AIBU to ask why the fuck my dishwasher won’t clean anything?

It’s a Bosch dishwasher, maybe six years old. I have, in no particular order -

  • repeatedly rinsed through both dishwasher arms
  • cleaned the filter
  • filled the dishwasher salt
  • filled the rinse aid

Neither the top nor the bottom racks are remotely clean, I put the dishwasher tablet in and it doesn’t clear it away, when I open it at the end of the cycle it’s sitting their looking at me.

It’s been almost a week, I’ve tried everything I can think. I’m going to take a sledgehammer to the bastard thing if I have to open it one more time to find still dirty dishes.

Please help!

Is there a fault with the water getting in to the machine? No idea how you diagnose that, my dishwasher tells me on the digital display Blush

Embracelife · 26/10/2020 19:21

Just dont put the tab in its box.
Clearly it isnt opening.
Throw tab in the bottom

Twickerhun · 26/10/2020 19:22

Ours is the same. It works better if I pre-wash all my dishes each time. Coz that’s what you want to do.

AlohaMolly · 26/10/2020 19:22

Hmmm maybe but I have no digital display. Everything seems suitably wet and it’s draining properly.

My dishwasher wasn't cleaning. Engineer recommended Fairy Platinum plus. Problem solved!

AlohaMolly · 26/10/2020 19:24

I have balanced the tab on the little shelf that it pops out on to and it still isn’t even breaking it down. Before, there would sometimes be a little bit of one leftover but never had there ever been whole tablets left after like three washes.

Maybe it is something to do with water intake then?

Dishwashers are the devil's spawn

nannynick · 26/10/2020 19:25

If a short cycle, throw the tablet in the bottom.
If a long cycle then it is not getting hot enough to release the flap at the correct point, or could be a fault with the flap itself.

Now my Bosch does not have that problem, it has the problem of not draining when doing a short cycle but drains fine on a long cycle. Replaced the filters, run a cleaner through... still does it.

Dishwashers are just a pain sometimes.

Facelikearustytractor · 26/10/2020 19:25

Same issue here. Bosch dishwashers are pretty crap apparently. I just rinse plates well before they go in.

CovidClara · 26/10/2020 19:26

Have you tipped it forward?

AlohaMolly · 26/10/2020 19:27

See, I genuinely can’t be arsed to pre rinse, but I always scrape food and sauce off and religiously use the rinse setting before the full wash setting.

I might well try different tablets, I use smol and it’s just crossed my mind that maybe there’s a fault with this batch and the outer layer isn’t degrading or whatever it’s supposed to do

It sounds like the tablet holder isn't working properly. Before doing anything else give it a really good scrub, especially round the hinges to make sure it's not sticking and being prevented from opening. Or put the tablet on a rack, preferably the top cutlery rack if it has one. Not in the bottom of the machine or it'll get rinsed away before it should.

Blondiecub0109 · 26/10/2020 19:28

Is it getting warm? The wire to the element wore through on ours it was rinsing cold only

EggyPegg · 26/10/2020 19:28

I had this with my old Beko. DH agreed to buy a new one after I declared that I couldn't keep doing this.

On mine, the arms no longer rotated, so the water was just pitfully dribbling out of them into the same spot. Open it a mid cycle. Check the position of the arms. Close, wait for it to kick in again (and theoretically start spinning).if they're in the same position when you open it the second time, they're not roatating.

My Beko lives at the tip now.

AlohaMolly · 26/10/2020 19:28

@CovidClara tipped what forward?

If it’s not getting hot enough, is that an engineer problem? I’m so broke Sad and in welsh lockdown for the next —million years— week or so

ShaunaTheSheep · 26/10/2020 19:29

Has the water heater packed in?

EggyPegg · 26/10/2020 19:29

It does sound like your release catch is knackered though. Just throw the tablet in the bottom.

LockdownLil · 26/10/2020 19:30

ours had a problem that the washing machine installed next to it would jiggle the door- causing the lock mechanism to not work properly so it ran short cycles and didn't open the soap holder. Any chance it could be the door?

AlohaMolly · 26/10/2020 19:30

Ok these are top tips!

I shall check it’s getting hot and the arm position. I will also scrub the tablet door and place tablet on cutlery rack.

You could always ask in the housekeeping topic.

Have you run a dishwasher cleaner or soda crystals through on an empty, long hot wash?

We lob the tablet into the bottom of the dishwasher and never bother with the little door. All comes out clean.

vanillandhoney · 26/10/2020 19:31

Just put the tablet in the bottom of the dishwasher instead of in the drawer bit. It just sounds like the trap where the tablet goes isn't opening properly.
