I'm in a group chat with girls on our new build estate I've sent out a pre warning as hubby has gone and bought some. Everyone was fine and said they will be in there gardens to watch then one of the girls asked us not too as her dog has severe panic attacks.

don't know what to do? Kids have been looking forward to them.

aibu to go ahead and do them?

If it were just one night but it isnt. We have had fireworks most nights since they went on sale. In past years its from mid october until mid january. I cannot sedate my dog every single night through out the dark nights.

@stillsomewhatsheldonesque

I wish I hadn’t clicked but it is important that people do.

Heartbreaking Sad

I did have doubts about posting a link. It made me cry but I think people need to see the reality of fireworks.

It's not just about dogs being scared for one night. It is so much more.

Melx42 · 10/11/2020 19:36

I never understand this. If people know their pets are going to be frightened at this time of year, every year then isn't there something they can do about it?
Maybe I'm just being heartless because I'm not a dog person and my cats have never been bothered by them but surely it's to be expected each year

What should we do with our terrified dogs? Buy them ear defenders? My dog is absolutely terrified and we build a den for him, have a thunder jacket and he still shakes and paces uncontrollably. That said fireworks on November 5th is a given, but all around that date and for weddings, birthdays, funerals, gender reveal is an absolute joke. I truly believe that they should banned and sold only to displays and even then we don't need the excessive loudness

Should have bought low noise level ones anyway in order to be considerate 🤷‍♀️

We have had so so so so many this year and last night for at least a continuous 3 hours. One lot last night was so close it was as if a neighbour had put on a private very expensive show just for me actually so I enjoyed that to an extent and it is Diwali in perhaps the most Indian area of the UK. However we have had it all from all kinds of people since late October when it used to be only on 5 November so is certainly an extended firework time now. I am not sure how good it is for teh air, the environment never mind a waste of money that could be spent on food for the poor either but each to their own.

And Happy Diwali to any MN hindu posters which was yesterday. There was a really lovely well dressed man in Waitrose yesterday
when I was in in full costume on his way to something. Now Diwali, Guy Fawkes night, Hallowe'en are all now over can we from today just stop fireworks until 31 December?

That is terribly sad. I for one hope that soon they are restricted to licensed events

Geoman23 · 06/09/2021 20:21

Go for it! I light off fireworks and follow all the rules and obey hours and days allowed, and still get whiney candy assed neighbors that complain. Yet these ones complaining are the same ones that run their generator 24/7, use power tools at the crack of dawn, and have parties w people over late at night, and continue to trailers in their driveway, which cause their cars to hang over the sidewalk and park blocking our driveways.

takehomepay · 06/09/2021 20:23

ZOMBIE. I was wondering why OP had bought fireworks in early Sep.
