To quite enjoy wearing a mask sometimes

So I can chunter a bit under my breath and no-one can see Grin Also I am extremely self conscious about my teeth so I can stop worrying about them when I have a mask on and can smile with crinkly eyes instead. Does anyone else have any mask wearing benefits, aside from the obvious?

I had to go for an eye test last week, and that awkward bit where the optometrist leans right in to shine their little torch onto the back of your eyes was much less awkward than usual. Normally, their mouth is only centimetres from mine and I always get this sort of horrible feeling that I'm going to accidentally kiss them or something 😂

Today I kept wearing my mask after leaving the shops as it was pretty cold. It warmed me up having my warm breath held on my face a while. Like a nice warm scarf wrapped around my neck.

as I've got older I've become a bit jowly which I never was. My eyes were always my best feature though. Dh, me and two of our kids voted today (early voting in the US) and we took a selfie afterwards outside city hall all wearing masks. I looked great :) My eyes were lovely. I'm sending it on to everyone. I normally never send on photos of myself.

Clearthinking · 17/10/2020 21:41

Masks the breath! Makes sensitive teeth hurt less as blocks the cold a bit. Unfortunately people can't see you smile, so I stopped, starting to scowl a bit more

Cryalot2 · 17/10/2020 21:48

Adult daughter and I often wear ones to match in with what we are wearing. I enjoyed making them and keep a basket near the door, with a good variety for us all .
I still wear my lipstick under it, I would feel naked.
Wearing make-up we do go through them.

They’re a dream for someone like me who catches every respiratory bug going around (and ends up with horrid secondary infections 90% of the time). Hoping some of those bugs die out across this mask period!

It really helped my Covid anxiety when I realised I’ve never felt so well.

Of course there are always people around sabotaging my germ-free airspace, like the dude at the supermarket yesterday who took his mask OFF to sneeze?! 🤦🏻‍♀️

@Theladyinpurple

I like it too, I have a very ugly face so it hides half of it! It feels a bit strange not wearing it out now

I bet you don't!

I'm no work of art, so I definitely don't mind a mask, I have to say.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 18/10/2020 00:00

I get bad breath now and again and masks have really subsided so much paranoia

Kerberos · 18/10/2020 00:06

With hood up and mask on I feel like a bank robber. In a strangely good way...

MadameBlobby · 18/10/2020 00:08

Good - being able to mouth swear words at annoying people

Bad - endless massive cold sores

I am getting used to them though. I had one on for the best part of an hour on a few occasions last week and pretty much forgot about it.

Nestme · 18/10/2020 00:14

I do too. van walk around a bit more anonymously. no need to put makeup on while trying to look presentable. keeps the wind off your face when it's chilly. For me very much like wearing a balaclava when skiing. (Wasn't as great in high summer of course)

SkyeIsPink · 18/10/2020 00:20

Keeps my face warm 😄

Quaagars · 18/10/2020 00:31

Yep
YANBU
Hides my resting bitch face Grin
Also if I'm feeling a bit panicky (get crappy anxiety sometimes) breathing in and out behind the mask helps

Quaagars · 18/10/2020 00:32

Grin me too lol

YoureRight · 18/10/2020 00:57

-I love not catching the constant colds that my colleagues who have kids have, even though they don’t have the basic decency to wear a piece of fabric over their faces, I do.

-Not having to put makeup on anywhere below my eyes
-Hiding my chin, moustache and jowls
-Being pretty much incognito when trying to buy stuff in a supermarket and not having to pretend to want to speak to local idiots
-not exposing others to any illness I potentially have

Zero downsides. I have ptsd and anxiety. Breathing is no bother, it’s a piece of fabric, if anyone can’t cope with it then they really won’t handle being infected with Covid19

FieldsAndSun · 18/10/2020 01:56

I do like it when I’m in situations where I would usually be required to smile, and now no one knows that Im not :)

notangelinajolie · 18/10/2020 02:05

I have horrible teeth which are also very sensitive - particularly when it's cold outside. Wearing a mask really helps. Plus I'm not sociable chatty type so a mask works well as a way of avoiding talking to people.

Also loving that sales people no longer harass and follow around you around the store. We were in Curry's this afternoon and it was lovely to be able to wander around without someone trying to sell us something.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 18/10/2020 02:22

Keeps my nose warm
As mentioned on another thread, makes going into Lush almost bearable,

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 18/10/2020 02:27

Great for hiding behind when you want to avoid people. I saw someone I don’t like much today, but I normally stop and chat for a minute to be polite. As I wearing a mask and sunglasses ( plus walking fast), she didn’t spot me. 😂

Sunshineanddogwalks · 18/10/2020 02:44

I (52, grey haired) keep getting mistaken for my coworker (24, blonde). The blessed anonymity of a mask with a uniform (and elderly patients with dodgy eyesight! Grin)

SingingInTheShithouse · 18/10/2020 02:47

Hides my resting bitch face nicely, I don't have to put up with tosspot males telling me to smile do they ever stop that shite

londonscalling · 18/10/2020 02:54

@JonasKahnwald

I love wearing my mask, hides my jowls Wink

Same here!
