To feel sorry for Trump?

tartanti · 04/11/2020 21:27

I’ve name changed for this as I know I will get completely flamed. But AIBU to secretly feel a little bit sorry for Trump? He campaigned so hard for this election compared to Biden and seemed to put his absolute all into it.

The amount of hate he gets on social media is astounding - I honestly don’t know how one person can handle all that and keep on going. I would have had a nervous breakdown or worse by now if I was on the receiving end of that.

His kids clearly love him and they seem alright - perhaps he’s not so bad behind the scenes? I think losing this election will destroy him as a person and whilst I don’t agree with his political viewpoint, I can’t help but feel slightly sorry for the guy.

AIBU?

I just find it hilarious that I could be described as "lusting after power" Grin I live in a modest semi and like nothing more than curling up on the sofa with a hot chocolate in my dressing gown and slippers. The last thing I'd want is power - much too stressful!

Nixon and Trump are quite different. Nixon felt great shame and his life was effectively ruined by Watergate. Trump? In Nixon's place he'd be saying it was the right thing to do and blaming his agents for being found out.

ThreeLocusts · 05/11/2020 16:49

What on earth makes you say that his kids 'seem alright'? What is alright about Donald Jr.'s big game-hunting trips in Africa? His book and tweets aimed squarely and only at denigrating 'libs'? His dumping his wife for some right-wing journalist?

About Ivanka influence-peddling, taking back-handers from her father's companies, voluntarily marrying a slum landlord, pretending to understand what other caregivers go through b/o lockdown when she is so wildly privileged through no effort of her own?

To me they all look like bloody awful people.

workhomesleeprepeat · 05/11/2020 16:59

Wow OP, I can’t say I understand your position - is your stance the definition of being too nice?

Trump may not be Hitler, but his inaction and denial of the danger of Covid has likely killed many Americans. He’s a pretty open racist, and he’s sexually assaulted a number of women!

Please tell me you’re not a judge or a cop or someone who decides whether people get in trouble or not Grin

People aren't allowed differing views on Trump on MN. Haven't you read the rule book OP Grin

SpongeWorthy · 05/11/2020 17:06

@tartanti

If he has made the 'grab 'em by the pussy' comment when about to be alone in, say, an elevator with you or your daughter, would you still feel sorry for him?

I think often putting ourselves in the position of people directly affected by someone's actions is a way of more deeply considering our response to them.

user1471565182 · 05/11/2020 17:08

derxa- Trump increased troop numbers by thousands in the middle east and something like a 70% increase in drone attacks. Are you also forgetting he attacked a neutral countries general on very shakey ground (Iraq) and nearly started a war with Iran. Then theres his pushing towards conflict with China who were 4 years ago suprisingly close to the US and the West. And his fucking about provoking North Korea. And him being directly responsible for Turkeys warmongering in Kurdistan. And his exclusive use of the strongest none nuclear bombs ever in Afghanistan. And his destabilisation of Israel/Palestine

Come on now - where did I say she couldn’t have a different opinion? I just said I didn’t get it Wink

The big difference between Trump and Hitler is that Trump doesn't have expansionist ambitions; he hasn't invaded Canada or Central and Latin America. He isn't expansionist in any way; in fact he's more isolationist by nature and speaks of war veterans as 'losers'.

I'm no Trump fan; I can't stand the guy and think he's a despicable human being, and I hope he'll be booted out of office. But please let's not get carried away, he isn't looking to start World War III.

Mittens030869 · 05/11/2020 17:16

@user1471565182

Yes, that's true. But he seems to be more bothered about closing the US's borders, with the building of the wall between the US and Mexico.

A lot of what he says is just bluster, to make him look tough on Twitter and please his fans.

KaptainKaveman · 05/11/2020 17:22

He might not be out to start WW3 but he's done more to push the US towards another civil war than anyone else. I fully believe he aims to destabilise (and has already done so) the US. Divide and Rule. Why? for power's sake and nothing else. That's the mark of a megalomaniac.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 05/11/2020 17:26

About 300 Mexican families are still separated from their kids several years on. That's tiny toddlers taken away from their families and kept in pens like dogs.

There's a place waiting in hell for that man.

tartanti · 05/11/2020 17:29

I retract my comment that Trump’s kids seem alright - I didn’t know this and it’s horrible Sad

What about this?

EL8888 · 05/11/2020 17:39

Totally unreasonable. He’s a class a prick with a major attitude problem

Kidneybingo · 05/11/2020 17:41

Plus his stance on climate change which affects us all, not just the US.

longwayoff · 05/11/2020 17:50

He really is beyond redemption. Full of hubris but the gods will have their way. Nemesis is hurtling towards him. Good.

Ok, I refuse to engage any further when posters like this arrive, so I’m hiding the thread now. Thanks for the discussion all and have a nice day! smile

OP, you could just report those comments, they will 100% be deleted by MNHQ. Instead you’re using this as an excuse to leave the thread just when the questions on racism are increasing.

Hitler did not start out killing jews. But he started somewhere and with the 'right' people as in the people who r evil as well surrounding trump u have the separation of children and babies only stopped as a judge made it unlawful. He would have carried on. More families would have been riped apart. It was quoted one gaurd told the mother of a child he wad going for a shower. When really he was going to he taken away from her. This was said in Hitler's concentration camps. Sickening.
Duggeehugs82 · 05/11/2020 18:03

I would like to say i dont think trump personally will or would have started killing Mexican people at the boarder. But i still think u can be outraged at both him and hitler , trump doesnt get a free pass because hes not as evil. Or was more evil to more people.

Mittens030869 · 05/11/2020 18:20

What Trump has been doing is sickening and completely wrong, and he needs to go. But comparing him to Hitler is overstating the case and will probably give further credence to his supporters' claims that he's being victimised, and fraudulently deprived of being re-elected.

Let's just focus on the issue at hand.
