to be monumentally fucked off

that me and my family have to spend half term self isolating.

I am a solicitor and last week I met a client to sign up documents for a completion. Today I got a call from work to say the client had tested positive for Covid.

I was contacted by track and trace and now have to be tested tomorrow and Friday. If all clear I can resume contact with society by Sunday at the earliest.

My whole family have to stay at home until I have 2 clear tests.

It is what is is, but seriously what a shit show

Yeah don’t you know, you are not allowed to be upset about anything because there is always some one worse off that you. Only that 1 single person in the whole world who is more badly off that everyone else in the world is allowed to be upset don’tyaknow 🙄

Catchytune · 26/10/2020 23:46

@RufustheSniggeringReindeer

But your kids miss out on a walk with their mates? Wow, ok

I really don’t understand why people have To be so pointlessly mean

Why even bother posting

Because it’s only two weeks? God knows most of the time we are all posting our teens won’t get off their phones or come out of their rooms anyway. They’d be more upset if Boris made them go out in family groups everyday. Oh the shame.
MadameMeursault · 26/10/2020 23:48

@Girlzroolz

My grandma is 99yo. Her live-in carer just got that same call- you’re a contact of a Covid case, so isolate at home.

At home is with my grandma, who would be unlikely to survive a normal cold, let alone Covid. It’ll be a very tense few days for our whole family across the world. With a bit of luck, grandma won’t need to be tested herself- just that would be quite traumatising for her.

But your kids miss out on a walk with their mates? Wow, ok.
Silly stuff indeed.

Are you so nasty IRL @Girlzroolz or just when hidden behind your keyboard?
mysteryfairy · 27/10/2020 02:26

Thanks for clarifying re your location and sorry for my bemused post...your mention of track and trace made me think you were referring to the U.K. test and trace but I see from googling that Jersey uses the same terminology.

In answer to the AIBU of course you aren’t! It’s gutting to be looking forward to a week off and then to have what small pleasures you do have curtailed. Not sure why people are laying in to you when you clearly intend to follow the quarantine rules - you don’t need to be thrilled about it too!

Girlzroolz · 27/10/2020 03:09

@MadameMeursault

Hard to say what I’m like in public, I’m on month 7 of hard lockdown where I live. So all this whining about missing a bank holiday walk is particularly galling to the people I know.

Lord only knows how upsetting it is to those who have lost relatives, jobs and have serious issues under Covid.

I agree that it’s not a ‘race to the bottom’ and we’re all entitled to be a bit annoyed when Covid finally comes knocking at our own door. But to be ‘monumentally fucked off’ over so little inconvenience seems at best grossly unsympathetic and at worst shockingly self-absorbed.

If that’s so nasty to point out, I’m happy to put my hand up. Clearly we have different definitions of nasty.

supersonicginandtonic · 27/10/2020 03:22

Yes @Girlzroolz you are being nasty despite your situation. There's many of us suffering situations like you u but I'd still be pissed off at missing half term. It's looked forward too, many people have plans and it's a bit of normality for everybody. Exactly what a lot of people need right now.

Rosebel · 27/10/2020 03:25

Just because you are having a shit time it doesn't mean others aren't too.
I would be pissed off too if we had to spend half term isolating as we've already done that twice. My daughter's are seeing their cousins who they haven't seen since February this week. They would have been really upset if we'd cancelled that.
Life is so rubbish for many right now,

walksen · 27/10/2020 03:30

I'm in a similar situation. Been working in a secondary school where cases exploded about two weeks ago and a third of staff went off with covid. Rest of us soldiered on covering for I'll colleagues. No breaks or lunch as spent with kids. 2 cases per day in students over the same time. Quite a lot as we only have 800 kids.

Close contacts only sent home. This doesn't apparently mean anyone within 2m on the seating plan just whoever is sat directly next to them.

Even with one third of staff off there was no increased testing, no change in procedures, no deep clean etc.

First day of half term holiday could not smell or taste my bacon sarnie. Tested same day. Confirmed positive. Spending half term isolating alone!
Just glad I stopped seeing my support bubble 2 weeks ago when colleagues started testing positive in droves so at least they get a holiday.

EmbarrassedUser · 27/10/2020 03:39

YANBU at all OP. I’ve just been told I was in contact with someone last week and now have to self isolate for 2 weeks, just waiting for my own swab result. The most annoying thing is that I was going to have lunch with my brother but he was temporarily held up so as I only get 45 mins for lunch I decided not to wait and eat with colleagues. It was in that exact time frame that I was reportedly sat with the person with the lurgy 🤮

BeckH77 · 27/10/2020 04:15

That definitely sucks! Much as I love my children it’s not healthy for them or us to spend 24/7 together. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you that you come back negative, if you don’t, do not feel guilty about using telly /iPads to keep them occupied whilst you work or just to give you some quiet time x

Aridane · 27/10/2020 04:52

I agree with @Girlzroolz and clearly am a nasty person too. I also agree with @Catchytune whose post made me smile.

I also admire that your Track, Trace and Isolate seems to work

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 27/10/2020 08:07

Because it’s only two weeks?

So what

The post was still still pointlessly mean

aidrene i dont think girlzroolz is being nasty at all, in my opinion

That's such a shame OP, especially over half term. Wishing you two quick negative tests!!

Urgh, sorry to hear this. DH is a secondary school teacher and we were sure our first isolation would come from him or the kids.

Not me who saw one client all week 🙄

I feel for you, my DC just tested postive and we all had to isolate. They had their 7th birthday in isolation.

Now we are in local lockdown. It's utterly shit.

FunnysInLaJardin · 27/10/2020 22:30

it really is shit Pumpkin. Happy birthday to you DC though!

OP posts:
Muchtoomuchtodo · 27/10/2020 22:36

That is shit but I don’t understand why you and the client couldn’t have maintained social distancing?

I’m amazed that your employer doesn’t insist on this to prevent this type of situation from happening. I work in the NHS. We wear mask, visor, apron and gloves for all patient contact where 2m distance cannot be maintained (regardless of their Covid status) and have to maintain 2m social distancing from all colleagues in a non clinical environment. Otherwise entire teams could be wiped out by one positive test.

A review of your procedures will hopefully prevent this from happening to you or your colleagues again.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 27/10/2020 23:18

I'm surprised that your employer doesn't already have safe procedures for seeing clients, it doesn't take all that much. I bought a new car and there was a temperature check and hand sanitiser at the door, a perspex screen across the desk, separate pens for signing documents and everyone wore masks. That would be quite straightforward to set up in your client-facing rooms.

It is shit for your family to spend half term like this when they were probably looking forward to getting out and about. I hope you test negative.

Aridane · 28/10/2020 09:05

yes, ssd saw the client for about 15 minutes without a mask. I suspect our work policy will change now though!

I’m surprised any office bars work environment doesn’t mandate masks in this sort of situation

FunnysInLaJardin · 28/10/2020 13:26

We did maintain a 2 metre distance, however the problem was that our meeting was longer than 15 minutes by about 5 minutes and so hence the direction to self isolate and get tested.

Masks wouldn't have made any difference to the direction to isolate as they are not one of the criteria

OP posts:
ssd · 28/10/2020 20:57

So is it that you get contacted if you are with someone over 15 minutes who tests positive, even if you social distanced?

FunnysInLaJardin · 28/10/2020 22:23

ssd yes. Although in my case the client contacted us at work and we contacted track and trace as a precaution. They would have contacted me sooner or later anyway as the client has given our details to track and trace.

Incidentally I have my first negative result, hooray! Now have to get tested again on Friday and wait for that result

OP posts:
ssd · 28/10/2020 22:25

Fab!!
Fingers crossed its the same on Friday.
