To send my child back to school without getting test results!

I'm on the 5th day of waiting for his results. Ds 1 tests came back negative, still waiting for ds 2 who is fine. We are all fine. I can't afford time off work, ds needs to go back to school. 119 are useless. They have finally lodged a complaint but could take 3 days from now and then it could be lost. What should I do? I'm at breaking point with it all and theres no one to complain to!!

It's awful that your work are nagging you when there's nothing you can do about it. Is there no way your husband can take annual leave?

morethanmeetstheeye · 18/10/2020 20:49

Really simply - I cannot believe you actually asked this

Yes. You would be being very unreasonable.

School won't accept child back without a copy of the email/your code so they can see proof of test results

Your work cannot treat you badly in this situation. ACAS or another Union would be helpful if you need support.

dementedpixie · 18/10/2020 20:52

@Dickorydockwhatthe from what I've read people on zero hours contracts can claim Statutory Sick Pay too if they are isolating while waiting on a test result for a member of their family that has symptoms

0gfhty · 18/10/2020 21:39

Yes you can claim statutory sick pay (£95pw!) if you're on a zero hours contract. However your employer is under no obligation to give you any more work after this. Many employers will decide people with kids having to take time off to isolate are a liability and will simply offer the work to someone else who is going to be more reliable. that's why it's called a zero hours contract

Vinomummyinlockdown · 18/10/2020 21:47

No wonder we are all screwed. I wonder if we will ever get back to some kind of normal as long as stupid idiots walk among us ffs!!!

dementedpixie · 18/10/2020 21:51

Its the government thats a big shower of shit that can't sort out testing or get results out on time or have a competent test and trace system. Dont blame the people caught up in the shit storm

Some of those stupid idiots are the ones leading us!

Huge sympathy for you here. I had a similar experience with my kids, though not as drawn out as yours. I did email my MP and got a very generic response about how he has every confidence etc etc. That was about a month ago and I made the point then that it's a useless system and will very much put people off doing the right thing. I think the situation has only got worse since then so his confidence was unfounded. No surprises there then. No help to you at all I'm afraid but just wanted to say you have my sympathies.

0gfhty · 18/10/2020 21:55

Often what happens is employer hires another zero hours person to cover your work and then when you return you are both kept on and given half the work. Until someone leaves or something. So a lot of people after self isolating will lose their full time job and get a part time job.i wonder how a lot of the posters on here would feel about having half their salary taken away after self isolating

user1474402918 · 18/10/2020 21:58

Also to the poster that said that school won't accept them back without proof of a negative test- I don't think that's right. Am fairly certain that the policy is that schools aren't allowed to ask for it although many might...

phlebasconsidered · 18/10/2020 22:00

Speaking as a teacher currently isolating, i'd say no. I had spoken to a parent earlier on in the week many days ago about their year 6 childs slight cough and snot. Sent in regardless because it didn't meet test threshold. Said child was in school for a week coughing and snotting before any teats.

Their brother got classic symptoms. Whole family tested and lo! They were positive. Meanwhile, they are fine: just cold like symptoms, but since then more cases in my class and in the siblings class.

If they had just been kept off with slight symptoms it might not have happened.

Casschops · 18/10/2020 22:04

All those rubbishing the OP for testing with no symptoms, schools are telling people that they need a negative test to come back in , maybe OP can't afford time off work. Blame shit show of a government who haven't funded test and trace properly.

dementedpixie · 18/10/2020 22:07

Both children did have symptoms

Dickorydockwhatthe · 18/10/2020 22:17

He has done his isolation period the school have set that date!!

In my dd’s school one child in reception tested positive so of course the year had to isolate for 14 days. The head also was off but came in before 14 days as apparently he had a negative test! So how can that be fair?

@Glitterynails

Please don’t send him back. I’m a pregnant teacher. Parents like you keeping children with symptoms off school and awaiting test results is my ONLY protection.
You are responsible for your own safety, remember that.

@Pumpertrumper

It’s a shambles OP

You won’t be given the moral clear to send him back on here but I promise you there are thousands of working parents unable to lose income (won’t be able to make rent or pay bills if take time off) who are shrugging off mild temperatures and concealing kids coughs wherever possible.

It’s all well and good to take the moral high ground when you aren’t in danger of homelessness or poverty but many DO NOT HAVE THAT LUXURY and all those taking the moral high ground aren’t going to pay your overdue bills!

(I could afford to be off with DC, but I have endless empathy for those who don’t. I grew up on the poverty line).

Well said! Bloody hate these perfect parents on here

Never been so disgusted with bitchy nasty posters as I have on this thread. How dare you all wade in and treat *@Dickorydockwhatthe* like this. Bunch of nasty woman who just can't wait to get stuck in.
Says you who has only posted being nasty to people...

Hear bloody hear. The lack of empathy on this thread is disgusting. Clearly no one has been at the coal face of unable to feed their children and faced losing a job because of it. In what la la land do you all live that you think employers always do the right thing in these circumstances. And maybe once off is fine but what happens if the OP’s child’s bubble is then sent hone next week and then next month and the month after? How do you fund that? The whole thing is bloody ridiculous and unless our shit show of a government sort it out then people with HAVE to ignore the rules in order to live.
FirefighterA24 · 18/10/2020 23:28

@IwishIwasyoda

My school won't let anyone back without seeing the results. OP raise this with your MP so that there is more support for people in your situation. Do you not qualify for the £500 payment if you miss work because you have to isolate? (i'm not familiar with details)
Your school is breaking the law, I hope they get pulled up on this as they are not allowed to ask to see the results.
nalione · 18/10/2020 23:38

WOW!, I thought it was only me. 3 tests 2 back Wednesday. Awaiting the 3rd my other child's. However could the duplicated results on mine (with the made up spelling of my name) be my daughters. Have admin messed up which also means the 3rd test will never come because they think it's already done!. Pulling my hair out. If I can't get them back to school then I can't work. Monday will be 1 week 1 day. We are all fine also. Apart from this stressing me out.

It is really stressful I do really sympathise. I didn't realise how stressful it would be and it's definitely put me off testing again which is obviously not what we want! It's the frustration more then anything especially when only half the results have come back! I think mine are actually lost and there's nothing I can do 😔
