Does anyone else find adults on the swings ridiculous?

Can't really explain why but I find parents who go on the swings at the park so annoying. Just been to the park with my child and the swings are six swings on a wooden frame all facing each other like in a circle.
Extremely annoying dad on the swings going as high as possibly can and nearly kicking all the other kids feet every time he goes into the circle. Like why would anyone feel the need to do that. Especially when other kids have to wait a turn. Don't mind being told I'm miserable but I just find it ridiculous grown man acting like that, that is all.

I thought this post was about me for a minute

I was only on the park yesterday and sat on the swing chatting to the kids.
To be fair no one was about it was just us

But I find it quite relaxing 🙈

Tiersforfears · 30/10/2020 20:40

Because it’s fun.

If there are kids waiting to go on the swings though I wouldn’t hog a swing.

GrumpyHoonMain · 30/10/2020 20:47

Swinging strengthens your pelvic floor. MW recommended doing it once my stitches came out and it really helped. I’d never make a kid wait though.

Rose789 · 30/10/2020 21:10

I love swings and I love soft play.
My favourite place to take dd1 is inflataspace we have an absolute ball.

fairydustandpixies · 30/10/2020 21:16

YABU. Swings, trampoline parks, paddling, roundabouts, seesaws...count me in! I'm 49...!

OwlBeThere · 30/10/2020 22:25

No child ever died from waiting to have a go on the swings, nor from being ignored whilst their parent has fun for a bit. And definitely not from almost being kicked.

Wanttolearnmore · 30/10/2020 22:34

What a kill joy OP. I like to go on the swings when it's quiet and it makes my LO smile to see me joining in. I wouldn't go on if there were children waiting. Maybe this guy was being a bit over the top but I don't see the point in whining about this.

Thehop · 30/10/2020 22:35

He was being an arse to disrupt kids and take a turn when busy

KatherineJaneway · 31/10/2020 07:05

I have plenty of fun

I find that hard to believe.

steff13 · 31/10/2020 07:45

Nope. But this is mumsnet where the masses gather to judge anything and everything.

You created this thread to judge a man you saw at the park...

motorcyclenumptiness · 31/10/2020 07:56

There should be special joyless parks for adults where you can wear uncomfortable clothes, do your tax return and sort your recycling

nomdeplume2019 · 31/10/2020 08:18

Kids need to learn to share
He needs to watch his legs
I loathe the coffee cup holding parents who talk loud about being busy😂

mummydoingamasters · 31/10/2020 08:22

Well aren't you the life and soul of the party!

I go on the swings if there's no one waiting, my boy loves seeing me go high and we love going into soft play!

Children thrive and learn from copying so maybe let your hair down and have some fun 🤷🏻‍♀️

This made me chuckle! Reminds me of the black adder scene where the Puritan Nathaniel sits on a spike not a chair so as not to experience “too much comfort or fun” then his wife says I sit on Nathaniel. “Two spikes would be an extravagance! I will suffer comfort this once; we shall just have to stick forks in our legs between courses!”

😆

purplebunny2012 · 31/10/2020 17:19

Seems wrong only because children are having to wait! I'll go on the swings if it's just us

Betzlikemetz · 31/10/2020 17:28

I would go as high as I can- rekindle that magic from my youth when my dad would push me and I loved it! Give me those few moments and memories back please. Plus my children love it when I’m happy and laughing and swinging with them.

If there were children waiting then obviously I wouldn’t go on it.

I can’t believe this is even a post. Look around at the world now and worry about other things!

Ddot · 31/10/2020 18:01

Not when a child is waiting, that's just wrong. Have to confess, when I used to jog around the park, if nobody was watching I'd jam my butt in a swing and go for it Haha very freeing

UnspeakableBode · 31/10/2020 19:17

See I actually find parents who sit on their phones at soft play annoying, I like to keep an eye on my child and ensure they aren't getting hurt or hurting anyone else. The kid pushing other kids and generally causing havoc ALWAYS has a parent sitting on their phone ignoring her and other parents have to try and deal with it. So infuriating!! Also soft play is fun, my local one has adult only sessions! I also love a good swing (as long as no kids are waiting).

AmIbeingTreasonable · 31/10/2020 20:23

What a miserable person you are 😥

cuckooplusone · 31/10/2020 21:28

One of the real joys of being a parent is the excuse to join in and play - I love the swings, the climbing frame, the soft play - I will be so sad when my littlest dd is too old (I suppose then I might get some grandchildren to play with later). I wouldn’t want to interfere in the fun of other kids though and would only have a go if it was quiet. Interestingly, we went to a play area in the wood with my parents last week, my teenage daughter and my small dd (5). The whole lot of us went on the balancing logs and stepping stones - so it’s obviously the whole family who take pleasure in it!

SimonJT · 31/10/2020 21:43

I love a good swing or slide at the park.

The parents who sit having a drink and playing on their phones at softplay tend to be the parents of children who push, shove and generally aren’t very courteous to the other children. We had one at our softplay that was so bad I started taking my son to a different one.

Anordinarymum · 31/10/2020 21:46

I just hate the fact that I can't swing high and then jump off. I'm scared of breaking my old ankles :( Much in the same way as I'm afraid of doing handstands against a wall (breaking my wrists and god knows what else.

PaperMonster · 31/10/2020 21:55

I don’t have a problem with adults going on swings. I feel sick if I go on them though!

Mamanyt · 31/10/2020 22:42

The only ridiculous thing about it is making children wait, and coming so close to kids on the swings. I find it wonderful when adults can stay in touch with simple childhood joys. Those are among the happiest people I know. One of the best people I know is well into his 50s...he plays on swings, slides down slides, and never fails to raise one leg and hop when he comes across a hopscotch board chalked on a sidewalk. He is just JOYOUS, and it's contagious.

Thermo · 31/10/2020 22:43

@allfallsdown

I also find parents that go in soft play really annoying too, down slides and tunnels etc. No need imo
Would rather be annoying and assist my daughter at the park with her disabilities than sit nice to please you
