I know we’ve had this thread before, but there’s a barrel-load of infuriatingly shit advertising out there, so I think it’s time for another one Grin

Your starters for ten:

McDonald’s - boy gets his mum’s old car for his birthday. Looks at it like she iced his birthday cake in shit. Eventually decides free car isn’t so bad, blasts out a bit of Westlife and then presents her with a cold box of nuggets - paid for with the change SHE left in the car. Yeah, thanks mum - here’s some cheap fast food YOU paid for! Not even a bloody McFlurry for afters!

Phillips shavers/depilators etc., where everything is a badly-written little poem. ‘If shaving is boring and you can’t be arsed, Phillips hyperblade precision technology will remove stubble fast’.

The new Asda campaign. I know Walmart is selling Asda off, so it’s not a priority brand, but surely they could have afforded more than 46p on the ad budget? Although I think the agency got change.

Go Compare man has a chat with his real-life self. Why do we need a promo for his opera ‘career’ when they’re trying to flog insurance?

I know I’ll think of more...

Toothpaste adverts are usually badly dubbed in order for the viewer to notice the lack of synch between the voice and lips moving. Thereby noticing the teeth and mouth area.

CuddlyDudley71 · 23/10/2020 15:14

Women in yogurt ads? Money shot.

DriftGames · 23/10/2020 15:14

Any advert where the actors mouths don't move at the same time as the voiceover, or don't say the same fucking words.

Greyshaggyrug · 23/10/2020 15:14

Go compare 🤦‍♀️

Samcro · 23/10/2020 15:15

the royale(not sure how you spell it) life ones with the cruise singer lady.
I always sit there wondering how much the site fee's are.

Okbye · 23/10/2020 15:18

Like others have already mentioned -
'Perf wiv serf'
And that stupid Tena one where that Anna bird says how she 'fully wet herself' at her friend's house. TMI, need to know. Just no.

TiptopJ · 23/10/2020 15:19

The other one for incontinence knickers where she doesn't realise that underwear could be pretty but she pronounces it pret-ay. Also, they really aren't pretty

GiveMeStrength2day · 23/10/2020 15:20

The Perf with Surf ad girl is Dani Dyer (Danny Dyer's daughter). I always took it that she was being Essex ironic (well jel and all that/TOWIE). Oh, and I live in Essex myself and think it's quite amusing rather than irritating

BlankTimes · 23/10/2020 15:20

I've just asked DD which ads I complain about the most and she said 'All of them.'

I find all of the graphically visual charity ads highly upsetting. I wonder how much money donated to help their causes is being used on TV ads which are hugely expensive. Is it really necessary to see the horrendously awful treatment of animals and children? I switch them all off because they are too disturbing, which I'm sure is not the makers' intention for their intended audience.

Oh and all the daytime ads for equity release, funeral plans and health insurance.

It's hardly any surprise that peoples' MH is on a downturn since lockdown when watching TV when they are bombarded with misery, cruelty and poverty at every ad-break in the daytime. Angry

And the incessant repetition of the ads for the same upcoming TV shows during the whole of the Buffy season.

minipilling · 23/10/2020 15:28

This one seriously gives me the rage.

ghostyslovesheets · 23/10/2020 15:33

Am I the only one who automatically follows 'hi - I'm Philip Schofield' with 'I fuck lobsters for money'?

Sparklesocks · 23/10/2020 15:49

I do market research surveys sometimes and a question I get often is ‘which tv adverts do you like and do you enjoy watching tv adverts’. And the answer is always no! I don’t know anyone who has a fabulous time watching things be sold to them in various annoying ways.

ByeGermsByeWorries · 23/10/2020 15:49

"It's time to use fixodent ad-HEEsive"

Advert with woman eating lindor. I hate mouth closeups especially when the mouths are eating or licking their lips

This is the truest thing ever. I despise those misery adverts and I will not donate to any charity that thinks that's the way to go about getting money from me. I hate them so much - upsetting and not bloody necessary. Likewise the daytime ads. It's just funeral plan after funeral plan after cremation service (yes, fuck off with your dad and his no-fuss cremation!). Also equity release especially by the company called Age Plan. Like that's not a massive scam!
movpov · 23/10/2020 16:17

Can't stand any of them especially ones where someone is shouting excitedly or those long ones for pillows or hair remover or something that go on for ever. Hardly ever watch anything as it's actually being aired; record most things so I can fast forward the ad breaks. If I can't do that then it goes on mute as soon as the ads come on. I have never bought anything because of a tv ad

1Morewineplease · 23/10/2020 16:37

That one with the lady who ends up on wires rapping "Are you gonna bingo?"

All of those ads with meerkats.

And yes, that Oral-B one.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 23/10/2020 16:48

The Sainsbury”Cook up some magic” one enrages me - so twee and Disney.

derxa · 23/10/2020 16:54

Laura Whitmore does it in her ad, then takes a big spoon of cereal in the most unnatural way ever. I hate it when she says 'Cmon Whitmore'. She's insufferable.

Meadow1203 · 23/10/2020 17:00

I hate hate hate the lastest ASDA one.
Oral tooth paste, smug cow
Oh and the Apple eating denture woman
Also notice that every other ad during the day seems to be for over fifties live insurance

ginghamtablecloths · 23/10/2020 17:04

Another one who hates the Postcode lottery - it's the shrieking which gets me so I automatically mute the telly for every ad break.

Zilla1 · 23/10/2020 17:07

Pregnant woman being driven to maternity unit by coercive controlling partner being coercive in several ways, was it Grandland? Ends with 'just wait while I unnecessarily reverse into a parking space so you know who'd in charge'.

sst1234 · 23/10/2020 17:08

All the nonsense ones where they are trying to be soppy and sentimental as though it’s a public service. Namely nationwide and Lloyds. We want good service and competitive prices from businesses, not this sentimental bullshit about being by your side.

nevermorelenore · 23/10/2020 17:08

I don't watch much live tv at all now so avoid the worst of it. But I hate when you are using a paid streaming service, yet still have to sit through an ad for some shite. Like I'll be watching Amazon Video and they'll force me to watch a trailer for some crap comic book adaption that I'd never be interested in. I'm paying a tenner a month for this!

Also, ads with chomping. I have misophonia and the summer is a nightmare with those cracking Magnum adverts. When does a Magnum ever sound like that? Agh!

Zilla1 · 23/10/2020 17:10

sst, I loathe the awful performance poetry Nationwide ones. The black horse of doom is surely intended to discourage customers from banking with Lloyds isn't it?

frustrationcentral · 23/10/2020 17:10

Where to start?!

Asda advert - I'm not sure I've ever felt such hatred for a set of adverts as much as I do for these

Tampax - get it up there gurls!!

Purple bricks - shite adverts
