Greetings, salutations and congratulations to every teacher who made it to half term with their health and sanity semi-intact.

AIBU to say that if I wasn't a poor single parent living on a 0.4fte salary I would go to the bar and offer to buy every single one of you a drink.

Well fucking done! Make sure you get at least a couple of days solid no school work rest.

Even if the bashers still think we're lazy, workshy, overpaid marxists we know the actual realities of what we've ploughed through this term!

Give yourself a huge pat on the back and a large drink/slice of cake/netflix binge/insert your unhealthy reward of choice!

You're amazing. Don't let the bastards get you down.

Definitely - well done to all teachers out there, and especially those on MN who have to listen to a constant litany of teacher-bashing from poorly educated fuckwits.

DS's pre-school teachers will be getting extra-nice gift vouchers for Christmas, they're all bloody hard workers and lovely to boot.

HavelockVetinari · 23/10/2020 19:23

(I would of course buy them wine/cake but there's always someone who doesn't drink, is on a diet or coeliac etc. so gift vouchers it is - impersonal but practical)

TheEmpressOfUtterBastardry · 23/10/2020 19:26

Terrific thread OP. I couldn't agree more. My dd's school has been brilliant and we even got an email today from one subject teacher praising her for her attainment and effort. The headteacher emails every few days updating parents.
Thank you, all of you. We all owe you x

PracticingPerson · 23/10/2020 19:28

I agree, I got quite weepy yesterday, I sent some thank yous but it felt like it wasn't enough.

I don't even want full time school, I wanted part time, but it doesn't mean I'm not bloody impressed and grateful at how hard they've worked.

What a refreshing change. What an absolutely bonkers half term. We have been working with less than half staff this week and they will all have to isolate through their half term.
It’s been very difficult but I have loved seeing the children. It’s been so hard for them being constantly in and out of school but they have been amazing.
But am so ready for the break. I have one dc who has managed to dodge any isolation this half term and another who has been more out than in. But their teachers have worked so hard teaching them at home whilst teaching their classes in school.
Well done to every person who contributes to schools it’s been tough FlowersCake

I work in a school and am particularly in awe of the midday supervisors. They run a military style operation day in day out to avoid 'bubbles' mixing in the dining hall. They do it with great humour and patience, masks, a lot of hand sanitizer and surface cleaner and a megaphone Grin

seriousandloyal · 23/10/2020 19:44

Thank you OP, cheers to you too!

Quizeerascal · 23/10/2020 19:44

Theres also a fab team of learning support assistants who also worked incredibly hard with the most vulnerable children over lockdown, pints all round!

Haenow · 23/10/2020 19:51

YA(only)BU because you missed out all the other people who keep schools ticking over. Wine and Chocolate

MrsHerculePoirot · 23/10/2020 19:54

Well done team school - each and everyone who has worked in one this half term is amazing. 💪

I’ll be getting the shots in for everyone later...

noblegiraffe · 23/10/2020 20:01

Happy half term to everyone. It's been bonkers and I know the kids really need a break too.

If we're doing cocktails, mine's a mojito. Cheers! 🍷

IamChipmunk · 23/10/2020 20:01

Im a secondary teacher and have managed to crawl through this week.
I spoke to my dcs reception teacher when i dropped off at breakfast club this morn and she was perky as ever. She was my sons reception teacher too and im still in awe of her endless energy, patience and general smiley lovelyness 2 years on.
I walked in the door and opened a bottle of prosecco today!
Happy half term and big up all the teachers and school staff out there!

IdkickJilliansass · 23/10/2020 20:11

And school support staff please 😭😭

ultrababy · 23/10/2020 20:15

Meanwhile the rest of us frontline key workers will just suck it up and get on with it as usual.

Home educating the youngest, but my eldest's teachers are absolutely amazing and I want to find out how to nominate one particular staff member for going beyond everything for us.

I'm hoping we can send a huge hamper of tea, coffee and biscuits in, in December. It's nothing in the grand scheme of things and doesn't fix any issues but I worked in education myself and the thought from the wonderful students and parents meant so much.

Lovely idea 💡

Wine especially for you, support staff. Enjoy your break. :)

DreamingofBrie · 23/10/2020 20:27

So relieved it's half term.

It's been great being with the children again but myself and my colleagues are knackered. Cheers to all school staff out there tonight Gin.

Mogtheforgetfulmum · 23/10/2020 20:30

This thread has made me feel SO emotional!! Thank you so much for starting this! @TheHoneyBadger

This is the first half term break that I will genuinely really miss seeing my students. Getting to teach them face to face, although exhausting, is priceless and it's made me realise how much I love being in front of a class. Well done everyone! Wine

IdkickJilliansass · 23/10/2020 20:35

Thanks @Haenow, I run the inclusion room so look after all the kids that have been sent out of class and now the lessons are double lessons it’s been mind blowingly challenging

A bit bitter! We can appreciate lots of different types of workers.
ReallyRatherNerdy · 23/10/2020 20:36
