Does anyone else find adults on the swings ridiculous?

Can't really explain why but I find parents who go on the swings at the park so annoying. Just been to the park with my child and the swings are six swings on a wooden frame all facing each other like in a circle.
Extremely annoying dad on the swings going as high as possibly can and nearly kicking all the other kids feet every time he goes into the circle. Like why would anyone feel the need to do that. Especially when other kids have to wait a turn. Don't mind being told I'm miserable but I just find it ridiculous grown man acting like that, that is all.

I have seen a few swings in parks that say no adults allowed on them, because of the weight restrictions.

titnomatani · 30/10/2020 15:33

I was with you until you mentioned soft-play. Not only are YBU but you also sound incredibly uptight. Loosen up woman.

Mittens030869 · 30/10/2020 15:34

* Gosh, a grown man having FUN?! The horror. I do hope you called the Fun-Police to come and take him back home to his pipe and slippers.*

I also loved this.

I’m actually jealous, because I’m too overweight to be able to sit on a swing comfortably. Grin

ILoveYoga · 30/10/2020 15:34

I love the swings. Oh the feeling of flying through the air and not a care in the world. They were my favourite at the park! I think I’m going to try to find some this weekend. I could really do with feeling that again (but of course not taking the turn of children in the park).

Adults can enjoy swings too. Slides too (hope my bum will fit!)

AllTheUserNamesAreTaken · 30/10/2020 15:35

I love a go on the swing if I take my son to the park and they’re free. I would always get off if the rest of them were taken as I would want to leave it free for another child but if they're free, what harm does it do.

I also used to love it when my son needed supervising at one of the soft play centres near us - he couldn’t quite climb up part of it so I would go on to help him and then slide back down with him. Never got in anyone’s way, never bowled a child over, often helped a stray child up if they couldn’t climb up, had fun

Where’s the harm? you fun sponge!

NetflixWatcher · 30/10/2020 15:35

YABU OP. though they make me feel sick.

AllTheUserNamesAreTaken · 30/10/2020 15:38

I bet you hate water slides too, don’t you op? In fact, I bet you hate adults having fun at all?

There's a lot of helicopter parents on this thread. Who can't even let their little darlings go off to play for an hour without them breathing over them. More about the parents needs than the child, lots of people saying how much fun they like to have at soft play.. which is for children not adults

I love a good swing next to the children, but will only go on if nobody else is at the park, for fear of looking like a gigantic twat.

I do hate adults acting like kids, it always seems a bit attention seeking. There's a Dad who always rides his daughers scooter home from school drop-off with a "Look at how wacky I am!" expression on his face, and I always cringe internally when I see him.

That's the exact sort of this i hate, but all the wacky parents are out on force on this thread today united in how fun they are

Is it really helicopter parenting though, when your child goes and plays on something else and you remain rooted on the swing? Seriously? Blush

titnomatani · 30/10/2020 15:45

You do realise children come in different shapes, sizes and ages? There's nothing wrong with helicoptering and supervising your own very young child and having fun at the same time.

You're clearly triggered by what the dad was doing and how the rest of think there's no harm in him having a swing- instead of being passive aggressive, you should've had the guts to either say something to him at the time or perhaps reflect on the different views bring expressed here. #funsponge

titnomatani · 30/10/2020 15:47

We're not all wacky/attention seeking parents, we like to fully engage with our children when out and about (including the playground) and couldn't give a shit what a passive aggressive Karen thinks of us or the post she'll later create on MN!

occa · 30/10/2020 15:50

Swings are great fun, but obviously only when no children want a go.

IEat · 30/10/2020 15:50

I love going on the swings, slide, roundabout. I do move if a kid wants a go but otherwise weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Noimusntforget · 30/10/2020 15:51

As I've already said, I was stood behind my child pushing her on the swing.. never said I wasn't engaging with her. I said I didn't feel the need to climb into a ball bit with a load of toddlers for an hour when my child is happy enough playing with other kids. So calm down

I’d love to know what a wacky face looks like.
I’m just picturing Timmy Mallett riding hell for leather on a pink scooter looking manic.

Nothing wacky about going on a swing or soft play OP.

raddledoldmisanthropist · 30/10/2020 15:55

Imagine Mr Tumble's sex face.

namechangetheworld · 30/10/2020 15:55

@titnomatani

There are plenty of ways of engaging with your kids at the park without acting like at attention seeking dick and hogging equipment that other kids could be using. Clearly you lack imagination.

Anyway, any valid points you might have been making were quickly invalidated when you used a hashtag and the ridiculous term Karen. Are you even old enough to have children..?

CremantCharlie · 30/10/2020 15:55

I came across a swing in some woods a few weeks ago and I spent an hour swinging on it, seriously the best time I have had in months. Nobody around, in my own little world. Adult swings, as opposed to swingers, should be introduced everywhere.

Sirzy · 30/10/2020 15:55

If you could provide a list of when it’s allowed for parents to have fun with their children and when it isn’t then that would be great so we can all parent the way you have decided is right!

LoseLooseLucy · 30/10/2020 15:57

Oh gawd 🤭. You like to fully engage while the rest of us just throw our kids into oncoming traffic I assume?
