To send my child back to school without getting test results!

I'm on the 5th day of waiting for his results. Ds 1 tests came back negative, still waiting for ds 2 who is fine. We are all fine. I can't afford time off work, ds needs to go back to school. 119 are useless. They have finally lodged a complaint but could take 3 days from now and then it could be lost. What should I do? I'm at breaking point with it all and theres no one to complain to!!

Why have they been tested if they’re fine?

You’re only supposed to get a test if you’re symptomatic.

You isolate if you’ve had contact with a confirmed positive.

Why do you all need to have tests?

DDiva · 17/10/2020 13:06

What was the reason for testing ?

Jelly0naplate · 17/10/2020 13:09

I assume he had symptoms seen as you got them tested???

Yabvvu to send him back without test results and symptoms.

LastGoldenDaysOfSummer · 17/10/2020 13:11

Of course you can't.

Marzipan12 · 17/10/2020 13:11

If you got a test because your child has symptoms you have to continue to isolate. 10 days for child 14 for the rest of family .If you got a test for your child not displaying symptims then shame on you for wasting a test.

LIZS · 17/10/2020 13:12

Have you all been si? You need to wait for either results or 14 days from potential exposure.

Dilemmawithemma · 17/10/2020 13:12

It’s fine in my opinion. My daughter had some symptoms and she tested negative, my son had her same symptoms 2 days later. I didn’t bother to test him as it was clear he had what his sister had and he was in school fine.

OverTheRubicon · 17/10/2020 13:15

You weren't supposed to test him anyway with no symptoms.

If the issue was that ds2 had symptoms, then yes send them both back to school but don't waste tests in the future.

If the issue was that you were exposed to someone who has tested positive, then you have wasted even more tests, because you were meant to self isolate for 14 days no matter what and only test if developing symptoms.

Yes it sucks, but there isn't much of an alternative right now. Are you eligible for ssp or the extra funding?

LakieLady · 17/10/2020 13:17

You would BVU to send them back without a negative result.

A colleague of mine is very unwell atm with Covid contracted via her DD's school. Colleague has a blood clotting disorder that makes respiratory infections dangerous, plus asthma, and shielded completely until the schools went back. Despite taking every possible precaution a lone parent with a child in primary can feasibly take, she still became unwell and for her, hospital admission is a very real possibility.

This is spot on.
SallyTimms · 17/10/2020 13:20

Don't. Please, just don't. If your D's displayed symptoms and needed a test, he needs those results before returning.

I appreciate you may be at breaking point but this on / off attendance due to covid is going to become the norm for some time, in addition to two week isolation blocks. We have had two isolation blocks of time to put up with from 2 different schools, it's a pain, but while schools are open, and they really, really, really do need to be in my opinion, then this is a consequence of that.

VainAbigail · 17/10/2020 13:20

If your son is fine, and you are all fine, why and how did you get him tested???

Brighterthansunflowers · 17/10/2020 13:21

If DS2 never had symptoms then YABU for testing him, that’s why people with symptoms can’t get tests

If he had symptoms YABVU to send him back until the test is negative or the isolation period is up

WhatNameToChooseNow · 17/10/2020 13:21

FFS could you live with yourself if it killed a teacher or their loved one?

lunar1 · 17/10/2020 13:22

No, you have to isolate until the results are back or the end of the required isolation period.

None of can afford this, but we all have to follow the rules.

TidyOmlette · 17/10/2020 13:26

Can they complain to you for wasting a test and their time?

Dickorydockwhatthe · 17/10/2020 13:32

They both had symptoms. Ds 1 was off school isolating due to confirmed case in his bubble had cough and temp, ds 2 then had developed a slight new cough that evening. So based on ds1 circumstances I obviously decided to test both children. Ds1 is negative so likely ds2 is too!! I've had enough 5 days or more for a test result is not good enough. I've lost a weeks wages I can't afford any more!! My manager is messaging me every hour for results. I've been stuck in for a whole week!!

You can only return with a negative test or once the isolation period is over. We had a student return following an inconclusive test, he then went on to test positive...imagine the consequences.

dementedpixie · 17/10/2020 13:35

If ds1 is off due to contact with a case then he continues to isolate for 14 days regardless of a negative test result

ImSleepingBeauty · 17/10/2020 13:35

Yes YWBVU and you know it.

We’ve just been through the testing process. Having to isolate as a whole household while you wait for results is pure agony. I hear you. Ours took 4 days just to get the (negative) result. But it is necessary.

I’m assuming you have informed the school that your child has been tested. Are you going to lie when asked about the result? My DC’s school asked for a copy of the result before re-admitting my child. I know from reading up they are not supposed to do this but they did and I happily provided it.

If someone at school asks your child are you going to tell them to lie?

Danglingmod · 17/10/2020 13:35

You would be incredibly selfish to do this.

I know lots of families where one child has had Covid and another hasn't or one adult has and the other hasn't.

Please wait for the results.

Dickorydockwhatthe · 17/10/2020 13:36

Ds 2 is fine now no symptoms the one who is still coughing is negative and can go back to school because he has his results!! How can people afford this? Ive stuck by the rules, I've did what I needed to do and yet they can't explain why I've had one test result and not the other!! If I didn't care I would have tested and isolated in the first bit but now 5 days later without no results still? That's acceptable for families who have to take leave or claim sick pay?

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 17/10/2020 13:37

It won't matter what the results are as DS1 needs to complete 14 days isolation anyway due to the incubation period

Danglingmod · 17/10/2020 13:37

The one who has been in contact with a positive case must isolate for 14 days regardless of a negative test, because that is the average incubation period.

ilikeitwhenshegoesbabababababa · 17/10/2020 13:37

Jesus Christ

Just follow the rules ffs

Don't be a dick
