to remind any Tory MPs on here that there is a reason people are having a go at you and it's not Angela Rayner's fault

MPs shouldn't be facing abuse on the streets.
Even if their actions are despicable and cause real harm to people
Even if their language, their tweets, their speeches in Parliament, media comments cause harm and belittle other groups.
They shouldn't face abuse.

But if you signed a letter because you think that being called 'scum' by Angela Rayner during the debate on Free School Meals resulted in abuse on the streets, then you seriously don't understand people.

There is a reason that people are calling Tory MPs scum because of their vote on FSM. And it's not Angela Rayner.

What do you think the reason is?

15:51Viviennemary I was starting to regret voting Tory. Now after Angela Rayner I know why I won't be voting Labour any time soon. I don't think she's the type of person I'd want representing me. She doesn't do Labour or herself any favours.

@Viviennemary and how did you feel about Jacob Rees-Mogg blaming the victims of Grenfell for following the emergency services instructions? I know I wouldn't want him representing me.

GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 24/10/2020 22:55

Crankley That anyone imagines Tory MPs avidly read Mumsnet is hysterical. Everyone knows MN is a vehicle for left wing, woke, virtue signallers

All those bloody Mumsnetters who think hungry children should be fed during a national crisis! Scum the lot of them!

How do you feel about being represented by someone like Nicky Morgan, who openly stated on Newsnight that another politician being rude affected her voting on an issue like this?

Not her beliefs on the issue, not what she thinks is best for her constituents or country, but that someone being rude to another MP meant she voted against something she previously agreed with?

MoonJelly · 25/10/2020 00:42

@derxa

Are you trying to excuse Angela Rayner from the fact that she used unparliamentary language in the House of Commons? The Tories who signed that letter ... well I have plenty of words worse than scum. The quality of MPs at the moment is very poor
She's apologised, that should be the end of it.

This letter is blatant opportunism by the idiots who signed it. The suggestion that no-one would think they were scum but for Angela Rayner is utterly risible.

For once, MN seems to be in tune with public opinion

A Deltapoll survey for today's Mail on Sunday found 71 per cent of voters support Rashford's campaign, with 18 per cent opposed

I wonder how many of those 71% voted Tory. Hypocrites.
We already knew what the Tories are like, before the election. The UK is now a land of food banks thanks to them. The fact that food banks even exist in the UK should bring shame on every single one of us.

I thought this thread was about AR calling an MP scum?
chomalungma · 25/10/2020 09:31

I thought this thread was about AR calling an MP scum

This thread is about Tory MPs thinking that they are being called scum just because of AR and not because they voted against giving children FSM vouchers over holidays during a pandemic.
