AIBU to feel upset by what I’m hearing?

Sorry another covid related question.
People have probably had enough of this subject but just after opinions and thoughts really as finding it difficult to be biased.
My cousin died of covid aged 52 and had no other health issues, was fit and ate healthily.
Also, bro in law has covid and has been really poorly and in hospital (he’s 33 and again has no health issues).
I work in a very small company and a lot of my colleagues have been chatting about their kids going out although they’re currently under tier 2.
They’ve said their kids ranging from 18-25 have still been meeting friends and we’re talking about how all the young ones have been getting around the tier 2 rules by getting fake student ID cards made with same address on so looks like they all live together.
AIBU to think this is selfish and part of the reason we are going in lockdown tomorrow?
I don’t understand it’s difficult for young people (only 31 myself) and mental health is important but these live at home with their parents so aren’t living alone.
Their parents don’t see anything wrong with what they’re doing but I just feel it’s irresponsible personally.

Also, 18-25 year olds that you seem to be so damn hateful of are grown adults who don't need their adults permission to go out with their friends - so not entirely sure why you think their parents can do anything about it.

Capamile · 04/11/2020 20:11

No, I’m really not on here to bash students. I presumed student cards as my colleagues said fake ID.
I was seriously hearing this in the office today.
I don’t mean to bash anybody as have an 18 year old nephew. Just was shocked at what I heard.

My god, did you read the OP? Her cousin has died from it and BIL in hospital?? Such a complete lack of compassion

PawPrincess · 04/11/2020 20:12

Agreed. Shit parenting. Parenting doesn't stop when they get to 18!

Capamile · 04/11/2020 20:13

There is no need to be nasty saying to ‘give my head a wobble’. When you’ve lost a relative, you do feel upset hearing people are finding loopholes to break the tier 2 rules...

I am sorry you have had such a distressing time OP, and that people are being insensitive at work.

It’s spreading because there are so many workplaces with no real social distancing possible and because of rule breaking.

I think they are irresponsible. I hate the whole attitude of 'it is very unlikely to kill me so I don't care about spreading it'

I agree entirely you are not being unreasonable. So sorry your family have been impacted. People can be so selfish and need instant gratification all the time. I can only presume it’s a lack of intellect meaning they can’t bring themselves to act with a social conscience or just put their plans on hold until the virus has subsided.

sausagedoglove · 04/11/2020 20:17

I'm early 30s, married with DC, following all the rules.

But if I was 19 and single during another lockdown, I'd probably be flouting the rules Blush I think you forget what it's like to be that age OP! I'm not saying it's ok, but I'm saying I understand.

purplecorkheart · 04/11/2020 20:18

I assume when they say fake ids they mean id cards from Halls of Residence.

DrEllie · 04/11/2020 20:20

I have an 18 year old and i teach this age group so I really feel for what they are going through. All the YP I know have been very consciousness and aware of the risks to their grandparents etc. The people 'bragging' about their relatives faking IDs etc are very thoughtless

Souldyurr · 04/11/2020 20:20

@purplecorkheart

I assume when they say fake ids they mean id cards from Halls of Residence.
Given that around 2% of 18-25 year olds live in halls of residence, this is pretty unlikely.
Lurkingforawhile · 04/11/2020 20:20

I'm sorry about your family OP, that must be awful. Fwiw I think they are going out together but it's unlikely the places they go even ask for ID. I've heard about some bars / pubs where they have been breaking the rules repeatedly.

You appear to be a troll Souldyurr
I work in a small company of 12 people
Two colleagues were talking
1 male colleague has a daughter who’s 18
Another colleague has a son who’s 23 and a daughter who’s 21.
I did hear this today whatever you believe and found it shocking.
I don’t bash anybody. As I say my nephew is 18 but I was surprised what length their kids and their kids friends are going to when people like my cousin have died and brother in law is in hospital.
I don’t know what sort of fake ID it was. I presumed student ID but maybe wrong.
Why are you being so nasty by the way?

OP posts:
Souldyurr · 04/11/2020 20:24

@Cheeseandlobster I did read the thread - I was the first person to comment. OP may or may not have heard one person saying one thing and has decided to blame an entire group for something that is, factually speaking, not their fault. If I said "my black colleague is breaking the rules therefore black people are to blame" no one would even remotely accept that behaviour because it's horrifically discriminatory and nasty. OP is no different - there's nothing to support what she's saying and it's a really nasty post blaming a group who have lost a hell of a lot during Covid to protect others.

Whatyoucanandcantdo · 04/11/2020 20:26

Souldyurr you're breathtakingly uncompassionate you really are

So, you overheard (and have already mis-communicated and assumed) one conversation between two people? Most 21 year olds and most 23 year olds aren't students anyway. And you then made up your own assumptions based on the conversation you overheard and decided to blame millions of people in the UK for other people dying? How do you honestly think that's acceptable? I work as a teacher and there are at least three colleague in my department over 55 who never wear their facemasks - by your logic, people over 55 are entirely to blame.

Everyone has lost someone due to Covid - it doesn't give anyone the right to discriminate or incite hatred against a group.
Babyroobs · 04/11/2020 20:28

I have a 19 year old son who has still been going out quite a bit and I've asked him not to, especially as my dh ( his dad) is at risk and severely asthmatic. It's hard when they ignore you anyway. I'm sorry for your losses op.
