am I or Dh being unreasonable about internal doors not fully closed

I'm prepared to be told I am so here goes.

We have long pile carpets so doors don't "swing" as such. I tend to just push a door and then walk away, To be honest, it doesn't bother me and its an effort to remember as the first 20 years of my life were specifically spent leaving internal doors open so the cats and dogs didn't start howling at closed doors.

"DH" has a thing about doors being made to be shut. The one that drives him nuts is the one to the laundry cupboard. I put laundry in the basket and just push it behind me - and its always slightly ajar. This for some reason gives him the rage.

He's now threatening to take the door off the hinges if I don't learn to close it because there's no point in having it. Except it is closed its just off the latch.

So,

AIBU - I should make the effort to close the door even though its not something I actually think or bother about

AINBU - its a bloody door

If it's zero effort for OP to shut it, then it's also zero effort for her husband to do so.

I would be very fucked off at being micromanaged in my own home, OP.

And surely if he took on all the laundry, yhis problem would never arise.

RiseUpWiseUpEyesUp · 26/10/2020 08:04

YABU, it’s just a small thing, and I’m sure he changes some of his behaviours if they annoy you? If I do something that annoys my husband I want him to tell me because I want him to be comfortable in our home and vice versa.

However HIVU to threaten to take the door off, that is oddly controlling and not the right way to go about it at all.

callmeadoctor · 26/10/2020 08:09

Yes, I would close the door if its irritating him. The taking the door off comment is something I would say to DH so I don't think thats controlling.

JamminDoughnuts · 26/10/2020 08:13

he needs to shave the bottom of the doors.

TheArchFear · 26/10/2020 08:23

Talking of bottoms. He needs to remove the stick from his.

As does everyone here who would get angry over a door.

Close it yourself.

AhoyMeFarties · 26/10/2020 08:48

I have a very strong opinion on this , it’s my pet subject
Doors should be fully open or clicked shut , leaving them ajar so they softly tap tap tap the frame should be made illegal
HTH Grin

JamminDoughnuts · 26/10/2020 08:53

the low cupboard doors might be a trip hazard if left ajar

DoorWars · 26/10/2020 13:24

Ok. I get in unreasonable but this is what we’re talking about

That would actually annoy me more than leaving it wide open 😂
DynamoKev · 26/10/2020 13:42

Boatonthehorizon · 26/10/2020 13:52

If anyone had a go at me about that door 'not' being closed I really couldn't put up with it.
That door is closed. It isn't open. If he is so OCD he can't stand it then he should get help.

callmeadoctor · 26/10/2020 15:29

Ahhhhhhh, that would make me cross Grin

EmeraldShamrock · 26/10/2020 17:49

Tell him to close it as he's passing if it bothers him so much.
You are probably in & out of there many times in the day.
Yes you could just pull the handle down to shut it every time.
I wouldn't I'd tell him to chill out or hone in on his annoying habit Wink
Does he leave toothpaste on the sink?
