MIL has given us a massive picture I really don’t like

More of a what would you do? Moved into our new home. MIL has bought a massive (truly massive- think full wall) picture which is really not my taste as a gift. Not sure tbh if she has deliberately given it knowing I would hate it but feel compelled to display it. Using the excuse that we are decorating at the moment but she keeps asking where we will be putting it. She is the type to be really difficult if I told the truth. Would I be unreasonable to accidentally break it?

No, this absolutely MUST be dealt with now, otherwise it will become a real source of misery. And yes: OH to deal with it. OTHERWISE: it should be posted on the bathroom walls. All four of em. And the ceiling.

The walls in my house are (genuinely) terrible for trying to hang pictures, mirrors etc. They are breeze block with a very thin layer of plaster and just not strong enough to reliably hold anything with much weight to it; the nail holes just crumble into gaping craters! Can you use this as an excuse OP? (Even if it’s not true - she can hardly drill a hole in your wall to check!)

When we bought our first house my mil bought a three piece suite for our sitting room.
There was no consultation.
None.
My then dh had to tell me it was arriving on Saturday.
We had no money to buy our own but would in time.
I swore I'd never sit on it. I did eventually.
It was patterned. It was expensive. I had to get curtains to match.
