Travellers foodbank challenge.

Posting for traffic and suggestions.

We have started the fb challenge again this year as it's needed more than ever.
We challenge family members to buy an extra weeks worth of food and donate to food banks. Nobody is left out, we all have to rise to the challenge and want to, tbh.

I have posted on dozens of pages asking to remember to include san pro.
If anyone has suggestions that might be forgotten, I'd appreciate the heads up. Also, just to let the people in supermarkets and food banks aware, as this is usually done on such a big scale.

So far I have family in Leicester and Cheshire signing up. But will post other areas as I become aware.
Any suggestions will be very helpful.
Tia.

@Fluffycloudland77

Wow. More front than Brighton.
Why?
Soubriquet · 30/10/2020 11:57

Well I commend you for being able to afford an extra weeks worth of shopping to be donated

I couldn’t afford that, but I admire those who can do this

Well done

Heartofstrings · 30/10/2020 11:57

I'm friends with a traveller. He pays tax on his businesses. He says that travellers often have more cash available as caravans are cheaper than houses?

He's a savvy businessman but interestingly paid every single one of his workmen full wages during furlough.

StormBaby · 30/10/2020 11:57

It’s a huge thing that’s been going for a few years in the traveller community. I live in a popular area for travellers so I guess that’s maybe why I know about it?

Eh?

@yellowmaoampinball

People are misunderstanding the op I think. Travellers are donating a weeks worth of shopping to food banks - op wants suggestions of useful items that people may not think about like San Pro.
Ok, this makes sense.

Why don't you ask foodbanks what it needed most?

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/10/2020 11:58

Because right now buying us one weeks food shopping is hard enough without being asked to double it up that’s why.

TingTastic · 30/10/2020 11:58

Just how many people can afford to buy 2 weeks worth of shopping in one go (one to donate and one to keep)?!!

AlwaysCheddar · 30/10/2020 11:59

Shame the op didn’t make her post clearer.

Are you a traveler?
Cailleachian · 30/10/2020 12:00

Wow - this really demonstrates anti-traveler bias, doesnt it?

God forbid that travelers would be -kind- wealthy enough to donate a weeks shopping

BigSandyBalls2015 · 30/10/2020 12:00

Ok I get it now. However, I still think it's a big ask …. why not do it on a smaller scale, does it have to be a week's worth or nothing?

OverTheRainbow88 · 30/10/2020 12:00

I think it’s a great idea for those that can afford it!! Good work! We’ve been donating money weekly to our local food bank. Not as much as a weeks shop as that’s out of our reach but what we can.

It’s great to raise publicity about food banks needing help.

Christ, usual jump to Def Cunt One as soon as travellers are mentioned. Hmm
Anyone who can donate the extra week’s food, is the gist of it, no one’s making it compulsory ffs.

It’s a fab campaign, @Devilesko.
I’ve noticed our local food bank ask for hand sanitiser and disposable masks in addition to the usual stuff, so I added those the last couple of times.

Lozz22 · 30/10/2020 12:02

A weeks worth! I can't even afford to feed myself for a 2 weeks a month

GroundAlmonds · 30/10/2020 12:02

Is there any need for the negativity @Breakupcharlie ?

An extra weeks worth omg it's great you can do that, I defo will not be doing it or I'll have to go to the food bank myself.

myhobbyisouting · 30/10/2020 12:04

MN got out of the wrong side of bed this morning

The travellers foodbank challenge has been going for years and it's fantastic.

What is all the horror for? Most people can afford to donate a weeks worth of food once a year (although the challenge does see huge trolleys full )

@Devilesko our foodbank consistently asks for size 5 and 6 nappies. They have loads of newborn but very few bigger ones.

MsStillwell · 30/10/2020 12:05

Shame the op didn’t make her post clearer.

Yes, funny that.

Viviennemary · 30/10/2020 12:05

Asking people to donate a weeks worth of food is so unrealistic. And demonstrates how out of touch some people are.

vanillandhoney · 30/10/2020 12:07

What about things like face masks? Ideally the disposable ones as then people won't need to worry about being able to get them washed and dry. Going into winter, maybe things like hot water bottles or re-usable hand warmers that can be activated by being put in boiling water?

ispepsiokay · 30/10/2020 12:08

What a fantastic thing you're doing OP especially when the biggest news stories currently are families unable to feed their own children.

I couldn't afford a whole week but if those who can afford a few extras did it would help out enormously I'm sure.
