To be surprised that at how awful these dresses are?

I'm not sure awful is the right word or why Facebook would think I might like 'Pencil Me In' or 'Treat Yourself'?

Fuck me, some of you are judgemental miserable bastards!
If you like them, whoo for you. If you don't, shush your cake hole and move along!

Oysterbabe · 31/10/2020 12:07

I think the company have made several sales as a result of this thread so it's worked out well for them over all.

Pangur2 · 31/10/2020 12:11

Jesus Christ, some people are being so rude about people who like prints and bright colours! There’s no fucking need for it. Fair enough if you don’t like the dresses, but to say anyone who likes novelty prints is making up for some sort of character defect is so fucking nasty. (Ditto for those who like minimalist clothes btw...)

Ps @LucillevsLowkee is that a Love Ur Look dress? I love those!

Noideawottodo · 31/10/2020 12:14

I love prints and bright colours. Hate those particular dresses.

ginghamtablecloths · 31/10/2020 12:16

They are so dated and unflattering. They don't even look good on the model who I have to presume is about 6' tall, so no hope for Ms Average. The contrasting belts shorten the whole silhouette and the sticky out skirt accentuates the hips.

However, I know someone who'd love them.

LucillevsLowkee · 31/10/2020 12:18

Pangur2
yes it is you know you stuff! Grin

Pangur2 · 31/10/2020 12:21

@LucillevsLowkee I have so many; I am practically a walking advertisement for her, haha!

BiBabbles · 31/10/2020 12:22

My first thought was Ms Frizzle and the Magic School Bus.

There are a few I'd wear if it was a shirt or skirt (with lovely pockets), I'd like a bit more colour, but I'm rarely a dress person.

BilboBercow · 31/10/2020 12:35

They're exactly what I'd imagine someone wearing with snag tights, IC shoes, cats eye specs and a rockabilly hairstyle. That's not me slating that kind of style, it's just not me.

There are a couple of items I'd probably wear with black tights and a denim jacket but it's mostly too "quirky" for me.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 31/10/2020 12:45

@Iamthewombat

And dullard means unimaginative or boring person actually. Not dim witted.

Wrong. As Vicious Jackdaw pointed out upthread, the meaning of ‘dullard’ has recently had to be expanded to accommodate its common usage.

In other words, because people confused its real meaning - which is dull-witted and stupid, check the etymology- and started to use it to mean ‘boring’, the dictionary definition has had to move on.

It troubles me not one jot that anybody might think that my aversion to these dresses renders me boring, by the way. I’d be more inclined to think that anyone who has to make themselves more interesting by festooning themselves with printed pencils or cats is more likely to suffer from that complaint, but each to her own!

Well I meant dullard in a "dull person" context.

And the clothes I wear complement my personality, not compensate for them.

Seriously WHY does it bother you that people wear these kids of clothes? Stop projecting your insecurities onto others

Iamthewombat · 31/10/2020 12:48

Got them all, have you?

The OP asked, remember? Do you think that nobody should have replied?

Fair enough if you don’t like the dresses, but to say anyone who likes novelty prints is making up for some sort of character defect is so fucking nasty. (Ditto for those who like minimalist clothes btw...)

To be clear, the first salvo in this particular battle was fired by a PP who stated that anyone who didn’t like those dresses was a Dillard/dullard, by which it emerged that she meant ‘boring and lacking in imagination’. Do you think that nobody should have responded to that either? It was an open goal!

The defensiveness shown by the Harkel-style dress aficionados on this thread seems to be the very opposite of ‘imaginative and confident in my clothing choices’.

I haven’t taken offence at anybody’s dislike of my penchant for grey, navy, black and white clothes in sharp cuts and lovely fabrics. Call me boring if you like. Ideally whilst standing next to me in an ill-fitting ‘pencil me in’ dress, with Irregular Choice shoes.

BeTheHokeyMan · 31/10/2020 12:51

I think they are great fun but I wouldn't wear them ( wouldn't have the legs for them Sad ) But I do agree that they are something a quicky cute kindergarten teacher in a hollywood movie would wear

DiscoDown · 31/10/2020 13:10

I quite like them, but I'd look like a fat Jess from New Girl.

Pangur2 · 31/10/2020 13:14

@Iamthewombat I also included the people calling others boring for wearing grey etc, which you well know.

I actually love minimalist clothes too, but they often veer towards masculine shapes, which just don’t suit me. I’d also love to dress like a Sports Goth queuing for Berghain, but once again, it doesn’t suit my figure. 40s and 50s style clothes do, so I wear those instead.

FatimaMunchy · 31/10/2020 13:17

Fifties fashion with a twist.

WonderMoon · 31/10/2020 13:18

They are fun but look like they are for children.
It's a no from me.

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 31/10/2020 13:21

God awful. "Quirky" like Lindybop ones were. It ends up looking like fancy dress.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 31/10/2020 13:27

I’ve ordered 2 for DD!

FairFridaythe13th · 31/10/2020 13:35

Ooohhhhh cool cat shirt...

WingingItSince1973 · 31/10/2020 13:38

I actually like most of them 🤣 But then I'm a bit different ha ha

OddHoleySocks · 31/10/2020 13:39

I wonder if op has just pulled off a genius bit of marketing... 🤔

@OddHoleySocks my thoughts too 🤣🤣🤣 I am tempted x

FairFridaythe13th · 31/10/2020 13:51

Nasty. She’s prettier than me and at least looks like a real person rather than the anorexic stick insects other companies use.
