Half term for us this week am on the Wirral. I had some plans for me and DC 5 & 3 we have got some great parks locally and the beach literally on my door step so was going to picnic days and just generally be out and about! ........

Well it is pissing down all week!!! Again we have some great indoor stuff for rainy days but it’s all shut!!! Due to being in Tier 3 Lockdown. Am sick of being stuck in with them so are they to be fair.......there is only so much baking, Lego and crafts we can do

I am preparing to be flamed for being a bit of a brat but am just so fed up of being stuck in!!

Yep, really starting to struggle now 😩 over the summer we were outside all the time. Now the weather is damp and wet. We hate going out in the rain so no puddle jumping for us!! Lots of moaning and whinging all round!
We are tier 2, can't go to grandparents house etc. Our swimming pool is not open to children. Alot of other places haven't opened up or they were booking only which got fully booked immediately and we can't get in anywhere.
Other places seem to be being absolutely swamped with visitors. Was reading a lot of negative comments on Facebook yesterday about non covid safe experiences and unable to socially distance due to huge crowds! Puts me off!

greyinganddecaying · 26/10/2020 10:34

T3 here too. We have a rough plan to do some some local pumpkin hunts when the rain is less torrential, we're carving pumpkins (well they're choosing the designs and I'm doing the sharp work), making cakes/biscuits, dressing up, doing crafts, watching Halloween films etc - not sure if that will last us the week though.

sarkyone · 26/10/2020 10:40

At least you can go out in the rain if you want to.
We are Tier 3 (Manchester) but my youngest was sent home to self-isolate last Monday and my eldest has to self-isolate till Saturday. We are normally always out and about - football, martial arts, park, cycling but we can't even leave the house....

It definitely rubbish all round.
We are doing homework (!), watching lots of tv - now on series 3 of House of Anubis, baking and cooking and playing games but I am bored with everything.

GrolliffetheDragon · 26/10/2020 11:24

That is really shite for those of you in Wales

It's not all bad for all of us.

We're doing ok, taken DS out for a long walk every day so far, rain or not. I bought crafty stuff last week so we have things to do indoors if we get fed up of the rain.

TheDowagerDuchessofMwwwahaha · 26/10/2020 11:26

Sounds really rough.

It’s so shitty that this week is so rain in much of the UK too! Typical October weather I guess.

This was the thing about the first lockdown - we were so lucky with the weather than made it bearable.

Anoisagusaris · 26/10/2020 11:29

Not in the U.K. - we can’t go further than 5km, and living rurally that doesn’t leave many options. Cinema, bowling (2 local amenities that we have), cafes, restaurants and all non essential shops (that that we have any within 5km) are shut . No camps for the kids.

banjaxxed · 26/10/2020 11:50

South Yorks here and and isolating child so effectively can't do anything. It's utter shite.

mymaudlincareer · 26/10/2020 12:04

In Wales and sympathise..what a bonkers world we live in !

ChristmasinJune · 26/10/2020 12:07

Also, unless you're strongly against the idea, check out a few large local churches. They often do free craft type activities (maybe on zoom this year though?) as an alternative to Halloween.

I know the Cathedral's offering tours and children's activities but again I know it's difficult to get over without a car.

Peace43 · 26/10/2020 12:07

We are in Welsh lockdown. Stay home except for a walk for exercise from your own home or essentials shopping. I agree, it’s shit. We’ve done craft this morning, pumpkins and baking over the weekend. Normally I love school holidays but it’s tough to keep the fun up when we are stuck in doors. It’s a wet walk later.

nosswith · 26/10/2020 12:07

Perfectly reasonable to be fed up.

You are on the Wirral OP. Perhaps let your MP Esther McVey know your feelings if she is your MP, though of course she condones child neglect being an apologist for the McCanns. If the sensible thing had been done and universities not returned in person last month, I doubt anywhere would now be in Tier 3.

DSsnmum · 26/10/2020 12:20

In Greater Manchester here. It’s not even just raining, it is torrential. Got 3 DC, aged 4 and 3 year old twins. It’s hard to go somewhere where I can manage them on my own and my DD has special needs and lots of sensory issues which dictates a lot of what we can do. No money for trips out either. So fed up now, we shielded all summer and soon as that was over GM went into restrictions so been like this since March for us. Losing the will with it all now!

LindaEllen · 26/10/2020 12:22

DSS was supposed to go to his mum's this half term (she lives near you!) and to be honest I was looking forward to the break, as he's been 'working from home' for weeks because college have had them remote learning, but it's like every second is a battle trying to make him do anything, it's just exhausting, and he asks literally every day whether he can go out to see his mates, having a go at me when I say no because 'we've not got fucking covid'.

His mum has it, so he can't go for the week. The weather is atrocious so he can't even go out for walks (not that he would choose to do this anyway) and he still can't go to see his mates. So I agree that half term in tier 3 is crap, and I'm feeling seriously down that the break I've been so looking forward to (and we ALL needed it after being stuck in the house with a grumpy and sweary 17yo) now can't happen, and by the time her isolation is up it'll be term time again.

Hugs to all of you.

starrynight19 · 26/10/2020 12:26

It’s really hard all of this.
I have one dd who is self isolating on her second week this week. Feel mean on her if I take my other dd out as she is really struggling with it. Her second lot of isolation this term and we have had lots of tears.
We in tier 3 area.

SomewhereEast · 26/10/2020 12:45

YANBU. We're in T1 for now, for which I am truly grateful. Just thankful we're not in Wales Grin.

TheGreatWave · 26/10/2020 12:47

Tier 2 and it is just shit, took a week off work for this as well, my holiday year is November to October so I had no other option than to be off.

DD (8)has had a list of ideas of things to do from school, but the whole having to book a timed slot everywhere puts me off as it just adds another layer to the stress of getting there, then there is the mask wearing, weather is rubbish so even any outdoor parts are not going to be enjoyable.

As others have said we are also tired of house activities, we have done that for months already.

IPeedInThePool · 26/10/2020 14:53

Luckily the rain has stayed off for a bit so used the chance to throw them in the garden and helped me with some gardening ready for winter .... going to bake a jam coconut sponge soon for after tea.

😒 😤

OP posts:
TheGreatWave · 26/10/2020 16:59

Enjoy your sponge. Whilst googling for ideas for school work (making nature potions) I came across this - some are a bit uninspired, some are about Christmas Shock but a few good ideas.

“You are on the Wirral OP. Perhaps let your MP Esther McVey know your feelings if she is your MP...”

Wirral got rid of Esther McVey in 2015 😁

Wish I was on the Wirral now - my parents live there but I can’t go and see them because Tier 3 ☹️. Granted, it’s not a lot of fun in the rain. Wellies, macs and off to Red Rocks for a splash?

HulaHoop2012 · 26/10/2020 17:13

I’m in Northern Ireland we are on week 2 of our “extended mid-term break” 😩🤪

Eliza72 · 26/10/2020 17:26

I'm in a low area, but need to self isolate from the track and trace app. Finding it very hard with everyone around me doing fun half term stuff and I'm not allowed to leave the house..aarrgghh!!

MyMushroomsInATimeSlip · 26/10/2020 17:31

Another one here with an isolating child. I'm a lone parent so can't go anywhere either.
We are doing whatever it takes to get through each day and crossing off days on a big calendar every evening

userxx · 26/10/2020 17:37

crossing off days on a big calendar every evening

You might be onto something there, a lockdown calendar might make things more bearable 🤷‍♂️

ssd · 26/10/2020 17:51

I'm so sorry people. My kids are grown but it was hard enough when they were wee without this crap. My heart goes out to you all.

GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 26/10/2020 17:54

Low area here but one of the family having to self-isolate during half term.

Those in Wales don't be too despondent, this may mean you have lower cases for Christmas.

Wet holidays are always shit but 2020 has achieved a new level of shitness.
