How much do you care who wins the US election?

Background: UK citizen here, residing in the UK and generally don't trust politicians.

I may be weird but I don't really care that much who wins the US election. AIBU? Everyone seems to be obsessed.

I feel for the Americans if they get stuck with Trump for another 4 years, however that problem feels so remote from my day to day reality and worries here in the UK. And what do I know about Biden? Absolutely nothing other than he seems like a nice old man.

So do you care? If so, why?

(Obviously if you have strong connection to the US either by citizenship, family or business, I assume you will care. This question is mainly for those of us who don't).

I'm sorry you can't see what Trump is OP. Unfortunately we may have another four years to discern the as yet undisclosed aspects of his personality and beliefs. I am not expecting it to be pleasurable, or useful, in any way.

Hyperion100 · 04/11/2020 15:08

Trump wants the NHS to pay a LOT more for US made drugs and medications from next year.

Fluffybutter · 04/11/2020 15:10

We care in this house .
Fuck, trump!
(Not literally , I wouldn’t wish that on anyone but Melania..)

CrunchyNutNC · 04/11/2020 15:14

I care alot. The attitude of the next US government will directly impact our likelihood of having a breakdown of peace on the island of Ireland.

LordLancington · 04/11/2020 15:16

I think I'd honestly rather vote for Arnold Schwarzenegger than either of the current two.

colouringindoors · 04/11/2020 21:47

I think Arnie would be a significant improvement Grin He's certainly much, much more on the ball re climate change.

LaurieFairyCake · 04/11/2020 21:55

Very much

It would just be horrific for the world during a pandemic if there were 4 more years of Trump

LaurieFairyCake · 04/11/2020 21:57

In case there's anyone not aware Trump HAS stopped paying the WHO for their contribution

During a pandemic !

People care, but really there’s no reason to care. Other than the hyperbole, rhetoric and identity politics, there is no practical difference between the policies. Who really believes that Biden would do anything differently with a metrical impact.

Runningdownthathill · 04/11/2020 22:11

I care desperately. The President of the US is incredibly powerful on the world stage. Having a madman in charge is frankly terrifying. It affects us all.

LaurieFairyCake · 04/11/2020 22:15

That's not true Confused

Trump has declared NO policies for this election - none, deliberately!

Biden has come out with a proper manifesto and he's said he will give the WHO the money they owe them

Trump pulled out the Paris climate accord TODAY

Biden will get back in

afrikat · 04/11/2020 22:19

I care, alot. For many reasons but my main one is climate change related

Roominmyhouse · 04/11/2020 22:22

I care a lot! Trump is a danger to the world. He’s a hideous human being who is doing nothing but causing division. If he wins the world has to deal with him for 4 more years and with Brexit looming he’ll have way too much say in our future trade, the NHS and food standards.

Stripesnomore · 04/11/2020 22:27

They are both awful. It doesn’t matter much which one gets in.

lljkk · 04/11/2020 22:28

I care because A degraded USA (degraded civil service, foreign policy, inequities, openly corrupt govt) is bad for the world.

Yourpartjewishfriend · 04/11/2020 22:34

I care who wins. Specifically I care about NATO, and the plight of immigrants. I also was saddened to hear ths US is out of the Paris agreement. If Biden gets in he will rejoin... let's hope he does for the sake of our planet.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 04/11/2020 22:34

Trump is a maniac - and dangerous for him to be in a position of power.
Not massively keen on Biden, but hoping he wins and for some reason has to take a backseat pretty quickly and Kamala Harris comes to the fore.

HannahStern · 04/11/2020 22:39

You are clearly invincible, OP. It's really great that you don't need to be concerned about the consequences of a US Trade deal and that it won't matter to you if NHS will no longer be able negotiate the price of medicine down, resulting in a significant increase in costs for both patients and hospitals in the coming years.

How much do you care who wins the US election?
Cocopogo · 04/11/2020 22:40

I don’t care at all. In uk.

Miljea · 04/11/2020 23:02

I care because I don't want my un-labelled chicken to be American chlorine washed.

Oh, and for the POTUS to be a climate-change denier.

SarahAndQuack · 04/11/2020 23:05

I care. A lot of my friends are in the US. I know people who are genuinely scared for their lives and their freedoms. I don't think people realise how day-to-day terrifying it is and how easily people die. I also care about the influence of the US. The more the US goes to the far right, the more it legitimises the far right here. It scares me.

bravousa · 04/11/2020 23:06

The chicken argument is not an issue, we will always have a choice to buy local and organic birds

Why does anyone think BoJo is twiddling his thumbs and not meeting the Public's Gaze re Brexit, right now?

Because he needs to know what tack to take based on who the POTUS is.

Trump? How to make us becoming a minor US state palatable to 'Brexit Little Englanders'?

Biden, how to square a difficult circle. While still having to big up chlorinated chicken?

This is vital to us.

Kljnmw3459 · 04/11/2020 23:10

It's entertaining but I'm more interested in the combined results of House/senate/president.
