To send my child back to school without getting test results!

I'm on the 5th day of waiting for his results. Ds 1 tests came back negative, still waiting for ds 2 who is fine. We are all fine. I can't afford time off work, ds needs to go back to school. 119 are useless. They have finally lodged a complaint but could take 3 days from now and then it could be lost. What should I do? I'm at breaking point with it all and theres no one to complain to!!

Could you just redo the test and hope it comes back. Round here it's seeming to be 24-48 hours.

nalione · 19/10/2020 00:20

I'm dreading how short my next pay will be. How am I gonna feed my children!. Soon there's no free travel for children going to secondary school. I had to send an email here. There is no other way to get in touch with the test centres. [email protected]
Hope this helps.

syskywalker · 19/10/2020 00:39

Honestly even with a negative result your kid shouldn’t go back to school as he’ll give every else the virus that is causing his cough!
And this will mean more people needlessly isolating taking tests etc.
And as many have already said as positive case in his bubble should isolate regardless for 2 weeks!

CovidStoleTheRainbow · 19/10/2020 06:45

Still no results OP?
I really feel for you, I can't imagine how stressful this is.
And worse still, this might not be the only time it happens.

I think there is a lot of people on here who have the luxury of not having to panic about money if their child is needlessly (albeit will take a while to prove) off school.

I really hope you get the results today if you haven't already.

Rowgtfc72 · 19/10/2020 08:41

Not go back with a negative result @syskywalker ? Kids get bugs all the time. You cant keep them off for a bug that tested negative.

nalione · 19/10/2020 09:15

When I rang up to query the discrepancy we tried to get another test. Unfortunately.... Computer says NO!, due to the last test ordered the Friday before. They helpline have obviously been told to offer another test if there is a problem but if the system is overiding this. That option does not exist.

Gunpowder · 19/10/2020 09:25

My results came the morning of the 6th day so hopefully yours won’t be long OP.

It’s unbelievably frustrating OP and you are right about it putting people off testing. One of my friends lives in Australia and they test for every sniffle. Results invariably come within 24 hours. How are we getting it so wrong here?

It’s a very distinct constant dry hacking cough. If your child doesn’t have that then you didn’t need to test them. Good luck OP

I think you need to be careful posting stuff like this. It is a cough...I haven't seen any official guidance that specifies a particular type of cough, and the people I know who have had it, have not said this either.
Sallyshouse · 19/10/2020 17:36

OP this is awful. I am someone who wouldn't be affected financially but I am not too ignorant to see how it causes a divide amongst class/professions.

I would honestly say fuck it, it's 10 days from the symptoms of DS1 technically, so he is fine to go back. The symptoms are a new continuous cough, not a slight cough. I slight cough all the time when my throat is dry, I don't have a symptom.

I don't understand why every one continues to act like this virus is the end of the world. Yes it does kill, but that sacrifice will eventually be made. Just like everyone got over the flu, which kills many every year.

We are sacrificing the young to save the old.

@Dickorydockwhatthe
thanks for your kindness earlier - it has been rubbish, but it has for everyone hasn't it...sorry if my post seemed judgy, it wasn't meant to be. It's just all a bit shit!
I really hope you have had a result now, and your situation has improved.

No, you break the law if you do

nalione · 19/10/2020 19:37

The wrap around care, the schools that my children are in wouldn't have them in without the confirmation text/email. So I couldn't send them if I tried!.

Dickorydockwhatthe · 19/10/2020 20:52

I've done alot emailing during this to MPs making them all aware of this situation and others like me. I finally had contact with the director of Public health for my town who was lovely, sympathetic and apologetic. She doesn't control the testing as different department but looked into it for me. Within 20 mins of giving my ds details she found his results on the system saying they came back void which is unusual. She was so annoyed and upset on my behalf that I wasn't informed or contacted. She's going to pass on my experience to the department so I hope, I really do hope this will help improve something here. I now can't get get another test and im not sure if I can go through retesting him again as we are nearly at the end ioslation and he has no symptoms. Not the outcome I wanted but I had an answer and finally someone cared and actually helped me instead of making me feel like I just had to sick it up. I rang 119 every day last week and not once did they tell me these results.

OP posts:
0gfhty · 19/10/2020 21:21

That's so crap. I'm sorry for you, its BS that it took the local director of public health to look up the results and explain the void result. Someone could have seen that when you called and had him retested earlier or at least explained that it means isolating for 14 days. Absolutely ridiculous. And what if this test had come from a hospital because they needed to know how to proceed with treatment, surely they would have to agree to a retest. I wonder if SERCO have any accountability for this sort of error that is seemingly very common. The NHS would if they were running test and trace

ExpatAl · 19/10/2020 21:49

I’m amazed by the lack of empathy and all the snarcy mean responses. Why is Op selfish? She hadn’t done it! That’s such a nasty comment. Can you imagine being skint, manager hassling you.
Op I’m sorry, it sounds very stressful. The two weeks will be up soon. Hang on in there.

Gunpowder · 19/10/2020 23:01

It’s completely rubbish. I’m so sorry OP. The testing system is a shambles. I’m glad the PHE director was sympathetic.

DumplingsAndStew · 20/10/2020 08:11

Were they able to tell you when the result was entered onto the system? Would be interesting to know if it was a 'new' result or if those you've spoken to should have told you it was void.
