I have come to realise that when I see people not wearing masks, it doesn't bother me nearly as much as when I see people wearing masks, but doing so incorrectly. If they're not wearing it, there may be good reasons. They may just be making a stand. Whatever, at least it's a decision. But the half hearted, '"cover my mouth but not my nose" mask wearers send me into a rage and it's all I can do not to snap sarcastic comments at them...... There's a woman on the school run who insists on wearing a mask outside in a sort of "look at me" way but... it doesn't cover her nose so what is the bloody point!?

Argh. And breath. I'm fully aware that getting this wound up about this is not in any way productive, helpful or necessary. But stupidity of this sort offends me.

Yep, I work in retail so see numerous variations on the mask wearing, ranges from missing the nose, covering the chin, hanging on one ear whilst on a mobile, the best is wearing on the head....oh actually its the people who feel the need to take the mask off to talk to me..leave it on people!

SimplyPizza · 20/10/2020 11:25

You’d still be moaning if they weren’t wearing a mask at all, so YABU.

I see people not wearing masks quite often. At most, I eye roll. But mostly I figure they've got a reason. even if I'm fully aware many of the reasons are ones I'd consider bad! Grin

YABU.
If people don’t bother at all then they can claim exemption of challenged so probably nobody will challenge them. If they’re doing it in a half-arsed way then they can be challenged by sufficiently motivated security guards.

Also, annoying though it is to see people with their noses hanging out of their masks, it is better than wearing nothing if they’re talking or coughing.

Sparklesocks · 20/10/2020 11:38

Was in Tesco this morning and saw someone pull down their mask to cough, which was a bit worrying!

Samcro · 20/10/2020 11:40

i can't get over the thickness of people.
how can they not realise it needs to be over your nose as well
??? how can people be that stupid.

HavelockVetinari · 20/10/2020 11:40

YANBU. Covid has exposed a lot of fecking eejits about the place.

LemonBreeland · 20/10/2020 11:42

YANBU, I'm the same, find the ones wearing one but not properly a lot more irritating than the ones who don't wear one at all.

TheSockMonster · 20/10/2020 11:43

Some will be stupid.

Some will be people who are exempt from mask wearing but decide that a poorly worn mask is better than no mask at all.

missmouse101 · 20/10/2020 11:44

Yanbu. I agree OP. But you are being vvvvv U to write 'and breath.' (Rhymes with death.) Surely you mean 'and breathe?' (Rhymes with seethe.)

Barryisland · 20/10/2020 11:45

Yes you are bu. Mind your own business.

Samcro · 20/10/2020 11:47

its is other people business. the masks are in place to stop the spread. people need to wear them correctly. its not hard.
Srictlybakeoff · 20/10/2020 11:49

YANBU. It gives me the rage . I politely asked a woman ahead of me in the queue at the supermarket to pull her mask up over her nose. She shouted at me and said I was being unfair because some people weren’t even wearing masks. Some folk have no clue

PatchworkElmer · 20/10/2020 11:54

Bloke in the GP waiting area was loudly performance parenting his DC last week. With a mask not covering his nose. I was much more irritated by the performance parenting because of the stupid mask situation 😂

Shayisgreat · 20/10/2020 12:13

@sparklesocks 😂😂 Oh dear!

Yeah I feel like people who half wear masks just don't get the point and show themselves up to be a bit thick. Or they are just a bit selfish as wearing masks over your nose is kind of uncomfortable.

JovialNickname · 20/10/2020 12:18

I am one of these people. I wear the same disposable mask until it falls to pieces, don't store it properly and will wear it under my nose if I can get away with it. This is because I am not wearing a mask out of choice; I am wearing it because I am being forced to by our government. I am not able to make a stand and not wear one because I cannot afford to be fined (thanks to lockdown I am on benefits now, despite being a healthy able bodied person who wants to work). So in answer to your question people don't wear masks properly because they don't want to. Forcing the population to do something (especially something with negligible if any benefit) means there are a large proportion of peoplethat are unlikely to do it with good grace!

Rosebel · 20/10/2020 12:27

At least they are wearing one and I guess it will offer some protection. I get far more annoyed by people not wearing them. I can't believe how many people all of a sudden have a hidden disability. I know some do but think a lot more just can't be bothered or think Covid is a myth (!!).

CupoTeap · 20/10/2020 12:27

Op i agree - defo makes me Angry when it's worn wrongly, I know it annoys me more than it should.

But surely not wearing a face mask properly is leaving you as open to a fine as not wearing one at all?!

Do you refuse to wear a seatbelt too, because it's required by law and might save your and someone else's life??

I agree with you @SpaceOP - at least if someone's not wearing one there is the assumption that they're exempt. Half-heartedly wearing one is a total two fingers up to the rest of the population who are trying not to catch a disease that might kill us or our nearest and dearest.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 20/10/2020 12:31

YANBU. The last person I saw doing this was a chemist, at work in the chemist. Everytime she went to the back to get a prescription she would pull it under her chin to talk to her colleagues (who kept theirs on) then pull it back up over her mouth but not her nose when coming to deal with customers Confused. Surely one of her colleagues should say something to her about that!

We have been told continuously that we should wear masks "to protect others, not ourselves". So essentially you don't give a fuck? I don't think masks do much good, and I absolutely hate wearing them. I'm pregnant and they make me feel faint and I struggle to breath properly after about 15 mins, but I just get on with it.
hula008 · 20/10/2020 12:35

Whilst I do appreciate the frustration, wearing over only your mouth does provide more benefit than not at all.

there's always one on mn, ffs does it really matter in the grand scheme of things ? do you challenge people in rl about pronouncation ? no, probably not because it is rude to do so in the first place with the written word or spoken. sorry op just venting , as you were...
JalapenoDave · 20/10/2020 12:39

YANBU at all OP - this proper grinds my gears too. Don't understand why people go to the effort getting a mask, putting it on...then wearing it below the nose! I am so tempted to say something to people I see who wear it incorrectly but fear of getting punched shuts me up 😂

UnRavellingFast · 20/10/2020 12:39

Also the ppl who walk around with a mask dangling from their ear. Why?! It irritates me in the same way- and I am BU here I realise- that drivers who carry their parking ticket in their mouths as they drive round the multi storey car park!
