To think this is a total fucking dick move?

Toddler spilled juice on our bed, soaking the duvet and mattress protector.

Both too big for our washing machine so I popped it in the car and headed down to our local supermarket where there's a big automated washer and dryer in the car park.

Shove my stuff through the washer (it fills the 18kg drum completely) and as the timer counts down I'm getting ready to shove it in the dryer.

With the big neon timer showing just two bloody minutes of my wash cycle left, an arsehole of a woman swings her car into the spot next to mine and empties a tiny bag of washing (enough for a standard home tumble dryer or to put on a single aired) into the dryer, sets it to half an hour and waltzes off to the supermarket.

The dryer and washer are a single unit so there's no way she missed my timer showing only two minutes or the fact it was full of bulky bedding.

I have no other way of drying my duvet and mattress protector, which I need dried so I can sleep on tonight.

AIBU to think that was a total dick move on her part?

Won’t it melt your mattress protector? I made the mistake of shoving ours in the TD once.

Where do you live that there is a washing machine & TD in a supermarket car park? I’ve never seen such a set up.

1FootInTheRave · 17/10/2020 17:45

What do you think your washing took priority?

Mbhatescf123 · 17/10/2020 17:45

Well she would have been waiting ages for your duvet cover to dry so I can understand her putting her clothes in and not checking you want to use it. Just wait the half hour and then bung it in x

1FootInTheRave · 17/10/2020 17:45

Why not what.

StanfordPines · 17/10/2020 17:46

I’m just too distracted by the idea of this single washing machine and dryer sat in a supermarket car park.

I’d be pissed off too but I wouldn’t have expected the other woman to wait.

PotteringAlong · 17/10/2020 17:46

She’s probably just been reading mumsnet... Wink

CallmeMrsScavo · 17/10/2020 17:46

@FairfaxAikman

Ok now she's being bloody deliberate- taking each item out individually and folding it whilst glaring at me.
Maybe she saw your post?
WorraLiberty · 17/10/2020 17:47

I don't think she did anything wrong.

One of you would've had to wait 30 minutes. I'm not sure why it should've been her, since the dryer was empty when she arrived.

As an aside, I love how she 'waltzed' off to the supermarket as opposed to walking.

Was she wearing a ballroom gown? Please say yes Grin

FairfaxAikman · 17/10/2020 17:47

I should say the cycle was basically done, the last two minutes are basically a safety feature and you are essentially just waiting for the washer door to unlock.

And to answer a PP by "single unit" I mean the drums are side by side but they are all controlled by one computer panel.

I’d like to hear more about her waltzing in to the supermarket. I prefer to foxtrot there myself

jenniuol · 17/10/2020 17:48

Actually I think yanbu, I think that was pretty shit of her but there’s not a lot you can do except wait till hers is finished so you can put yours in. Can you hang on the half an hour?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 17/10/2020 17:49

*Waltz onto thread, I mean.

It doesn't change the fact the dryer was empty when the woman arrived to dry her washing 🤷‍♀️
Mbhatescf123 · 17/10/2020 17:49

Ah she is being an arse if she’s taking each item out one by one and folding carefully and glaring at you because she knows you would rather she took all the washing out and then folded it at her car. That is the polite thing to do or at the very least she could apologetically say she feels compelled to fold her washing fresh from the drier and lots of like that as it helps with the ironing and some things won’t even need ironing if you fold them right when they are still warm from the drier x

romeolovedjulliet · 17/10/2020 17:50

heck i feel like doing the tango with ben willbond in lidl car park now, sod the shopping Grin

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/10/2020 17:50

The individual folding is twattish, yes.

It's in a medium heat.

I'm in Scotland but TBF I've never seen this set up anywhere else. Bloody handy though for emergencies as it's 24 hours.

There's also a local farmers vending machine thingy, with sections for carrots, potatoes and eggs and the like

How is it "shit of her" to use the dryer? OP does not own the dryer. OP was not using the dryer. Why would OP be entitled to get the dryer?!
FauxFurCoatAndBigKnickers · 17/10/2020 17:51

Was there another dryer free? If so why didn’t you ask her to use another one and explain that the one she was going to use was the only one you could fit your stuff in?

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/10/2020 17:52

That is fucking awesome.

Tsubasa1 · 17/10/2020 17:53

YABU

ApplePlumPie · 17/10/2020 17:54

Why do you get to use the dryer but not the other lady ?

FauxFurCoatAndBigKnickers · 17/10/2020 17:54

Sorry just reread OP. So this was the only dryer then? In that case YABU. Why should she have to wait to use it when it was free so you don’t have to?

BananaFlavouredPancakes · 17/10/2020 17:55

YABU and entitled.
