To send my child back to school without getting test results!

I'm on the 5th day of waiting for his results. Ds 1 tests came back negative, still waiting for ds 2 who is fine. We are all fine. I can't afford time off work, ds needs to go back to school. 119 are useless. They have finally lodged a complaint but could take 3 days from now and then it could be lost. What should I do? I'm at breaking point with it all and theres no one to complain to!!

OP. I was also stuck at home waiting for results. Most people will be at some point or will have to isolate for 14 days due to being a contact I'm would be extremely angry if a parent car my child's school sent their child back before results and then passed on the virus resulting in the class having to isolate for 14 days affecting everyone else's family's. It's not just about your circumstances, your wrong decision can directly affect the entire bubble plus family's

Purplepeonies · 17/10/2020 13:39

DS1 was sent home because of being in contact with a positive case. So even though he tested negative he should be isolating for 14 days as he could still be in the incubation period. And now he is coughing? He definitely should not be in school.

ChaChaCha2012 · 17/10/2020 13:39

You can't send them back, but I do understand your frustration. Are you able to claim universal credit to cover you for the time off?

CovidStoleTheRainbow · 17/10/2020 13:39

YANBU and YABU.
I really feel for you.

supaloops · 17/10/2020 13:39

I think that you're DS1 still needs to isolate, regardless of his results as he has been in contact with a positive case. The incubation period is 14 days, so needs to stay at home until then anyway.

ImSleepingBeauty · 17/10/2020 13:39

The threshold to start chasing them isn’t until you’ve waited 5 days so you are only just eligible to do this. From the nhs site:

“If you do not get your result within 5 days, call the coronavirus testing contact centre on 119 (England, Wales and Northern Ireland) or 0300 303 2713 (Scotland). The contact centre is open from 7am to 11pm”

Danglingmod · 17/10/2020 13:39

And I'm really sorry but this is going to keep happening and we (teachers) did try to warm people.

Year groups and classes are randomly closing all the time, multiple times, due to positive cases. There is going to need to be a huge amount of understanding from employers and better support from govt. It's very early days yet in terms of spread within schools.

ChaChaCha2012 · 17/10/2020 13:41

I hope those giving the OP a hard time are pushing their MPs to provide financial support for those self isolating?

supaloops · 17/10/2020 13:42

*your, not you're. Sorry. Darn auto type!

Rosebel · 17/10/2020 13:44

You didn't need to get your other son tested just isolate until he got symptoms. If your other son is the only one displaying symptoms but has tested negative I'd have thought he can go back.
If he's displayed any symptoms then wait for the result.

Marzipan12 · 17/10/2020 13:44

Those giving the OP a hard time are doing so because her actions can cause very real danger to others and she is directly and knowingly pitying other family's into the position she is struggling with. Disgrace full.

dementedpixie · 17/10/2020 13:45

He can't go back before completing his 14 day isolation from contact with a positive case as he could still be incubating it

Lollyneenah · 17/10/2020 13:45

Your ds1 wont be allowed back to school anyway OP sorry. Best to tell your boss that now so they stop hassling you x
You have my absolute sympathies though, it's not easy

Armychefbethebest · 17/10/2020 13:45

My son had a tummy bug and was very hot to touch I informed school who told me due to being hot but not having a temp he had to be tested or isolate for 14 days , we got a test it came back negative thankfully. But school have to be in receipt of the text message telling me this before he is allowed back to school so i dont think your sons school will allow him back in anyway it must be really difficult for you though op , i understand where you are coming from but unfortunately we have to stick to the guidelines cant be ready with your manager constantly oining you either x

Glitterynails · 17/10/2020 13:48

Please don’t send him back. I’m a pregnant teacher. Parents like you keeping children with symptoms off school and awaiting test results is my ONLY protection.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 17/10/2020 13:50

Your manager needs to accept that things are not normal at the moment. Tell them this.

MordredsOrrery · 17/10/2020 13:50

It's rubbish, OP, and I get where you're coming from, but YABU to send him back without a negative result.

I don't know how many times we're all going to have to go through this over the next few months/years(?). It would be good if all employers could afford contingency leave/greater flexibility for this scenario but I can't see that happening Sad

vanillandhoney · 17/10/2020 13:51

Surely it doesn't matter that DS1 tests negative? He needs to stay off for the full fourteen days regardless.

AndThatsNotRight · 17/10/2020 13:53

It does sound like ds1 hasn't completed his isolation yet...

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 17/10/2020 13:54

@Dickorydockwhatthe you're aware that the tests return plenty of false negatives. What is you first ds had a false negative? You send your second back to school and results are positive? You need to wait for the results.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 17/10/2020 13:54

*if your not is you!

emilyfrost · 17/10/2020 13:54

YABVU and selfish. All you can do is wait for results.

noblegiraffe · 17/10/2020 13:55

Carrying on as normal while waiting for test results didn't work out well for that Scottish MP.

MushMonster · 17/10/2020 13:55

Sorry it is taking so long. I hope you get the results over the weekendFlowers
But he has to isolate till he gets the results. Someone has to look after him, so you it is. And your employer cannot stress you about it. Those are the rules and your employer needs to follow them too.

Mindymomo · 17/10/2020 13:56

You still all have to isolate until you get the other test back. You don’t know that one is to be negative until they tell you.
