To be considering getting a paranormal investigator in.

I’ve never been woo, but there’s things happening that I just can’t explain. Lived here many years, no bumps in the night. But the last few weeks there’s been a few things that make no sense. I had a cupboard open and a huge box just fell from the top shelf all the way out. It’s was fully on the shelf and it just threw itself out and smashed. In front of me. Other things have fallen off shelves which I just thought was usual things falling. Two clocks stopped on the same day. Things have gone missing. I don’t know how it could just throw itself out. Nothing was behind it or anything. I’m a bit spooked. The closest I ever have got to woo is I’ve seen a few episodes of ghost whisperer! There’s a local paranormal investigator that comes out for free. Am I being daft ?

A mystery. Nothing sinister. Don’t let your imagination run away with you!

CounsellorTroi · 04/11/2020 14:37

@Cosmos45

I am not a woo person at all and have had some strange happenings in my house. It is 500 years old. I have had glasses throwing themselves out of a cupboard (a bit like your box) and also a glass candlestick shattering into smithereens.. however, I don't believe in ghosts and assume there has to be an explanation for it as my house has always felt very friendly, cosy and welcoming.
There are a number of boring and mundane explanations for spontaneous glass breakage. Often due to stuff getting trapped within it during the manufacturing process and expanding until the glass can't take it any more.

Very sure about the rats, have bait boxes outside ( as you have to in the country) and no signs. And the cats weren’t interested in the cupboard. And rats would go for the bottom of the food cupboard not the top shelf of candles.

But if the new tin of mustard vanishes I’m coming back here to report! 😂

CounsellorTroi · 04/11/2020 14:41

Is the cupboard on an outside wall? Could a squirrel have got inside somehow?

Elizaaa · 04/11/2020 14:43

Just get the paranormal investigators in. See what they say.

Then ask any spirits to leave and smudge the house.

Job done.

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 04/11/2020 14:43

@Butterer

Ooh!! I have a missing tin of mustard too!

I live alone and have checked and double checked my cupboards...

Who knew the spirit world had a rung for Coleman's? Grin

Me too! I think the problem may well be the mustard!

Invite the investigator if you fancy a laugh, but if you can then I'd wait until after the pandemic is over. Writing stuff down as it happens might help to show that there is less of a pattern than you think.

Graciebobcat · 04/11/2020 14:44

Sometimes things appear to fall out or fall over "on their own" as they have been imperceptibly tipping over really slowly. The box could have been very slightly off balance and tipping for ages until the centre of gravity shifted and it fell out of the cupboard dramatically.

Lifeisabeach09 · 04/11/2020 14:44

@flaviaritt

Yeah, a ghost isn’t going to take the mustard, is it?
What would a ghost take? Grin
Mum198000 · 04/11/2020 14:45

No not on outside wall. And nothing was there. No squeaking or further noise. Hadn’t touched the box in months since the last summer birthday. I must have not pushed it back right but I really think I should have noticed.

OP posts:
Mum198000 · 04/11/2020 14:46

Yes what would a ghost take? 🤣

OP posts:
flaviaritt · 04/11/2020 14:47

What would a ghost take?

Hmm. In the stories, significant jewellery, diaries, miniature portraits of much-coveted ladies. Not mustard.

riotlady · 04/11/2020 14:48

I would get a priest in to bless the house, tbh. If there aren’t ghosts, the paranormal investigator is still probably going to tell you there are. And if there IS a ghost, the paranormal investigator isn’t necessarily going to get rid of it, whereas at least getting the house blessed might.

Mum198000 · 04/11/2020 14:58

Do priests really do that? Can’t imagine calling a church and having that conversation. Isn’t that just in movies?

OP posts:
NRatched · 04/11/2020 14:59

Being a child, but was searching to see if mustard was a common thing for ghosts to steal and

Found that funnier than I should have Blush

Pollynextdoor · 04/11/2020 15:01

Yes priests do come out to bless houses and even cars. Bonkers I know!

Fluffybutter · 04/11/2020 15:02

@Mum198000

Yes what would a ghost take? 🤣
Well duh.. ketchup obviously. I thought everyone knew that ?
Mum198000 · 04/11/2020 15:03

Ghost mustard 👻🤣

Iamthewombat · 04/11/2020 15:15

Your daughter visits mediums (media??) and is obsessed with the spirit world and paranormal investigators, you say?

Who could be behind the strangely mundane psychic phenomena you have experienced? Who?? It is a genuine mystery. Perhaps the priest will have some ideas. As soon as he has recovered from his laughing fit.

ladybee28 · 04/11/2020 15:17

@GeorgiaMcGraw

Could it be an angry mouse trying to get to the cereal and just succeedingvin shoving it off? Clocks could be coincidence. Maybe keep a bit of a log of things going on for a while, gather more data, so to speak.
An angry mouse 😂 I LOVE this mental image!

Tiny little rodent spitting and storming his way along the shelf...

"These f&%*ing boxes...."

Mum198000 · 04/11/2020 15:17

I just can’t see how she pulled the box down without it showing. And to be honest I don’t think she could be bothered as that would mean moving!

OP posts:
LordLancington · 04/11/2020 15:22

If it was something that had vibrated it out then it did it very quickly as the cupboard had only been open about 10 minutes.

This is why sex toys should be kept under the bed.

Mum198000 · 04/11/2020 15:27

Pukkatea · 04/11/2020 15:36

Don't get a paranormal investigator in if you don't want to be spooked. I lived with a girl whose mum was one and she gleefully walked around our flat declaring that there were creepy dead girls and evil old women and malicious spirits in every room. Someone whose job is to look for ghosts is going to find ghosts, they aren't going to tell you you might have rats are they?

Mum198000 · 04/11/2020 15:58

Thanks that’s helpful. I don’t wAnt to be scared. I’m going to buy new mustard and forget it all!
