Do you want another lockdown?

YABU - I want a lockdown just like before
YANBU - I don't want to lockdown.
Comment - Any variation on the above.
I'm genuinely curious to see where the majority lie on this - some people will be terrified of losing their jobs and homeschooling again whereas others would love a few more months of WFH or furloughing and extra family time.

Based on what because every time I've been to the shops it's been busy. Most people aren't scared any more

I totally agree with this in my area. Cases are rising here but you would never guess it from shops & restaurants or the way all my friends & acquaintances here are approaching things. The Fear has passed and I really don't think the public health experts have grasped that.

People still complying here but agree mood has changed. Fear worked in March with daily ramping up announced but high numbers have lower impact now.

And people are more desperate financially compared with 1st.

DelilahfromDevon · 31/10/2020 09:38

I don’t want lockdown. If they lock everyone down and cases fall what happens when they un-lockdown? Cases rise again? Do they then lockdown again? Will this happen until a vaccine is available? It’s just not sustainable. Meanwhile suicide, cancer, heart disease etc all increase. But they won’t be attributed to lockdown. And what’s also galling is that retrospectively there will never be any “proof” that lockdown was not the answer because the government will simply say that if they hadn’t don’t it, more people would have died. So effectively the government can do exactly what they like with no repercussions, they’ll simply sail off into the sunset for a lucrative post government career of after dinner speaking.
Rant over.

nancy77 · 31/10/2020 09:44

I was at Borough market, London on Thursday night and although so many restaurants /bars have set up outside space, loads of people were sitting inside small pubs/tapas/oyster bars. I’m pretty sure most were not ‘business’ dinners or from same house holds! The whole street was heaving, buzzing with young professionals working in the area. No SD. It will only get worse as party season approaches. So I think we needed a lockdown.

workhomesleeprepeat · 31/10/2020 09:46

@rashalert well no you didn’t specify the government but get yourself all worked up there then Grin

Am imagining you as one of those Trump types going CHINA VIRUS!!

rashalert · 31/10/2020 09:57

No, I'm not worked up-just correcting your mistake.

I'll call it Braintree Virus if you like but it did come from China. If you know otherwise, please let the WHO know.

Why are you so anxious to pretend it doesn't come from China?

But it is a virus from China and wishing it wasn't doesn't make it so. It's not the first virus to come from China either-Sars and Bird flu to name but two.

That is a fact. The next two next things I'm going to say is speculation. Here they are

I'm quite sure there will be another from China before the decade is out.

They'll bounce back from that too before any other country does.

One more fact-Covid came from China.
One more fact. China did not tell the world until it was too late.
One more fact. China has bounced back. The rest of the world is in shit.

The Chinese government are culpable fuckers. I think that's a fact but is probably better termed an opinion.

Enjoy your day!

What makes us more special than Germany or France?

Where do you want me to start?

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 31/10/2020 10:07

Yes, I think it’s needed. I trust the scientists.

I’d rather people complied with the rules though so that we at least attempt as a collective society to keep numbers down. So many don’t seem to care about others and that makes me fear for the next generation who are witnessing a lot of selfish behaviour currently.

crazyfrogs · 31/10/2020 10:07

@PhilCornwall1

Apparently we're all just meant to sit tight and accept the worst all to save a few thousand or so. I know it's unpopular to say but I honestly don't understand how saving a few thousand lives (at best) is worth destroying the lives of millions.

It is unpopular, but you are right. It's not worth it.

Would it be worth it if it saved your life? What about your family ?
Aragog · 31/10/2020 10:09

The one it looks like we are getting isn't a lockdown so I'm not sure how useful it's going to be to be honest. So much will still be happening as normal, with many households mixing daily.

It won't affect me anyway. I'll be still going into school - providing the GP signs me off as being well enough to return after a month off recovering from Covid and it's complications (most likely picked up at school probably from a symptom free infant school aged child)

I just have to hope that I really do have some immunity now, as the new complications only add to my clinically vulnerable status.

Last time I worked from home as I was clinically vulnerable. School was open to many children and most staff were in teaching daily, but I was at home sorting home learning. This time I will be in school, so lockdown will mean life remains pretty much the same for me.

Yes so many don't care about others but fuck the children. Are you sure it's not you who doesn't care about others?
crazyfrogs · 31/10/2020 10:12

@Sheknowsaboutme

No. But im in one and us pissing off. The rainbow hospital they spent millions on was never used. Now closed. If its that bad, blood well use them and stop sending anyone who has covid to mainstream hospitals.

Look after those Who have to shield and let the rest of us get on with lives and get the economy going again.

They can send them but they aren't properly staffed due to a lack of nurses and doctors due to years of chronic and international underfunding of the nhs,
crazyfrogs · 31/10/2020 10:12

Intentional

YellowBeryl1 · 31/10/2020 10:16

No more lockdowns! Its pointless, the virus just resurges after. All lockdowns do is destroy jobs and mental health.

dindot · 31/10/2020 10:20

No. Lockdowns just kick the can down the road. We urgently need some kind of exit strategy as we can't possibly keep having rolling lockdowns for years while we wait for a vaccine which may never be released as safe and effective anyway.

Dreamylemon · 31/10/2020 10:25

@TrustTheGeneGenie

Natural disaster probably wasn't the right word, but I think we can agree mother nature is giving our arses a kicking at the moment. The countries that have taken this virus seriously have had better outcomes it seems. Trying to ignore it them acting late/ half measures seems to have worse outcomes and that seems to be Boris' s plan

LakieLady · 31/10/2020 10:25

As an aside- some of my clients appear to have taken for granted that I was working 7 days a week, as I took last weekend off and had a complaint Monday morning because a client had sent an e-mail on Saturday and was fucked off I had not responded by 9 am Monday. (Sorry, totally off topic but it IRRITATED me)

Bloody hell, some people. Calls for an auto-reply on your emails, I think, explaining that you work Mon-Fri only.

I'm a benefits adviser and a client complained to my boss because I hadn't replied to a text within 48 hours. My manager pointed out that I was on leave for 2 weeks and had emailed all active clients to let them know this.

LakieLady · 31/10/2020 10:33

Based on what because every time I've been to the shops it's been busy. Most people aren't scared any more

I avoid big shopping centres as much as possible (not because of Covid - I just hate them) and the smaller towns where I shop are still a lot quieter than usual.

I've been wondering if people have realised how much money they used to waste on completely non-essential stuff and have simply stopped.

I disagree! I've bought more non essential stuff because it's the only small joy at the moment.
Noitjustwontdo · 31/10/2020 10:36

Of course I don’t want one, I don’t think anyone does but we need one. The scientists have advised the government to have a circuit breaker for about six weeks now but Boris ignored them. Now it’s too late for a quick circuit break to be effective so lockdown it is. Keeping ‘education settings’ open still is frankly barmy. We need to have a month long cold lockdown like we did before where barely anyone leaves the house.

HitchikersGuide · 31/10/2020 10:40

I don't want another lockdown. We seem to be living in a time of collective madness.

GuyFawkesHadTheRightIdea · 31/10/2020 10:42

No.
