Teacher gave Nephew a bag of kale. AIBU to think this is strange?

Was speaking to my nephew last night, and he proudly showed me a bag of kale his teacher had given him...

He’s at secondary school; and apparently it was a prize for winning the tutor competition. He picked a prize out of a hat and ended up with the gag prize.

Honestly not making this up. AIBU to think this is a bit weird?

If you read the original post he picked the prize out of a hat and got the kale, it wasn’t the only prize but I bet the kale was better than a pencil or pen. Decades ago, when I was doing my teaching practice, there was a headteacher who used stroking his beard as a reward and listening to him play the violin as a punishment. Now that was weird.
