Adam Sandler films ....

Just watching another yawn fest from Mr Sandler, which Netflix seems to be chock full of. My OH likes the humour and it was his choice this evening.

Don't get me wrong, there's a couple of great films in his back catalogue, but it all seems so formulaic now. It's just a bit of fun for him and his mates really, isn't it?

I like some of his films but I watched the worst film ever by him That's my Boy it's just eww and slightly put me off Adam Samberg from Brooklyn 99 as well.

'Big Daddy' from the mid 00's was brilliant.I just loved that film and so did our kids .It was one of the films that was watched over and over again in our family. Not too keen on his other films though.

Grown ups is funny. Also the twin one, forget the name

@Yellownotblue

What’s wrong with 50 first dates? I rewatched it with DCs last month and they both enjoyed it (as did I, it always chokes me up even though I usually hate romcoms).

The Meyerowitz stories is one of the best movies I watched last year. He was excellent in a comedy-dramatic register.

I actually enjoyed that, apart from the ridiculous walrus!

I think I need to see some of his more serious films (actually think he's fairly good looking and could perhaps fancy him in the right role). Are they on Netflix though?

Thank you that's another one I remember liking. That's 3 then. Out of how many?? Grin

I hate Adam Sandler. I remember really liking someone on a date years ago mostly because he said he hated Adam Sandler. He’s utterly shit.

YES!! The first ten minutes of that film made me feel sick, I couldn't believe what I was watching! Shock

The Longest Yard is a decent watch and I think there's actually a decent actor in there somewhere. His quality control is non existent though. However, I'd quite merrily feed him to the pigs for Little Nicky.

D4rwin · 06/11/2020 10:09

I despise his work and honestly I have gone off Drew Barrymore as a result, obviously she supports his vile racist, misogynistic, abelist etc etc etc brand of "humour".

munchbunch12 · 06/11/2020 10:16

I liked The wedding Singer too, and his Dracula in the Hotel Transylvania films, but that's about it!

Fuss · 06/11/2020 10:22

The early stuff like Little Nicky, Waterboy, Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison were great I thought. The kids watched little Nicky on repeat.

Something went wrong somewhere because I don’t even attempt them now. Most get awful reviews.

chocolatemademefat · 06/11/2020 10:28

YANBU. The worst one I saw was Funny People. Paid to watch it at the cinema and half an hour into the movie I wanted to scream with boredom. Nothing funny whatsoever. He seems to have a formula and won’t deviate from it. And that horrible horrible voice!

AriesTheRam · 06/11/2020 10:33

Little Nicky is the biggest pile of dross ever made

AryaStarkWolf · 06/11/2020 10:35

He does play one of two characters in almost all his films but I still enjoy them, sorry Grin

BrumBoo · 06/11/2020 10:38

I liked Click! But generally no, he's awful. I did enjoy him taking the mick a bit out of himself in Brooklyn 99 though.

Londongent · 06/11/2020 10:40

I wish I had the remote control from Click so I could re-wind that time I spent watching it. One of the worst films I have ever seen

But Terry Crewes......

Little Nicky and the Waterboy were early warning signs tbf.

I really liked reign over me. Don't get the love for uncut gens though it was so boring 😴

DS and I watched Hubie Halloween, I wasn’t sure what to expect but we both really enjoyed it. I did have a WTF moment at first with how his character spoke but got over it. The humour is more towards slapstick does you need to enjoy that sort of humour.

Mochudubh · 06/11/2020 11:32

I can't stand him. I sat through the one where he and Kevin James (who I have a bit of a weird crush on) had to pretend to be a gay couple. It was full of gay stereotypes and "don't bend over in the shower" type jokes, just horrible.

True but the end message of that film was one of tolerance and equality.
The idea that it was wrong to treat them differently on the basis of their sexuality.
I thought that was one of his better movies personally

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 06/11/2020 11:40

Even dd couldn’t sit through Hubie Halloween. Nice concept but impossible to follow- also needless sexism shoehorned in willy nilly.

I had him down as a has-been. Then I watch Uncut Gems. I’m in the trade- I know people like that- it was such a perfect portrayal. Horrible but true. Fabulous film.

Fair enough. It was all laid on very thick though, the dropped soap scene literally made me cringe.
