I know we’ve had this thread before, but there’s a barrel-load of infuriatingly shit advertising out there, so I think it’s time for another one Grin

Your starters for ten:

McDonald’s - boy gets his mum’s old car for his birthday. Looks at it like she iced his birthday cake in shit. Eventually decides free car isn’t so bad, blasts out a bit of Westlife and then presents her with a cold box of nuggets - paid for with the change SHE left in the car. Yeah, thanks mum - here’s some cheap fast food YOU paid for! Not even a bloody McFlurry for afters!

Phillips shavers/depilators etc., where everything is a badly-written little poem. ‘If shaving is boring and you can’t be arsed, Phillips hyperblade precision technology will remove stubble fast’.

The new Asda campaign. I know Walmart is selling Asda off, so it’s not a priority brand, but surely they could have afforded more than 46p on the ad budget? Although I think the agency got change.

Go Compare man has a chat with his real-life self. Why do we need a promo for his opera ‘career’ when they’re trying to flog insurance?

I know I’ll think of more...

Just me gritting my teeth through every ad break then? 😬Grin

Shocking Audi ad online last year featuring a thin, v attractive woman in heels falling down, about how some competitors’ cars might look good but break down. Naked misogyny!

RaraRachael · 23/10/2020 13:27

Perf with Surf - is that meant to rhyme as it's just plain irritating

A new one for Hotter shoes - meant to be hip and edgy err..... no it's not and neither are your shoes

Very - it just seems to go on and on and on

I'm sure I'll think of more. Some are only in certain regions. We get some very naff ones in our area that were obviously made on a very small budget

araiwa · 23/10/2020 13:29

All of them

Which is why I rarely watch tv when I can stream it instead

sophs29 · 23/10/2020 13:35

Postcode lottery!
"Someone's knocking on your door" Nope, no they're not so bugger off 😂😂😂

Yesyoudoknowme · 23/10/2020 13:39

Hopping on this thread - has anyone noticed the amount of ads there are creeping in programmes recently? Not so much having more than one break but the amount of ads they cram in - can't recall what we were watching recently but there were like,10 adverts, it went on forever! It is rapidly getting to the stage I will record everything and then FF through them...

My current 'I really hate that' is... actually there are so many I can't pick - ALL car ads that are completely irrelevant (and invariably left hand drive) - Citroen! That's one - Why is the woman talking in a French accent - we all know its a bloody French car... Oh, and Perfume ads. We don't (yet) have smellivision so what the hell is the point - why not save a fortune and say 'Chanel's got another perfume out - go have a sniff at your local chemist'...

Runmybathforme · 23/10/2020 13:44

Perfect with surf ( don’t know if that’s right ), that girl’s voice sets my teeth on edge.
Also , the one for Tena pads where the new Mum thinks post baby incontinence is normal.

sophs29 · 23/10/2020 13:49

@Yesyoudoknowme hahaha I agree about the perfume ones! they don't explain what the perfume smells like 😂 Johnny depp burying his jewellery in a bloody hole in the dessert? how does that tell us what the aftershave is like 😂😂

JimmyJabs · 23/10/2020 13:55

Definitely those "Hands, Face, Space" ones that seem to pop up in every break during Channel 5 programmes (I like the Yorkshire Vet and Friday on the Farm, please don't judge Grin)

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 23/10/2020 14:01

Surprised nobody has mentioned the 'Gotta get them up there girls' tampax advert! Just no reason!
I get periods should not be a taboo subject. Periods are spoken openly about in my home, but this advert makes us all cringe!

RuggerHug · 23/10/2020 14:03

I didn't know oral-b made a toothpaste.

Came on to mention them.
ConcernedAuntie · 23/10/2020 14:07

The cartoon Lifebuoy one. The finger going up the nose and coming down with green stuff. I know we all do it but just..... Bleugh!! I have to shut my eyes. And the song is annoyingly catchy too.

SlopesOff · 23/10/2020 14:20

The incoherent ASDA man with the clockwork child. Low budget, rubbish acting, awful shite.

But the new Lloyds one drives me mad, I used to like the Lloyds ads but now I leave the room or turn the sound off. That version of 'We've only just begun' with half the words missing and sounding like something is wrong with the voice, if they had to use it they could have used the proper (old) version. I absolutely loathe it.

SlopesOff · 23/10/2020 14:21

It is always on when we are eating too, even though it is a cartoon we wince and turn away.
thereisonlyoneofme · 23/10/2020 14:25

I find there is sometimes no break between one ad and the next, Im left wondering what the hell has that got to do with say insurance and theyve segued into a fast food ad!

SlopesOff · 23/10/2020 14:25

Are you watching Sony TV? They put what seems like half and hour of ads in the breaks of Millionaire. Not just time to get a hot drink and nip back, but long enough to load the dishwasher, lock up for the night, wipe the kitchen down, pack the next day's lunches, and also get the hot drink.

MootingMirror · 23/10/2020 14:25

I HATE the Ribena advert where the guy is talking about how much he loves the blackcurrants and cultivates them etc and then a woman butts in and tells him off and patronisingly says "lets get these off to the presser shall we?". I just think "fuck off you patronising bitch". He's passionate about his work and you're making it out to be a bad thing - if it were real and I saw it, I'd report her to her employer - she's literally patronising and bullying him for doing his job well - arsehole.
It really gets under my skin

derxa · 23/10/2020 14:26

Any featuring slimy Phillip Schofield

SlopesOff · 23/10/2020 14:27

But the Ribena bloke is messing about cutting leaves off to make the bushes look perfect and not doing his job, although I do hate the way the woman says Pressahhrr.

butterpuffed · 23/10/2020 14:27

ALL the Nationwide ones

CoralFish · 23/10/2020 14:27

@RuggerHug

I didn't know oral-b made a toothpaste.
This. It's so badly dubbed (and WHY is it even dubbed?) and it drives me mad. And she can't even eat an apple properly (or is that a different advert?)
PattyPan · 23/10/2020 14:29

I actually hate the whole thing of advertising so much that if I see something advertised I deliberately don’t buy it out of spite 😂
I don’t watch tv any more anyway but on the radio the government ones (Covid/Brexit) are particularly irritating. There’s one about wearing masks with a girl who just sounds so snide/bored when she says ‘I wear a mask to protect other passengers’ or whatever it is that is driving me barmy, I don’t understand why they didn’t make her redo it!

SlopesOff · 23/10/2020 14:29

The noisy apple eating woman?
That is a denture glue ad, not Oral B.

Would love to shove that apple down her throat, along with the dentures.

medusawashere · 23/10/2020 14:30

Horrendous adverts at the moment:

  1. Perf with Surf - FUCK OFF!
  2. Lenovo Pants - "I'm a firestarter" - Yes, your ridiculous electronic pants are literally on fire. That stamp at the end as well. I have to turn it off.
  3. Tena Pants - "A little bit of wee won't stop me being me". UGH, also, the shot of her arse as she's doing that little twirl. The actress is gorgeous but I don't "believe" she has issues with post-baby incontinence for a second :D
