To offer to go to the bar and buy every teacher a drink?

Greetings, salutations and congratulations to every teacher who made it to half term with their health and sanity semi-intact.

AIBU to say that if I wasn't a poor single parent living on a 0.4fte salary I would go to the bar and offer to buy every single one of you a drink.

Well fucking done! Make sure you get at least a couple of days solid no school work rest.

Even if the bashers still think we're lazy, workshy, overpaid marxists we know the actual realities of what we've ploughed through this term!

Give yourself a huge pat on the back and a large drink/slice of cake/netflix binge/insert your unhealthy reward of choice!

You're amazing. Don't let the bastards get you down.

How much do these people hate us yet entrust their kids to us???

No one hates teachers, they just tire of self congratulatory bullshit like this thread. And they're jealous of your holidays.

TheHoneyBadger · 23/10/2020 21:12

Still 19% of voters think it's unreasonable to say well done and want to buy a drink for my colleagues.

That's 1 in 5 mums - let's hope that's not representative or kids decling behaviour is going to decline 'exponentially' with that 'r number'.

Thanks @ultrababy, I hope tomorrow is a better day.

Whyhellodaffodil · 23/10/2020 21:14

Cheers Wine and thanks so very much to all the teachers and school support staff out there - you’re all amazing Flowers

They could apply for a school job themselves if they want the holidays and are willing to contend with some very difficult behaviour for peanuts 😂
TheHoneyBadger · 23/10/2020 21:16

oh ouch. I hope you give yourself and your colleagues a pat on the back too when you've had an incredibly difficult period at work.

I hope everyone does.

Nurses being miserable wouldn't make me happier and I can't see why school staff supporting each other and recognising their efforts this half term would make you unhappy.

Pat yourself on the back, praise and thank your colleagues and do your best to support them. It's incredibly helpful and encouraging in difficult times to stick together.

lovely to see people patting themselves on the back

That's NOT what is going on here. Just some tired, drained people acknowledging that they're tired and drained.
Reading a thread you're not enjoying isn't compulsory.

Popcornismandatory · 23/10/2020 21:17

Clinks glass to all the teachers 👍🥂🍻

Daphnise · 23/10/2020 21:18

Self congratulation?

Fair point, if MN has too much of anything it's threads praising teachers.

MrsHamlet · 23/10/2020 21:20

@IdkickJilliansass

I never clapped, I do my bit for the NHS by not voting Tory amongst other things 😂
And so say all of us!
Shieldingending · 23/10/2020 21:20

As a teacher THANK YOU so much!
Two of my colleagues have resigned today which leaves 2 classes without a teacher after half term. To read a lovely post like yours OP is heartwarming Flowers

ImAGummyBear · 23/10/2020 21:20

A massive cheer for all you amazing people working in schools- from the top to the bottom- well done you all... for doing the bloody hard work you do daily but even more in these exceptional circumstances.
You have kept us sane in my house, kids in school, at least the one normality in crazy times. I am in awe of all you wonderful people. Have one (or more) on me Grin

IdkickJilliansass · 23/10/2020 21:20

I am proud of myself, I don’t want to detail what I personally have been through this term but think you can do this job 😂😂😂 you can take it!

Grin yeah it's endless. MN is like the centre of teacher 'arse-kissing'

Thank You! Will do! 😊

ImAGummyBear · 23/10/2020 21:21

I now wish I'd thanked my DCs teachers properly today to show my appreciation... maybe after the half term

Dugee · 23/10/2020 21:24

I'll chip in for a round. Dniece really struggled with lockdown and was then distraught about going back to school in September, her teacher has gone out of her way to be kind and help her settle back in.

Cheers and enjoy your well earned break!

nibdedibble · 23/10/2020 21:26

Can’t believe some folk wouldn’t buy their kids teachers a drink! I’d do that for mines in a normal year! Seriously, it’s been flippin tough, thanks yous.

Tyranttoddler · 23/10/2020 21:27

This half term has been insane, but what an absolute joy it is to have the children back. I mean that. I've just moved from a very difficult school to a very leafy school. The pressures are crazy. I have taught both online and in person simultaneously and it has been MAD and brilliant. Kids are ace. Cheers to all of you marvellous school staff. Only 5 more half terms to do 😂

raddledoldmisanthropist · 23/10/2020 21:27

Yeah, lovely to see people patting themselves on the back.

I just feel sorry for people who post stuff like this. I think life must be pretty shit when you want to piss on everyone else's chips to this extent.

TheHoneyBadger · 23/10/2020 21:34

Yep. Those of us who've been in it and will be back in it in 9 days time for the proper winter season have a big old bonfire that all the pissy buggers piss can't dampen.

We have done well. I don't think the government even really expected us to turn up, dig in and get through it but most of us did.

IdkickJilliansass · 23/10/2020 21:35

We have done bloody well and why not celebrate that and each other.

Wnikat · 23/10/2020 21:36

Thank you to all the teachers, from the bottom of my heart.

Gellert · 23/10/2020 21:40

An 8 weeker is always tough. An 8 week Autumn 1 is hellish (Reception Class). 8 weeks + Autumn 1 + global pandemic = levels of exhaustion (mentally tired more than physically) I've not experienced in many, many years!!!
Well done to all school staff, whatever your role,it was a tough one, but we did it!
