to think that peeing gallons of blood & having a fever is an emergency?

I've a history of urinary tract infections progressing to kidney infections since I was about 3 years old. 18 years ago I was diagnosed with bladder cancer, but following treatment it has been in remission since then.

After an extremely stressful life experience I had what I thought was yet another urinary tract infection but yesterday it progressed to blood literally pouring out of me whenever I urinate, and I'm having to urinate at least once every 20 minutes. During the night I counted the number of times I had to get up to pee it was 21 times. And each time I peed blood my urine is quite intense red, and it is EXCRUCIATINGLY painful. I am shivering and sweating. I called 111 and they told me a "local service" would call me back. The local service was this awful rude woman who told me to just drink lots of water and to try to get a GP appointment later this year and just kept asking me if I have friends and a support system. She was so rude and eventually hung up on me.

The last time I had these symptoms I ended up with a serious kidney infection and hospitalised for several days. Clearly I need antibiotics.
Am I to just sit here getting progressively more ill?

Ring 999 OP honestly, you need urgent medical care

I really hope you're ok

Trying2Heal · 19/10/2020 11:50

@Sewrainbow. Holy shit, I am terrified. This woman who hung up on me has now seemingly thought better of it and called back to say she will try to get me a telephone appointment with my GP practice and call me back today with an appointment.
Maybe I need to forget all that and just get a cab to A & E?

Please do go now

Ninkanink · 19/10/2020 11:50

(You won’t have to wait hours with those symptoms).

As others have said, don’t drive. If there’s no one available to drive call an ambulance.

PumpkinPie2016 · 19/10/2020 11:50

Don't wait for a GP op.

Get yourself to A&E immediately-this is absolutely an emergency.

If you can't drive then get a taxi/friend/neighbour -just explain that it's an emergency.

Trying2Heal · 19/10/2020 11:50

Thank you very much for your warm wishes. I'm bloody scared but I think the time has come to go into hospital

LaLaLandIsNoFun · 19/10/2020 11:50

Another one here saying A&E, now

tara66 · 19/10/2020 11:51

Just go to nearest A and E immediately.

Sexnotgender · 19/10/2020 11:51

Yes just get a cab to A&E. make sure you pack a little bag with phone charger and snacks.

MrMeeseekscando · 19/10/2020 11:51

Another A&E!! Now!

Ninkanink · 19/10/2020 11:52

Reception is often terrible in hospitals, so let someone know where you are.

DuggeeHugs · 19/10/2020 11:52
@Member984815 I've not been to a and e in years. Is it true there's usually a 7 hour wait to see someone?
I took DS to A&E last month after he bashed his head and we didn't have time to sit down between booking in and the triage nurse calling us through. There were only 3 other people there and he was treated and out within 40 minutes.

Go straightaway - get the help you need.

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 19/10/2020 11:52

OP - PLEASE GO TO A&E
I lost a kidney through infection and am also a stone maker. I have been clearly instructed by my urologists (who now only check me for stones once a year) that if I get any pain/bleeding that I think is related to my kidney/renal system, I must not go to the GP but go directly to A&E as delay may cause ultimate kidney failure. They said I shouldn't worry about being wrong in my self diagnosis, it is safer to go to A&E than to delay with such symptoms.

perfumeistooexpensive · 19/10/2020 11:52

This really is an emergency. Get to A&E ASAP. I would be making a complaint about the way you've been treated by 111 once you've had a diagnosis.

Trying2Heal · 19/10/2020 11:52

She has now called back to say my GP is calling me a a priority and will prescribe antibiotics today. She wished me well. What a huge change in attitude.

Powerplant · 19/10/2020 11:54

If you are peeing gallons of blood you need to call an ambulance if it’s now subsided get someone to drive you there. Do not drive yourself. You shouldn’t wait too long at A&E if it’s a medical emergency. Good luck 💐

Trying2Heal · 19/10/2020 11:54

I'm going to take a shower now and get in a cab to A&E.

I honestly would still go to A&E.
RhapsodyandAshe · 19/10/2020 11:55

Glad she realised how wrong she had got it but I would just go straight to a and e with those symptoms. And explain the bladder cancer history.

Sexnotgender · 19/10/2020 11:56

Agree. You’ll be appropriately triaged.

I’ve had multiple emergencies with my daughter and our bum never touched the seats in the waiting area.

ScarMatty · 19/10/2020 11:56

Honestly, in the nicest way, for gods sake just get to A&E.

Rudolphian · 19/10/2020 11:57

I would go straight to a and e

slipperywhensparticus · 19/10/2020 11:57

Good luck in a&e you will go through quite quickly during the day

Chickentraybake · 19/10/2020 11:59

Still go to A & E OP, this exactly what it is there for.

Henio · 19/10/2020 12:00

I had exactly the same symptoms back in January, felt like is was dying no exaggeration. Ended up needing two different types of antibiotics to clear up whatever it was, hope you get the help you need Flowers
