AIBU to ask why the fuck my dishwasher won’t clean anything?

It’s a Bosch dishwasher, maybe six years old. I have, in no particular order -

  • repeatedly rinsed through both dishwasher arms
  • cleaned the filter
  • filled the dishwasher salt
  • filled the rinse aid

Neither the top nor the bottom racks are remotely clean, I put the dishwasher tablet in and it doesn’t clear it away, when I open it at the end of the cycle it’s sitting their looking at me.

It’s been almost a week, I’ve tried everything I can think. I’m going to take a sledgehammer to the bastard thing if I have to open it one more time to find still dirty dishes.

Please help!

Mine was the same, husband checked all likely parts that could have failed (water wasn't heating, pump, skinny arms thing) I just said it's broken and needs replaced

Turned out I wasn't removing lime scale often enough (or even at all).

First sign of a gritty top shelf in the dishwasher now I just put a descaler in.

Oysterbabe · 27/10/2020 09:21

When this happened to mine the heating element had gone and a man had to come and replace it. Is it hot when the cycle has finished?

goldenharvest · 27/10/2020 09:49

Is it actually getting hot? My ancient Bosch washes really well. If it doesn't I do what you did and it fixes the problem.

goldenharvest · 27/10/2020 09:52

Also make sure you are not preventing the 2 arms to whirl around by having tall pan handles etc, sticking up and stopping them.

The little holes that get blocked.. tip here, take a sharp knife and push and twist it into the holes to make them larger. Fewer bits of food get trapped in them.

BathtubGin · 27/10/2020 09:53

You need to tip the machine forward.

Pull it out. Tip it as far forward as you can. Water will probably drain out underneath and onto the floor but might not. Tip it back.

Its magic- honestly.

I’m an hour and a half in to hand washing everything and I want to take my own head off.

It’s definitely the arms not spinning, it does get hot enough.

I don’t have the bandwidth to deal with this today Sad we are locked down (Wales) it’s pouring rain yet again and 4 year old DS misses his friends, my family (south of England) and it’s all just a bit shit today.

I can’t afford to call someone out so what is my next step? There’s a plate at the bottom of the dishwasher with screws, so I guess I’ll unscrew that and see what I can see??

@AlohaMolly The arms spin because water from above hits them. They are not mechanically spinning. So look at how or where the water is entering the machine?

goldenharvest · 27/10/2020 10:09

Although you'd have to sit inside the bastard to do that!

SchoolNightWine · 27/10/2020 10:12

Read up on 'pressure chamber blocked in dishwasher'. We thought our water heater had gone as it wasn't getting hot, therefore tablet not dissolving, items not clean and everything still wet at the end of the cycle.
Turns out our pressure chamber was blocked which stops enough water getting to where it needs to go and causes all the problems above.
Cost us about £100 to fix as called someone out, but the part itself was much less.

@AlohaMolly did you work it out?

Rexasaurus · 28/10/2020 21:40

**Where do I goooo from here??
(Now that the eeeeend is near...)

Bonus points if you know where that’s from!**

Buffy- once more with feeling

BexR · 28/10/2020 21:47

Sounds like you know what the problem is, if not how to fix it.

When mine wasnt cleaning it was the cutlery baskets fault. It had a big hole that forks slipped through and stopped the bottom spinner.

Also mine stopped sending out water at the start of lockdown. It made noises as if it was trying to fill but dry as a bone. I hand washed for weeks. Then once lockdown eased booked an engineer. Tested it the night before he was due. The fucker worked perfectly. Absolute twat.

AlohaMolly · 29/10/2020 10:56

I have not fixed it yet. My next step is to go at it with a screwdriver and see if I can have a look in the actual machine to see if there’s a blockage, but I just can’t bring myself to do it in half term. Once DS is back in school I’ll get to it... but until then there’s going to be a lot of one pot meals!!

Replace it.

AlohaMolly · 29/10/2020 11:00

I’d love to replace it, along with the pile of shite swanky Samsung washing machine, but unfortunately that is well out of my league right now!
