To quite enjoy wearing a mask sometimes

So I can chunter a bit under my breath and no-one can see Grin Also I am extremely self conscious about my teeth so I can stop worrying about them when I have a mask on and can smile with crinkly eyes instead. Does anyone else have any mask wearing benefits, aside from the obvious?

I hate them. I feel suffocated. I can't read people's faces, there's a loss of normal human communication which changes the public atmosphere to less friendly. Everybody's in their own world. And for some reason I keep bumping into things when I wear them.

MinesaBottle · 16/10/2020 17:50

I currently have a giant hormonal zit on my chin, so wearing a mask in public is an absolute necessity Grin

Lindy2 · 16/10/2020 17:51

With my mask and mirrored sunglasses I actually think I look pretty cool. Grin I probably don't but never mind.

I actually get a little bit of a thrill walking into the bank all covered up and gangster like. 12 months ago you'd have been arrested walking into a bank like that. Now they just say good morning and squirt hand sanitiser at you.

iwishiwasonhol · 16/10/2020 17:59

the fact i can spend all day at work yawning and no one notices ,the fizzy pop burps not so good

Theladyinpurple · 16/10/2020 18:02

I like it too, I have a very ugly face so it hides half of it! It feels a bit strange not wearing it out now

IntentIntel · 16/10/2020 18:03

@Didyousaynutella

I can use my gormless, concentrating, mouth open face when at work

I noticed my gob was wide open in Tesco today, behind the mask Shock

I am going to hate not wearing one

Should be 'gangsta' Grin

Crime's increased round these parts; the descriptions of the armed robbers in the local press make me laugh. 'The perpetrator was approximately 1.65m in height, wearing dark clothing, a baseball cap and a mask'. Followed by a blurry CCTV image Grin

Hides the moustache and chin hairs that I will be waxing tonight!

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 16/10/2020 18:11

I could definitely be persuaded to wear one on public transport for ever really. Commuting on a packed train full of snotty folks all winter is revolting!
I like the disguise - breezed past my arch enemy in the M&S car park today and despite looking directly at me, she was too slow to recognise me so lost the opportunity to interrogate me about stuff Grin.

Andylion · 16/10/2020 18:12

@QueenBlueberries

I speak to myself a lot. With mask on, people can't see me doing it so they don't think I'm mad.
Yes, but I spoke to myself the other day out loud. "What the fuck is he doing driving up on the sidewalk like that?"
actiongirl1978 · 16/10/2020 18:13

I love mine. Its stylish, covers other people's perfume smells and makes me feel like I'm in my own little bubble in the supermarket.

Bubbleandboba · 16/10/2020 18:14

Don’t need to remove my chin hair Blush

The80sweregreat · 16/10/2020 18:16

I hate wearing them and I also bump into things a lot more for some reason especially in the stores.
However, i can see why some people like them and I am getting used to them gradually. It doesn't feel weird anymore.

Pinktruffle · 16/10/2020 18:19

It's easy to avoid people I don't want to talk to, I don't have to worry about facial hair, spots or wearing any make up. It makes getting ready to go out a very quick process! I've needed new foundation since March and have been able to get away with not buying any :)
I wear glasses which steam up with a mask which is annoying but other than that, I really don't mind wearing a mask. Well, washing them is a pain but oh well

Spiderbaby8 · 16/10/2020 18:27

I quite like them for hiding/anonymity purposes, although if I have to wear for more than an hour, I begin to feel claustrophobic.

81Byerley · 16/10/2020 18:30

Just before lockdown I was due to have a denture fitted when my crown fell out and couldn't be replaced. I'm still waiting and I look like a refugee from the Jezza Kyle show, so I'm thrilled to have to wear a mask!

chipsandpeas · 16/10/2020 18:33

only thing i like about wearing one if no one can tell im talking or singing to myself when im walking round the shop

Casschops · 16/10/2020 18:34

I have developed lady of a certain age chin hair and nobody can see it.

Doihavetogotoworkdotcom1 · 16/10/2020 18:48

I don’t have to pretend to be happy with a false smile

PurBal · 16/10/2020 18:48

Love it. I call it my nose warmer.

Mumsnorthernmonkey · 16/10/2020 18:50

@JimmyJabs have you tried spot cream from the doctor? Cleared mine up.

Metalhead · 16/10/2020 18:52

Don’t have to put make up on to hide my blotchy complexion! Also makes it easier to hide from people you don’t want to talk to.

Pimmsypimms · 16/10/2020 18:57

I love being able to do a massive yawn and not having to put my hand over my mouth Grin

Youandmeareluckytobeus · 16/10/2020 18:59

I have a velvet one which keeps my face nice and warm. Saving money on lipstick too.

Nousernameforme · 16/10/2020 19:02

I have found it really helps my mental health I think it's because I have to concentrate on breathing a bit more.
It's lovely to be able to go for walks without panic attacks I have also been able to go round the supermarket and we've been eating out more often. I am never not wearing one.
