I’ve never been woo, but there’s things happening that I just can’t explain. Lived here many years, no bumps in the night. But the last few weeks there’s been a few things that make no sense. I had a cupboard open and a huge box just fell from the top shelf all the way out. It’s was fully on the shelf and it just threw itself out and smashed. In front of me. Other things have fallen off shelves which I just thought was usual things falling. Two clocks stopped on the same day. Things have gone missing. I don’t know how it could just throw itself out. Nothing was behind it or anything. I’m a bit spooked. The closest I ever have got to woo is I’ve seen a few episodes of ghost whisperer! There’s a local paranormal investigator that comes out for free. Am I being daft ?

If I ever win the lottery I will absolutely set up a high tech 'haunted house' with hidden speakers and all manner of spectacularly realistic effects. It would be amazing to invite a ghost hunter round and see how quickly they filled their pants and shot out the front door. 🤭

Tworoundsofwaterplease · 05/11/2020 03:54

If I had neofascist seen it fall I would have assumed it was a joke.

Neofascists being present explains everything.

Is your DD going through puberty or could she be at the onset.
That can cause Paranormal activity. I remember a bloke telling me they had a Poltergeist when his son was going through puberty. It stopped as soon as he came out of it. He was very level headed and certainly not the type to make things up, well why would he. Its not like I work for the DM and was gonna pay him thousands for his story.

CherryRipe1 · 05/11/2020 05:00

Had a conversation with a man of the cloth once who said he'd experienced and witnessed some extremely strange phenomenon in his time and although he wouldn't elaborate or confirm excorsisms, he said he'd helped the victims with prayers.

The recent thread confirmed that Birdie Friend was alive and tweeting so perhaps ask the OP on that thread to ask Birdie Friend what is going on?

combatbarbie · 05/11/2020 14:17

I believe you OP. I would get some sage smudge sticks, can get them from amazon. See if that helps. We live in a former vicarage that is over 200yrs old.

We have had numerous noises and things go missing. The scariest was hearing loud footsteps on the wooden floors downstairs, we all heard it, even my non woo husband. I have a few friends who are woo, they all say its a grumpy old man. Now that we've been here a while, the incidents have lessened, I'm hoping it's because he knows we mean no harm and just want to fill the house with love and laughter. The dining room still gets ice cold from time to time.

Iamthewombat · 05/11/2020 14:32

Why would this 200 year old grumpy old man be pacified by your ‘filling the house with love and laughter’? I’d have thought that would make him even more grumpy.

If he can make the dining room ice cold, ask him whether he can heat the place up. You will save a fortune on utilities.

Why is he even occupying your 200 year old vicarage? Was he a vicar? If so, why hasn’t he gone to heaven? Do ask him and report back. Or get one of your silly ‘friends who are woo’ to ask.?

Iamthewombat · 05/11/2020 14:35

As for banishing grumpy ghosts with stuff you can buy on Amazon! Proof that people really will believe anything.

I think OP mentioned her daughter is at sixth form college so she should be through puberty by now.

I work with a guy who saw the ghost of a dead child, she was badly burnt. He saw her a few times over the period of about five years

He found out that his apartment block was built on the site of a former railway line and there was a crash resulting in a fire and people died

The thing is, I've worked with him for years now and he isn't the type of person to joke. When he told me he was very serious. I have an open mind but have never seen anything

Strange how this would just start after years of nothing OP. Some ppl say things start after renovating a property

‘Absolutely no evidence of rats’ ah right, must be ghosts then! All of that evidence... of... ghosts...?

Placebo, innit. If something makes a person feel uneasy, and doing something makes them feel better, then I have no problem with that.
combatbarbie · 05/11/2020 15:43

@Iamtjewombat how bloody rude are you. Just because you don't believe there is no need to mock others.

Spirits often don't like new occupants, they make themselves known. My house has been sat going to rack and ruin for years. He is happy that the house is being used for its purpose, to be a family home. Coincidentally up until the late 90s, all the occupants we have managed to traced were Foster carers.

Iamthewombat · 05/11/2020 15:53

So anybody who doesn’t subscribe to your ghost nonsense is ‘bloody rude’, are they? Hahahaha.

user1471538283 · 05/11/2020 16:12

If it will give you comfort do it. I think we had odd things in one of our houses but it stopped by itself. A friend had someone out to bless the house because she kept seeing things

combatbarbie · 05/11/2020 16:16

@Iamawombat no, just the fuck wits like you that can't just scroll on by if they don't believe in the paranormal.

katy1213 · 05/11/2020 16:22

Bound to be a poltergeist - as will be confirmed by any investigator specialising in parting fools from their money!

Sheogorath · 05/11/2020 17:58

The OP asks if she's being unreasonable. People are allowed to post if they think she is.

Girlsblouse17 · 05/11/2020 18:06

Could you set up a couple of cctv cameras to keep an eye on things?

nevermorelenore · 05/11/2020 18:31

I remember there was a spooky Reddit thread years ago where someone was finding random post-it notes around their home. They'd set up a camera, but the footage from overnight was deleted and removed from the recycling bin.

It turned out the guy had a carbon monoxide leak that had been making him do really crazy stuff without remembering. So, err, make sure you don't have a gas leak.

SleepOhHowIMissYou · 05/11/2020 19:33

Buy more mustard. Also buy some sage incense (or 'smudging' sticks if you can get them) and burn them in the areas you're concerned about.

Some religions believe that this cleans the house. If you're worried enough to believe in spirits and bad energy then you may as well buy into the whole thing (even the placebo affect of it if you're not invested can make you feel better because at least you've taken some sort of action).

duffeldaisy · 05/11/2020 19:48

We do get mini earthquakes in the U.K., or you might be having a bit of subsidence. If you think of a
Newton’s cradle, the balls can be hit at one end, but only one ball flies out. so it might be something weird like that with the box?

There’s usually a very boring answer to all weird happenings - some kind of earth movement or a cat or just weird balance within the box.

Iamthewombat · 05/11/2020 22:56

just the fuck wits like you that can't just scroll on by if they don't believe in the paranormal.

There you go again, filling the thread with ‘love and laughter’.

Here’s the thing I love: the suggestion that anyone who does not believe in the paranormal, or who challenges the utter bollocks churned out by ghost fanciers, is ‘a fuck wit’.

Charmed I'm sure. If I'm wrong and there are ghosts I hope they aren't all so mean spirited :)
