US Elections - Trump or Biden, who will win?

JustSaying101 · 03/11/2020 19:55

Intrigued to see who everyone thinks will win the current US presidential elections? I wouldn't personally vote for Trump, but I think he will manage to win another term. What do you think?

YABU = Trump will win
YANBU = Biden will win

@wowfudge that poster is clearly a troll. Posting misinformation etc.

wowfudge · 05/11/2020 15:59

Yep - I did say it was Donald!

It's a nail biter though, isn't it?

WitchesSpelleas · 05/11/2020 16:00

From the BBC:

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger just said the state had about 90,000 ballots to go by last night, but by this morning there were just around 25,000 ballots left to be counted.

Speaking to WSB-TV in Atlanta, Raffensperger said: “We should be done no later than noon-time today.” That's 17:00 GMT.

Fulton County, home of Atlanta, is expected to conclude counting in the next hour, he said.

Biden is behind by about 18,000 votes in Georgia, according to the latest estimates.

NotDavidTennant · 05/11/2020 16:01

Unless biden is getting over 65% share. Seems unlikely even for mail ballots.

The majority of the votes still to be counted are in counties that tend to vote Democrat though, so it is not impossible that Biden will pick up 65% or more of the remaining votes.

This is why the partial counts are misleading, as the rate of counting is not happening evenly within each state. Urban areas (which tend to go Democrat) seem to be taking longer to count.

Whitecottoncandy · 05/11/2020 16:03

@wowfudge definitely!! CNN propped up here the past two days in between myself & DH work stations! It’s very close.

Kljnmw3459 · 05/11/2020 16:04

@NotDavidTennant I agree that it is possible but just seems unlikely, it's a big share of votes. 55 seems more doable. We're just going to have to wait and be patient. Why is north Carolina tracker not moving anywhere? Or the others

wowfudge · 05/11/2020 16:08

Urban areas have more voters which is one of the reasons counts take longer - sheer numbers. Couple that with a record turnout and record numbers of mail in ballots due to Covid and it's no surprise it's not quick. It's as quick as it can be to ensure due democratic process is followed.

tobee · 05/11/2020 16:09

God Americans have some great surnames!

Brad Raffensperger!

NotDavidTennant · 05/11/2020 16:09

My impression is that most of the remaining states have stopped giving continuous updates now.

WitchesSpelleas · 05/11/2020 16:12

Brad Raffensperger!

I was just thinking that myself. Brad Raffensperger is a fabulous name!

The OP asked who will win the election.

Well I'm confident in saying whatever happens it will be some elderly halfwit with no idea what he is doing.

safariboot · 05/11/2020 16:15

If you think Biden doesn't know how to do the job of President, then you've swallowed the Trump campaign's lies hook line and sinker. Biden was VP for 8 years. Trump, on the other hand, has been a demonstrably incompetent President for 4.

Dongdingdong · 05/11/2020 16:16

Sky News says that there's still 60,000 votes to count in Georgia, and they're not expected to declare till noon (5pm UK time)

Thanks @Watercoloursky - 45 minutes to go then!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/11/2020 16:18

Georgia ... postal votes can still come in tomorrow, be valid and be counted

Same with Pennsylvania I believe, and probably others as well

I confess it's beyond me why they can't just say votes have to be in by election day and be done with it. There's got to be a cut-off somewhere and if people can't organise themselves to post or deliver the blasted things in good time there's probably no helping them

After all you'd need to have been living on Mars not to know the date was coming up ...

Indeed. When is the cut-off exactly?

Sounds about right to me

Many of us already realise Trump's a megalomaniac, but while Biden may once have known what he's doing that's not necessarily still the case ... not when he confuses his granddaughter for his dead son:

If I recall correctly a lot of those weren't sent out in time to the voters. You can't send in as a voter what you don't have yet. So that might be a reason.
rosie1959 · 05/11/2020 16:28

By the time they have finished counting it will be time for another election

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/11/2020 16:35

Absolutely - but then I wonder if there's a really effective system in place to differentiate between what was sent out late and what was returned late?

Mittens030869 · 05/11/2020 16:38

We're in the middle of a pandemic, it isn't like normal times. It's a case of doing the best they can under the circumstances.

Plus, seeing as the new President won't be taking office until 20th January, waiting a little bit longer than normal doesn't need to be such a difficult problem to overcome, surely??

wowfudge · 05/11/2020 16:40

You can register to vote right up until polling day in the US. Probably a constitutional right?

Dongdingdong · 05/11/2020 16:41

I don't think I can take much more of this.

titchy · 05/11/2020 16:41

Personally I go by the bookies who have Biden to win Georgia, Nevada, Ariz and Penn. Wink

wowfudge · 05/11/2020 16:43

@Dongdingdong

I don't think I can take much more of this.
I know what you mean and it's not even my country. I'm hoping some sense prevails in the world and someone capable of being a statesman and a leader wins. That's not Trump.
WeWantTheFinestWines · 05/11/2020 16:43

Anyone but Trump, therefore I want Biden to win (and I think he will - just), although I don't have much time for him. But - he's old and if he becomes unable to govern, we get Kamala Harris! I can get excited about her!

Also, always Democrat over Republican. Democrats are already not very left wing, and certainly not socialists. Republicans are very right wing.
