Adam Sandler films ....

Just watching another yawn fest from Mr Sandler, which Netflix seems to be chock full of. My OH likes the humour and it was his choice this evening.

Don't get me wrong, there's a couple of great films in his back catalogue, but it all seems so formulaic now. It's just a bit of fun for him and his mates really, isn't it?

@SprinkleKnees

I really liked reign over me. Don't get the love for uncut gens though it was so boring 😴
It was abysmal!

So much shouting, nonsense story, unlikeable characters, bad acting. Just a waste of time!

LonelyFromCorona · 06/11/2020 13:21

He has some okay ones in his repertoir.
Big Daddy, The Water Boy, Little Nicky, Grown Ups 1, Anger Management

Most are awful though.

ClementineWoolysocks · 06/11/2020 13:24

I love some of his films, especially the ones with Drew Barrymore (Blended, Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates) they're cute and I couldn't love Drew more if I tried.
I agree Hubie Halloween was absolute bilge.

Pimmsypimms · 06/11/2020 14:05

Completely agree op. We watched Hubie Halloween and I didnt laugh once. It was painful to watch. I only watched it because I thought ds7 might enjoy it. I don't think he laughed much either.
I usually actively avoid anything with him in it, but thought I'd give this one a go, with it being a Halloween film and all......that'll teach me Hmm

TeachesOfPeaches · 06/11/2020 14:07

I think Netflix must have bought his whole back catalogue as I noticed a load of his films dumped there at once

Treaclepie19 · 06/11/2020 14:12

I like about half of his films. All the ones with Drew Barrymore in. As well as Mr Deeds, Click, Big Daddy and Just go with it.

Bubbinsmakesthree · 06/11/2020 14:16

I think he’s pretty talented - the likes of Punch Drunk Love show he’s capable of “proper” acting and he brings an easy charm to films like the Wedding Singer (he’s great alongside Drew Barrymore).

But I wouldn’t watch most of his back catalogue if you paid me.

Janegrey333 · 06/11/2020 14:17

I like Adam. Smile

WhataFarce76 · 06/11/2020 14:21

What annoys me is that it's practically the same cast in every film he's in! You can practically guarantee that Kevin James, Rob Schneider, David Spade, Steve Buscemi, and others, will turn up.
Gets very boring, like you are watching the same film over and over again.

Brainfogmcfogface · 06/11/2020 14:42

Little Nicky is the shiznit

TeachesOfPeaches · 06/11/2020 14:47

Seth Rohan's entire career is playing himself and I can't seem to ever get enough

TeachesOfPeaches · 06/11/2020 14:47

Seth Rogan

Uncut gems was good

Member984815 · 06/11/2020 14:56

Forgot reign on me , I watched because I thought it was comedy but it had me balling , maybe it's reign over me

Holothane · 06/11/2020 14:58

Loathe these sort of films anything that is comedy just doesn’t work for me.

swansongs · 06/11/2020 15:48

Aren't his films really for teens? I think we're the wrong demographic.

movingonup201 · 06/11/2020 16:19

I don't mind him in films where he talks normally, but what is it with that (frankly offensive) voice he does for so many characters?

DBML · 06/11/2020 16:29

I hate the stupid fucking voices he does. Annoying bastard make me want o rip my own ears of and throw them at the TV.

Ginkypig · 06/11/2020 17:41

Click

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 06/11/2020 17:46

I used to like his films but there's something a bit creepy about him and the character he plays. The murder thing with Jennifer Aniston recently was good.

Little Nicky, The Waterboy, Hapoy Gilmore and Hubie Halloween are the same character. Yes the voice seems disablist but the character has a special skill and a good heart and always wins out in spite of their own community perceiving them to be stupid when they aren't.
It's generally the 'typical winner' who misses out on the prize or the girl in these films. They are formulaic but you root for the good guy usually.

Tezza1 · 06/11/2020 21:04

There is some thought that the idea that that was stolen.

Tezza1 · 06/11/2020 21:11

That's to @Mochudubh. This is the movie: www.imdb.com/title/tt0360032/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_6

Apparently, Michael Caton discussed the plans for its production with Rob Schneider when they were filming The Animal and Schneider told the plot to Sandler.

upsetandang · 07/11/2020 10:15

oh no ben stiller is a dream

I used to like Adam Sandler when I was about 10. watching as an adult makes me cringe
