Suck it up. You voted for them. No one made you.

Everyone is entitled to have a moan, but seriously, WHY WHY WHY did you ever vote tory thinking they'd got your back?!?!

MimiDaisy11 · 28/10/2020 15:46

At least, hopefully , the blatant corruption and incompetence will remind them of how bad the tories are, and labour might win the election - in 4 years :(.

I don't get the Boris appeal either. He's a terrible communicator and just all round terrible lazy politician.

bellinisurge · 28/10/2020 15:48

@MimiDaisy11 , it's an indication of how shit Corbyn was that Johnson was seen as the least worst option.

Goosefoot · 28/10/2020 15:50

Oh - I also think there were people who wanted to "get Brexit done" who were NOT Leave voters. But having had the vote the last thing they wanted was to draw it out or have another referendum.

Nottherealslimshady · 28/10/2020 15:55

What the fuck has whether I live in the north or south of the country got to do with who I should vote for?
Labour are shite they dont have the workers in mind at all. Problem is, they're all shit.

ChaChaCha2012 · 28/10/2020 15:55

No, it was an 'oven ready (Brexit) deal' that made them 'back Boris'.

Basically, they fell for a multitude of lies.

ChaChaCha2012 · 28/10/2020 15:56

Labour are shite they dont have the workers in mind at all.

They fought against the erosion of workers rights for decades. Where have you been?

wink1970 · 28/10/2020 16:03

@THisbackwithavengeance

Well put, though expect to be called a racist by the same liberal left who despise us.

Many Northerners don't remember Thatcher and their families have long since moved out of mining areas and into affluent yorkshire or lancashire belts. They are aspirational and want the same opportunities as 'down south', and no longer wanted the tub-thumping backwards-looking Labour party, who just remind many people of years of shop stewards, striking and scabs....

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 28/10/2020 16:45

@ssd

Ah, we're just working class scum. We're sorry: too thick to know better Hmm

Teateaandmoretea · 28/10/2020 17:06

They fought against the erosion of workers rights for decades. Where have you been?

Not much evidence of that since last century, these days it’s all ideology and champagne socialism.

I am fairly baffled that anyone still buys into all the labour/ Tory crap tbh. They are all from the same backgrounds and schools pedalling out their political careers.

forgetthehousework · 28/10/2020 17:28

Brexit voters, regardless of location, were portrayed as racist bigots by labour when trying to discuss their concerns about immigration; the liberal democrat party ignored the democratic process completely, saying they'd hold another referendum. The tories at least had the courtesy to appear to be listening. Perhaps this had something to do with why they gained so many votes!

Orcus · 28/10/2020 17:37

There were a number of reasons why ‘The North’ voted Conservative and I’m rather incredulous that some are still questioning it

Except the north of England didn't vote Conservative. The region returned a majority of Labour MPs, again, and Labour were the largest party, again. The losses in seats didn't actually alter either of these facts.

Quaagars · 28/10/2020 17:49

I've voted YABU and I don't even vote Tory.

Quaagars · 28/10/2020 17:50

The tories at least had the courtesy to appear to be listening. Perhaps this had something to do with why they gained so many votes!

I think there's a lot of truth in that.

FreekStar · 28/10/2020 17:52

Well, I'm no fan but Danny Dyer but he has a point. Relying on a bunch of blokes who disproportionality all went to the same school and are from the same area of the country does not bode well. We need more diversity in politics, we need to be educating our children to believe that anyone can be a leader, regardless of class or their home-town. There needs to be a national drive to end the elitism in politics and recruit people who can apply strategies and theories that work for the good of the country, not just their own interests and those of their mates.

Liquorishlucy · 28/10/2020 17:55

The tory party 'listened' because brexit is a right wing concept which fits in well with their political philosophy ie free market low tax low regulation economy not because they are any more responsive or tuned in to the electorate than the labour party. They were amazingly clever at turning it into a populist issue about sovereignty and 'our money, laws and borders when in fact now the ordinary person has even less sway over what they do.
And this constant crap about labour being shit, labour are dead, so many of the progressive things we take for granted happened under a labour government ie nmw, free tv licences for over 75s, winter fuel, funded nursery places.
Not all mps are lazy or feckless either, some work remarkably hard and if we look at complacency, many tory mps are equally guilty but never have to contend with the same kind of issues around social deprivation as some northern mps where austerity has hit hardest. Funnily enough the tories are never accused of being champagne tories even when the cabinet is made up of multiple millionaires Hmm

derxa · 28/10/2020 18:02

Funnily enough the tories are never accused of being champagne tories even when the cabinet is made up of multiple millionaires

Funnily enough there's an internet campaign against Rishi Sunak at the moment accusing him of this very thing

Goosefoot · 28/10/2020 18:04

The tory party 'listened' because brexit is a right wing concept

Except that paying attention to/controllin movement of capital, movement of labour, and national control of industry are traditionally leftist concepts as much as conservative ones. While liberals typically would oppose that.

Looked at that way the voting patterns make a lot more sense, the only bizarre element is how a bunch on middle class liberals decided they were on the left and gained control of the Labour Party.

Teateaandmoretea · 28/10/2020 18:14

Funnily enough the tories are never accused of being champagne tories even when the cabinet is made up of multiple millionaires

But that’s what Tories are 😂😂🙄

Orcus · 28/10/2020 18:27

Never noticed the Tories listening to my area of the north, I must say. Mind you, we're the wrong type.

Todaywewilldobetter · 28/10/2020 18:36

"The North" didn't all vote Tory at all. Where did you get this nonsense from?

And we do have names, you know. We're not just the homogenous blob of stupidity that "London" thinks we are.

iklboogeymum · 28/10/2020 18:40

Another hand grenade post by the OP I see.

YANBU! How anyone in the working class towns of the North thought Boris and co and have any understanding at all about their lives or care for their welfare is completely beyond me.

ssd · 28/10/2020 19:28

I'm still here. I haven't caught up with the thread today but purple flower says exactly what I mean.

There's not much more to say really.
