that me and my family have to spend half term self isolating.

I am a solicitor and last week I met a client to sign up documents for a completion. Today I got a call from work to say the client had tested positive for Covid.

I was contacted by track and trace and now have to be tested tomorrow and Friday. If all clear I can resume contact with society by Sunday at the earliest.

My whole family have to stay at home until I have 2 clear tests.

It is what is is, but seriously what a shit show

Oh op. That is a shit show. So sorry for you and the family. Do you at least have a way to get in everything you will all need for the week ?

If you’re just cross at the general situation, YANBU.

If you’re cross at an individual (e.g. the client), YABU. It seems highly unlikely that s/he wants to have Covid.

We’re self-isolating at the moment too (well, DD is, because of a positive case in her school bubble, which means we can’t all go out together) and it’s boring, but I’m not going to waste any energy being angry about it.

If you’re cross at an individual (e.g. the client), YABU. It seems highly unlikely that s/he wants to have Covid.

We’re self-isolating at the moment too (well, DD is, because of a positive case in her school bubble, which means we can’t all go out together) and it’s boring, but I’m not going to waste any energy being angry about it.

Just a bit hacked off with the whole covid thing tbh.

We are fine for everything as I turned into something of a preppier after the last lock down, so we want for nothing.

Just sorry that the DC won't be able to meet up with their friends and we cant go for walks etc. Silly stuff really

That sounds rubbish for you. But I don't understand why you are being tested. I thought if you had close contact with someone with covid, you should isolate for 14 days irrespective of whether you get a negative test result.

Have the rules changed...thought it was14 days and having a negative test made no impact on the requirement to quarantine for the duration?

That’s odd. Ds had to isolate due to a classmate testing positive but the rest of us didn’t because he didn’t show symptoms. Why do your family have to isolate? Have they changed the rules again?

@mysteryfairy that’s right - 14 days from last contact. No need to get a test unless you have symptoms.

We are stuck at home for half-term as 15 year sent home on the last day before the hols to self-isolate (for the second time this term) - it’s rubbish, but that it is the way it is.

Sorry, should have explained, I am in Jersey and so you can isolate for 14 days or have a PCR test on days 5 and 8. If clear you are ok. All the people you live with have to isolate too for that time.

I thought because of the incubation period that you could come out with covid symptoms any time up to 14 days hence the need to self isolate. You could test negative today but then develope covid in 3 days time?
Also DS1 has to self isolate as someone at school has tested positive but our letter says the test of us can carry on as normal?

Its only if he gets symptoms that you have to isolate

Why do the whole family have to isolate if only you had contact? Doesn't help you any but when my son had contact it was only he who had to isolate, the rest of us could come and go as we pleased.

Lesson learnt OP. We are not seeing any clients personally. All docusign/emails etc. We are able to continue and conclude all areas of law remotely.

I'd be f**ked off too.

yes, ssd saw the client for about 15 minutes without a mask. I suspect our work policy will change now though!

And yes, here if anyone in a household has direct contact they all have to isolate.

Cant even go and buy a halloween pumpkin Sad!

My grandma is 99yo. Her live-in carer just got that same call- you’re a contact of a Covid case, so isolate at home.

At home is with my grandma, who would be unlikely to survive a normal cold, let alone Covid. It’ll be a very tense few days for our whole family across the world. With a bit of luck, grandma won’t need to be tested herself- just that would be quite traumatising for her.

But your kids miss out on a walk with their mates? Wow, ok.
Silly stuff indeed.

Idk why people have to lay guilt trips on people for being reasonably fucked off. This half term has been absolutely desperately longed for by everyone i know, people are allowed to be hacked off about spending it eating tinned fruit cocktail and stopping the dc bouncing off the walls instead of doing nice things ffs. Not everything has to be a race to the bottom.

Oh it’s fine for people to be pissed off for having to isolate when they have ACTUALLY been in close contact with someone who has Covid. But how dare the rest of us in a national lockdown/tier 3 complain when we have to basically self isolate indefinitely?? Mumsnet is bloody weird.
