To feel sorry for Trump?

tartanti · 04/11/2020 21:27

I’ve name changed for this as I know I will get completely flamed. But AIBU to secretly feel a little bit sorry for Trump? He campaigned so hard for this election compared to Biden and seemed to put his absolute all into it.

The amount of hate he gets on social media is astounding - I honestly don’t know how one person can handle all that and keep on going. I would have had a nervous breakdown or worse by now if I was on the receiving end of that.

His kids clearly love him and they seem alright - perhaps he’s not so bad behind the scenes? I think losing this election will destroy him as a person and whilst I don’t agree with his political viewpoint, I can’t help but feel slightly sorry for the guy.

AIBU?

Your empathy is misplaced OP. He's a narcissist. He doesn't experience the same emotions as you and won't feel like a failure.

Mydogmylife · 04/11/2020 22:16

@tartanti

He fancies Ivanka (ewwww)

Now that is just silly!

Sadly no - there is a toe curling interview with him in which he discusses his daughter 'cough' assets in a way which a father should never talk about his daughter
Kazziek · 04/11/2020 22:16
Biscuit I mean, how the fuck could you feel sorry for a lying, sexist, racist pervert? The poor diddums is going to get his ass sued. Deservedly. He has made his country a laughing stock, he has defrauded his country, he is quite frankly a tango shit gibbon. YTA.
NeonGenesis · 04/11/2020 22:17

I agree that the Trump hatred is ridiculous. It's as if it's a competition to see who can hate him the most, as if that makes them somehow a better person, and it got really boring years ago.

Still, I don't feel sorry for him. Not at all. He's a big boy who gives just as good as he gets. If he can't handle it then he shouldn't be in politics. Nobody forced him. I'm fact, I'm pretty sure a lot of people discouraged his entry into politics... Halloween Wink

Whydoiwearsomuchleopardprint · 04/11/2020 22:17

Please tell me you are not real? So depressing to read stuff like feeling sorry for him, seriously?? You are so Aibu that I want to cry.

Mumofsend · 04/11/2020 22:17

Children in cages. Does anymore need to be said?

NullcovoidNovember · 04/11/2020 22:17

Not read the thread, I don't think it will destroy him in the slightest! He's not a politician.. He'll and his family will think wow... What an incredible ride!

What a punt he initially took! A massive jokey gamble and it paid off!.

tartanti · 04/11/2020 22:18

Thanks to those of you who’ve reminded me of some of his dreadful policies - that is making me feel much less sympathy.

I would like to emphasise that I totally disagree with his politics. But I just can’t help feeling a bit sorry for someone facing such huge humiliation and hate on a worldwide scale. I would completely crumple and it would kill me!

“Tango shit gibbon”

Fantastic

He really is this.

I’m glad Biden is going to win because I think he’s a good person and I like him. But I can’t help feeling sorry for Trump at the same time. I felt really sorry for Theresa May when she left office too, and David Cameron - despite not agreeing with much of their politics. What is wrong with me?
I want Biden to win, mainly because I want to see the Donald have a huge tantrum like the big egotistical man baby that he is.

I don't like Biden and I don't think he is a good person, not by a long way. But I think he is marginally less of an awful person than Trump. Although let's face it, the bar is not high.

I've been able to feel some sympathy for most UK Prime Ministers leaving office, even if I didn't like them or agree with their politics. I felt some sympathy for Teresa May because I think her task was impossible and everyone knew it and that was why they were willing to let her become leader, so that she could take the fall. I don't think I'll be able to muster any sympathy whatsoever for Boris or any of the current cabinet when their time is up. I bet Teresa May is kicking back and laughing her arse off at how Boris was so keen for her job and he's making an even bigger mess of it than she did.

@LaurieFairyCake

I think you need to sit down with a bottle of wine

There are probably more than a billion people who deserve your good thoughts over this mad Wotsit

LaurieFairyCake, will you kindly stop calling him a Wotsit. I've seen it on several threads now. I adore Wotsits and you are in danger of putting me off them for life...

Could we find another name? Any other name will do... just not a Wotsit, please...

Yes but you are bestowing this human cesspit with qualities and sensibilities he is and never has been in possession of.

Don’t!

1Morewineplease · 04/11/2020 22:20

No I don't feel sorry for him.
Yes he worked very hard in his campaign but it's because he doesn't want to lose power.
His wife clearly doesn't love him and his children merely want to attach themselves to his coattails so that they might have position in the future.
There's no affection at all between him and his family.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 04/11/2020 22:20

Yes, pp has said a "Tango Shit Gibbon", that'll do nicely! Grin

Tell that to the starving homeless people of America, or those who’ve lost family in the pandemic, or those who’ve died at the hand of the police.

His little boy lost number really worke don you hasn’t it?

Humiliation and Hate?

What’s that phrase about reaping what you sow? Do you think he would be SO hated if his behaviour hadn’t been so despicable and damaging to millions of people?

You are bang out of order OP. I hope you are never called up for jury service.

Mischance · 04/11/2020 22:21

Lord above!!! Now I have heard everything!

No I do not feel sorry for him and do not imagine that his family are happy - they are his puppets.

wellthatsunusual · 04/11/2020 22:22

But I just can’t help feeling a bit sorry for someone facing such huge humiliation and hate on a worldwide scale. I would completely crumple and it would kill me!

You're not taking into account his huge ego. He's not facing any sort of humiliation at all because even if he loses, which he might not, he won't accept it, he will be convinced that he has been cheated. You can only feel humiliated if you think you have lost. But even if 100% of the electorate voted against him, he simply wouldn't believe it.

BorderlineHappy · 04/11/2020 22:22

I think losing this election will destroy him as a person

So 2020 has a silver lining then.

user1481840227 · 04/11/2020 22:22

I saw a video the other day where the interviewer asked people what they thought about certain Donald Trump quotes...after getting their responses about how awful and racist and blah blah he was the interviewer told them that they were in fact Joe Biden quotes and asked them did that change their opinion.

They said no lol

I don't think Biden is any way better than Trump and his touchy feeliness is horrible, especially with children, he makes them so uncomfortable!

Also he seems like he has dementia or something, will he even last 4 years as president?

NeonGenesis · 04/11/2020 22:22

I’m glad Biden is going to win because I think he’s a good person

Really? What makes you think he's a good person? I understand that many are voting for him simply as a way to get Trump out, which I get, but I haven't heard many people say anything positive about him as an individual. Apart from the fact that he isn't Trump, what on earth is good about him? I think There's be A queue of young women who would disagree with you...

crimsonclover · 04/11/2020 22:22

He's a narcissist - he won't be destroyed by this, although he might destroy those around him because of it. He'll live the rest of his life believing he was robbed, and everyone around him will agree in fear. He'll have investors in the palm of his hand - just as he does his voters. We'll never know how many Americans have lost their lives due to their leader reassuring them the Covid wasn't dangerous.

bumblingbovine49 · 04/11/2020 22:23

To add to everything everyone has said he is also a tax evader
www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-54323654

The New York Times has obtained decades of tax information on US President Donald Trump. The records reveal "chronic losses and years of tax avoidance", the newspaper says.

What are the report's key allegations?
The president paid just $750 (£580) in federal income tax both in 2016, the year he ran for the US presidency, and in his first year in the White House

He paid no such taxes in 11 of 18 years of tax records examined by the newspaper

The president has managed to lower his taxes through reporting hefty losses on his businesses

After the success of The Apprentice TV show he did initially pay significant taxes - $95m over 18 years. But he later got most of that back via a $72.9 million federal tax refund. The refund remains under review

Mr Trump's daughter, Ivanka, has helped reduce the family's tax bill through large "consulting fees"

He is personally responsible for hundreds of millions of dollars in loans, most of which will come due in the next four years

He has claimed tax deductions on expenses including $70,000 of hair styling for television

Four years ago, when Hilary Clinton upbraided him over how little tax he paid, Mr Trump replied: "That makes me smart." Several leading Republicans have backed him on that

Mischance · 04/11/2020 22:23

I would completely crumple and it would kill me! - we can but hope that the same applies to Trump! Grin

But I do hear what you are saying in the sense that I could never be a politician and survive all that hate and argument.
