To be considering getting a paranormal investigator in.

I’ve never been woo, but there’s things happening that I just can’t explain. Lived here many years, no bumps in the night. But the last few weeks there’s been a few things that make no sense. I had a cupboard open and a huge box just fell from the top shelf all the way out. It’s was fully on the shelf and it just threw itself out and smashed. In front of me. Other things have fallen off shelves which I just thought was usual things falling. Two clocks stopped on the same day. Things have gone missing. I don’t know how it could just throw itself out. Nothing was behind it or anything. I’m a bit spooked. The closest I ever have got to woo is I’ve seen a few episodes of ghost whisperer! There’s a local paranormal investigator that comes out for free. Am I being daft ?

Yeah, a ghost isn’t going to take the mustard, is it?

Mum198000 · 04/11/2020 14:04

Surely if there’s nothing they would say? Or do you think they always find something? Maybe I’m being a bit naive.

Those pesky kids!! Shakes fist!

ChocoholicMama · 04/11/2020 14:04

If you're hoping for a logical explanation then don't get a paranormal investigator out. I guarantee they will find paranormal activity. I'm sure there will be some follow up (not free) visits too. Did you check if the shelf is secure, maybe it tilted a bit and the box fell. Maybe you have a rat that decided to play a prank on you. What was in the box--maybe a heavier thing fell to the front when you opened the cupboard and it was enough to knock it forwards, especially if the shelf isn't level. All the other things are normal... We all lose stuff and have no explanation for where it went or who put it somewhere. Clocks are just a coincidence and not unusual for batteries to be replaced at the same time so battery lifespan could be similar.

Mum198000 · 04/11/2020 14:05

It’s a weird thing for anyone to take! If it was a pack of biscuits then I wouldn’t need to have the mystery gang in to know who ate those! Looking at you kids, but mustard?

YABU. Ghosts don’t exist. You won’t get a logical explanation from a “paranormal investigator” because they’re con artists; they take your money and make shit up.

NRatched · 04/11/2020 14:05

I’m hoping for a logical explanation.

You get that from a "paranormal investigator"

Grin

I think you just need to write the box thing off as one of those things really. It happens sometimes. There doesn't seem to be an explanation for it, but there will be one. I have had a plate randomly fall off the drainer, when the washer was not on and there was no movement. Eventually I convinced myself it was some freak earth tremor or something, though I am sure there was a better explanation. You will drive yourself crazy focussing on it so much.

Hence my saying, if you think it might make you feel better, go for the investigator. If its stuck in your head and isn;t going, then it might sort that somewhat. Generally though, woo investigators will be just out to scam whatever they can IMO.

flaviaritt · 04/11/2020 14:05

But ghosts aren’t known to be fans of mustard, are they?

Mum198000 · 04/11/2020 14:06

I was thinking they would say nothing was there and I could relax. But yes I guess they will find something. I’m not paying either way!

ChocoholicMama · 04/11/2020 14:06

On the other hand, if you do have a ghost, at least you won't be bored in lockdown...

Mum198000 · 04/11/2020 14:07

Lol no I won’t! Who you gonna call?

@Mum198000

Weird things. A box of Colman’s English mustard ffs! Was on the shelf then not. Not something the kids would use. Nobody knows anything about it. I asked. Other equally random things.
Our house has a black hole.

I at one stage genuinely thought someone was trying to make me think I was going mad. I knew exactly where things were, until the second I needed them, at which point they disappeared off the face of the earth, I could find them nowhere after searching for ages. Then a few days later, they appeared in totally random places (often under DSDs bed Hmm ). This happened with food, letters, socks, my purse, plates, forks..and so on!

It happens far too often. I went through a period of suspecting DH was doing it to freak me out, but its happened to him with a few things too now.

Really weird. So many 'unexplained things' in our house. I can see why some find it quite comforting to believe in woo stuff, it at least explains it all somewhat Grin

Mum198000 · 04/11/2020 14:09

My teen daughter is very into woo and it was her that saw the paranormal investigator on fb and suggested it. But yes I guess they will always find something. I was giving them too much credit.

I’m annoyed I have to buy a whole tin of the damn mustard. It’s not like I will use it much but when you want it you want it!

OP posts:
flaviaritt · 04/11/2020 14:11

Explanations of disappearance of mustard:

  • you threw it out and forgot
  • someone else finished it and forgot
  • someone else threw it out and preferred not to tell you to wind you up
  • it fell down the back of something
  • it’s still there and you just didn’t check properly

Ghosts? No.

You should bring her back down to reality so she doesn’t have a lifetime of being conned by these people.
Mum198000 · 04/11/2020 14:12

I’m glad it’s not just me then. I don’t think I would have taken any notice of the rest of the damn box hadn't fell. I suppose the. I’m hyper sensitive to stuff.

Get the paranormal investigator in!

I believe I've seen a ghost. It wasn't scary at all. One min it was there and the next it wasn't. I had to do a double take.

Mum198000 · 04/11/2020 14:12

I bet the second I buy a new one it will turn up!

OP posts:
Mum198000 · 04/11/2020 14:14

I stopped trying to tell her anything as the more I say the more she does the opposite. I’m guessing it’s a phase of being a bit woo. She’s at 6th form so not little.

Is it possible that your teenage daughter is a bit bored and fancies some excitement, including telling her mates that your house is so haunted that you needed to call in the paranormal investigators? So much so that she might have hidden the flipping mustard?

Mum198000 · 04/11/2020 14:17

It’s not really the mustard that’s making methi k woo. It was the box and though she was there she wasn’t near it when it went. If I had neofascist seen it fall I would have assumed it was a joke.

We used to have a weird thing happen .
For years on and off we kept finding blue wet dots on our dinner plates when we’d get them out of the cupboard,,very similar to blue food colouring which we didn’t have.
Never did work it out as we always checked our hands and the insides of the cupboard and nothing .. just the liquid dots on the plates .
Just one of those weird mysteries of life !
Anyway , I’d be abit sceptical of any “paranormal” investigator as I just assume they’re all charlatans.
