To want everyone to know the names of the MPs who voted against feeding hungry children?

Remember Marcus Rashford and his campaign to extend free school meals? Yesterday all but a handful of Tory MPs voted against extending free school meals over the school holidays until Easter 2021. You can see if your MP is amongst them here: votes.parliament.uk/Votes/Commons/Division/896#noes

Whatever your thoughts on what parents should be doing some children are going to go hungry. Why punish the children because of the sins of the parent? And remember most people on benefits are in work.

Plus there is a bloody pandemic. We’re in unprecedented times. People who were just about managing are now on the bones of their arse.

We have billions to spaff up the wall on a useless test and trace system, or useless Ppe but we can’t feed a few hungry kids. And le’t not forget that the MPs voting against this get subsidised meals and can claim for their food on expenses.

A familiar face trolling the Tories. I won't break site rules and link, but sure you can find it and donate as much as you can to ensure your Tory MP is kept in the style to which they have become accustomed.

The vote to refuse 'free school meals' to British children over the upcoming school holidays showed us that on the whole, MPs from the Conservative Party are not afraid to make major decisions that although unpopular, are also for the greater good of the United Kingdom. We cannot have our hard-earned money being used to 'nationalise children' when the harsh reality is that we have other priorities to fund, such as 'Test and Trace' and renewing Trident.

Therefore, it's time for the British people to shown their gratitude for this valuable reminder that parents have to start taking responsibility for their own children and putting a little aside for emergencies.

I am raising £20,000 to send a luxury Christmas gift hamper to every single Conservative MP this festive season. I want every single one of them to know just how much their efforts have been appreciated in these incredibly worrying times.

Please help me spread some cheer this December to those who must be feeling unloved.

*IMPORTANT LEGAL NOTE: I will be handling all of the donated funds personally, and my Santander Mobile Banking app has been playing up a lot since I dropped my iPhone down the toilet last week. The touch screen has well and truly had it, and for some reason every time I try to move money into the dedicated account I have set up for this hamper appeal, the money actually ends up going to the Essex Coronavirus Action Urgent Food Bank Appeal - a fundraiser that provides micro grants to food banks all over the county of Essex to stock up on essential products or meet unavoidable running costs.

Naturally I will be able to fix this when I get a new iPhone, but I am having a bugger of a time deciding between the Rose Gold iPhone 12 Pro Max and the Space Grey iPhone 12 Pro Max and no matter what I do, I simply can't make my mind up. Massive decisions like this cannot be rushed however ...*

I'll make a donation to that fund, I'll donate precisely what I think my MP is worth and not a penny more.

I donated £5 because I like the idea of it going to Essex Coronavirus Action Urgent Food Bank Appeal

My husband personally knows one of them and she's a practising Christian.

Lovely Hmm

Your child is eligible for free school meals if you get:
Income Support
income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
income-related Employment and Support Allowance
support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)

You write in very emotive language OP 'voted against feeding hungry children'. So the children of everyone on the above benefits are going hungry, are they?

IMO the best way to support those families who don't have enough money to pay their bills is through the benefits system, not meal vouchers. Even the Labour government didn't extend free school meals to the holidays.

ConfusedcomMum · 23/10/2020 17:08

Thankfully, our borough's Labour council will be providing meals to FSM children over the holidays.

Acerred · 23/10/2020 17:14

Even the Labour government didn't extend free school meals to the holidays.

The Labour government weren't in power during the worst pandemic since 1968 when people were furloughed or had their hours reduced or lost their jobs.

Barnowl25 · 23/10/2020 17:24

I am amazed my MP voted for free meals - he is conservative and pretty bloody useless. Still waiting for a reply to me email about why he voted for food imports from USA which will directly affect our farmers.

annabel85 · 23/10/2020 17:24

@Xiaoxiong

annabel this is what my Danish au pair said to me earlier this year when we were doing a virtual LAJOG run to raise money for our local children's hospice. Why on earth does it rely on individuals to do this, why isn't it funded by taxation. She said in Denmark there isn't the same culture of things like food banks, medical research and hospices funded by charity, because the state funds those things. They pay a bit more in tax but it's less per month than many people donate to charity, and it spreads it out more fairly so eg. you don't get millions paid to one kind of cancer research and very little paid to another just because they aren't so good at fundraising.

I donate a lot to charity, but it did make me pause to think...the "big society" is in effect shifting the burden from the state to individual efforts via charity.

If all charities stopped for a month then thousands and thousands of people would just starve. Also a lot of homeless shelters and things are charity led, so there'd be thousands and thousands more people sleeping rough on the street. That's how essential they are.

We all owe huge gratitude to charities, but if the above happened then the government would be compelled to do something rather than leave it to philanthropy, charity or even celebrities like Rashford to prop up a broken system.

They're relying on well meaning people to stop thousands of people in Britain literally starving or having nowhere to sleep at night.

Sounds like she needs a lot more practice. Maybe every day, not just Sundays ?
Snaketime · 23/10/2020 17:42

Its disgusting. My MP voted against, so angry.

tinkywinkyshandbag · 23/10/2020 17:59

Mine isn't and frankly I'm amazed!

cantdothisnow1 · 23/10/2020 18:10

Our local Tory Councillor who has the Education seat is Christian and apparently doesn't believe in autism or that there should be spending on SEND.

Apparently it should go on the gifted and talented children instead (i,e, her children).

She is vile.

All MPs were given an additional £10000 for expenses due to the covid pandemic. The rules for providing receipts for purchases was also very strangely removed as was the single item limit. Going on past track records I wonder how many took advantage. I'm sure my MP has.[/quote]
Mine definitely did. His expenses shot up like a rocket in April. He’s a multi millionaire.

Did I say that all children on FSM were going hungry? I don’t know how much you think benefits are but the vast majority will be on a tight budget at best, and choosing between heating and eating at worst. In any event one hungry child is one too many.

Labour not extending FSM when not in a pandemic is not really an argument against doing it now.

@WrongKindOfFace thank you for sharing this - everyone in the country should see the break down of votes on this.

Says it all about this Government. No social conscience.

The Tory MP from my area of course voted against extending free school meals over the holidays when the country is in crisis.

knickybricks · 23/10/2020 19:43

So how does it work? - Our Tory MP is so busy with other paid consultancy work (conflict of interst?) , he doesn't have time to reply to his constituents, so he needs to employ someone to reply on his behalf and then gets to reclaim those costs. What crazy shit is this? He moonlights and we pick up the tab!

Ginfordinner · 23/10/2020 19:51

The (Labour) MP in the next constituency has been posting his anger and disappointment on social media at the government's stance on this. Our local council, and so many local businesses are stepping up to provide meals for the children who need them.

Unfortunately the shit Tory party will just rely on the goodwill of people like this and carry on ignoring the plight of the needy Sad

HeIenaDove · 23/10/2020 20:04

I see Not So Cleverly is on there Quelle surprise.

This is hardly going to help self isolation either.

Who, in a low income job is going to self isolate now, now they KNOW their kids will be left to go hungry should they lose their job.

Clavinova · 23/10/2020 20:06

All MPs were given an additional £10000 for expenses due to the covid pandemic. The rules for providing receipts for purchases was also very strangely removed as was the single item limit.

"IPSA said: 'If you do not have access to a receipt or invoice, but cannot wait for reimbursement, we will pay claims without evidence and ask you to send in the evidence as soon as you can.'

Buddytheelf85 · 23/10/2020 20:08

Controversial opinion: charities are the Tories enablers.

Charities are essential and do a great job but they allow the Tories to get away with it.

You’re not wrong. It plays into the small state bullshit.

Ding123 · 23/10/2020 20:12

My local MP voted no. But then I already knew.he would because he very rarely votes against his Tory party!

We live in a highly deprived area which more or less never came out of local lockdown, and currently tier 3. Food banks are chaotic (DH helps run one and stretched to the limit) as so many people are in need. Worst thing is the MP is also a governor at my DC's school and fully aware of how many fsm children we have.
