US Elections - Trump or Biden, who will win?

655 replies

JustSaying101 · 03/11/2020 19:55

Intrigued to see who everyone thinks will win the current US presidential elections? I wouldn't personally vote for Trump, but I think he will manage to win another term. What do you think?

YABU = Trump will win
YANBU = Biden will win

If Biden wins the first three he doesn't need PA. Would be good if he did win them all though.

wowfudge · 05/11/2020 16:45

@WeWantTheFinestWines

Anyone but Trump, therefore I want Biden to win (and I think he will - just), although I don't have much time for him. But - he's old and if he becomes unable to govern, we get Kamala Harris! I can get excited about her!

Also, always Democrat over Republican. Democrats are already not very left wing, and certainly not socialists. Republicans are very right wing.

You've voiced my thoughts on Kamala Harris.
the80sweregreat · 05/11/2020 16:45

@rosie1959

By the time they have finished counting it will be time for another election
Made me lol! It feels like it's dragged on forever and it only Thursday.
Dongdingdong · 05/11/2020 16:46

Trump margin now down to 14,765 in Georgia. But I'm not sure how many votes are left to count!

safariboot · 05/11/2020 16:50

@Puzzledandpissedoff

Georgia ... postal votes can still come in tomorrow, be valid and be counted

Same with Pennsylvania I believe, and probably others as well

I confess it's beyond me why they can't just say votes have to be in by election day and be done with it. There's got to be a cut-off somewhere and if people can't organise themselves to post or deliver the blasted things in good time there's probably no helping them

After all you'd need to have been living on Mars not to know the date was coming up ...

Because the postal system is outside the voter's control. Remember, Trump attempted to cut the postal service's funding which was quite obviously intended to disrupt the election, and it was only public and political opposition that forced Trump to not make such cuts.

The previous law was that postal votes had to arrive by election day, but the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled that votes mailed by election day and arriving by the Friday will be counted. The Republican Party is seeking to overturn this in federal court. Other stats may have different laws.

wowfudge · 05/11/2020 16:54

It's now 0.3% between Trump and Biden in Georgia - it's narrowed.

Dongdingdong · 05/11/2020 16:55

Are Georgia still on track to declare in five minutes time?

PullTheBricksDown · 05/11/2020 17:00
The OP asked who will win the election
Well I'm confident in saying whatever happens it will be some elderly halfwit with no idea what he is doing

Sounds about right to me

Many of us already realise Trump's a megalomaniac, but while Biden may once have known what he's doing that's not necessarily still the case ... not when he confuses his granddaughter for his dead son:

videos.dailymail.co.uk/video/mol/2020/11/03/7998349315561900277/640x360_MP4_7998349315561900277.mp4
Yeah, or we could have the guy who shares gems of clear thinking like this in charge:

Barron Trump you know he had the corona 19, the China virus. It's got 20 different names, but to me Corona means Italy

Difference is Biden would at least listen to other people. Trump is not right in the head AND won't listen to anyone who doesn't agree with his bizarre ramblings. So much more dangerous.

Kljnmw3459 · 05/11/2020 17:04

It always takes me by surprise when I'm reminded that Democrats are closer to conservatives here in the uk. Conservatives must seem like socialists for many Americans!

wowfudge · 05/11/2020 17:04

CNN are in Clark County, Nevada at the moment.

KenAdams · 05/11/2020 17:05

12pm in Nevada and no results as promised yet. What are they doing?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/11/2020 17:07

the postal system is outside the voter's control

I know, safariboot - also that the regs in Pennsylvania were changed - but it shouldn't be that difficult to get a request for a postal vote in good and early and send it back in a timely manner. And if states which send out postal votes automatically left it rather late then get it sorted properly next time

It's really not rocket science ...

wowfudge · 05/11/2020 17:10

Biden's lead in Nevada has extended. Still not a huge amount in it - something like 12,000 votes in it.

the80sweregreat · 05/11/2020 17:10

I thought the Democrats were more like our own Labour Party is here?

WitchesSpelleas · 05/11/2020 17:13

@the80sweregreat

I thought the Democrats were more like our own Labour Party is here?
Happy to be corrected, but my understanding is that both parties are much further to the right than their UK equivalents.
the80sweregreat · 05/11/2020 17:15

Gosh, my knowledge of American politics really is scant!

WitchesSpelleas · 05/11/2020 17:18

You can learn a lot from the American posters on here!

WeWantTheFinestWines · 05/11/2020 17:28

I'm not American or English but lived in both places, I read a lot about American politics and spoke to someone who worked on Obama's campaign who came back saying he'd basically worked for a Tory!

America is generally about the individual, small state, capitalism, lower taxes, God and Country and stuff that we in the UK usually associate with the right. Within that, you have an even more right wing version (Republicans) and a version on the left of that spectrum (Democrats).

Anyone to the left of that is often referred to as Communist. I'd say the Democrats might be a bit like the David Cameron in the UK and the Republicans a bit like Nigel Farage. And Trump is off the scale.

I'm happy to be corrected on any of this as I'm no expert.

the80sweregreat · 05/11/2020 17:30

Goodness ; my son is desperate for Trump to go , I think that he has the same ideas about democrats as I have.
A wrong one.

Kljnmw3459 · 05/11/2020 17:31

@WeWantTheFinestWines that's how I've understood it too. But I'm not American so have very little knowledge of how things are there.

Dongdingdong · 05/11/2020 17:34

I’m logging off and coming back later. This constant refreshing of pages, delays and vote margins increasing and decreasing is doing my nut in!

WitchesSpelleas · 05/11/2020 17:36

This was a Trump supporter quoted earlier today, which gives a flavour of how Republicans view even the moderate leftism of the Democrats:

"Donald Trump supporter Eric responded: “You can’t believe that many people voted for Donald Trump. I can’t believe that many people are voting for Joe Biden who is honestly beholden to a lot of far-left revolutionaries and very liberal activists.

“They hate this country, they want to rewrite the history books.”

(BBC)

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/11/2020 18:26

my understanding is that both parties are much further to the right than their UK equivalents

Taken generally you're right, Witches

Reading their major newspapers can be interesting too. For example in Boston you've got the allegedly right wing Boston Herald (which really is right wing) and the Boston Globe which is supposedly leftish, but from a UK perspective can read like the Daily Mail

wed8pril · 05/11/2020 18:31

His dumbshit supporters are calling on vote counting to be stopped in places where he's ahead, and to continue where he's behind.

Fucking hypocrites.

wowfudge · 05/11/2020 19:24

Trump has tweeted "Stop the COUNT". I'll let you guess what some of the replies have been.
