanted to know how the seekers would react when the world didn’t end. Would they realize they’d been duped? Denounce their former belief system? Turn on their prophet? As it turned out, no. When Armageddon failed to materialize, they simply decided that God had spared Earth from destruction because of their faith; that they had been right all along.

On Tuesday night, about 100 MAGA diehards convened on a Washington, D.C., rooftop to await an Election Night miracle....'

From a small midlands town in the UK I'm astonished at the celebrations here - so many celebratory fireworks! Grin So pleased for you all over there and the world in general.
