To quite enjoy wearing a mask sometimes

Cheeseandlobster · 16/10/2020 15:51

So I can chunter a bit under my breath and no-one can see Grin Also I am extremely self conscious about my teeth so I can stop worrying about them when I have a mask on and can smile with crinkly eyes instead. Does anyone else have any mask wearing benefits, aside from the obvious?

Hi Op Me too, glad to know, hear I am not thethe weird one out, Only quirky one,who actually finds wearing a face mask all right at times, now I have got sort of used to them, I like the face masks they keep my face cosy warm too, an there are so different acctractive designs out. there ,also like face masks, i if run out of mints, an my breath is not minty fresh it L.o.l,( Also face mask is quite handy sometimes if you don't want someone to see, it can confuse whether its you or not at first,so don't have to allways instanely find a shop to hide L.o.l

DeliciouslyFemale · 16/10/2020 23:28

I thought there was something disgusting on my mask once, then realised it was coffee breath. 😳 I’ve taken to rinsing my mouth after coffee.

Tinyandpetite · 16/10/2020 23:32

I’ve finally got the dental treatment I needed Smile sadly I have a huge bruise on my face from it - the mask will hide it very well

SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness · 16/10/2020 23:37

I hadn't even thought of them keeping my face warmer, that's excellent. I'm quite enjoying making faces at the arseholes failing to signal at junctions & nearly running us down.
I quite like wearing my hat (for warmth), sunglasses, & mask. Am basically invisible underneath.

I found a pattern online a few days ago for a mask that doesn't fog glasses up. At least, only a very negligible amount, when first walking into a shop. No metal band needed, so it's fully washable. Relatively easy to make. I made a paper pattern after the first one, as I figured it would be better than measuring it each time.

DeliciouslyFemale · 16/10/2020 23:40

Oh that’s perfect SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness, I’ve tried a few designs, but that actually looks like would work for glasses. Thank you.

Coffeeandaride · 16/10/2020 23:40

I have a new fabric one and today it kept my face lovely and warm.

Covers spots on my chin (however I think it may be contributing to the spots on my chin)!

Cassilis · 16/10/2020 23:41

With some sunglasses it's a great disguise, can go about town without worrying about running into people.

It makes it easier to out-stare creepy men for some reason, because they can't see my whole expression.

thosetalesofunexpected · 16/10/2020 23:53

Also I like face masks as it helps to filter out any nasty odours, wish I had these face masks when I did housekeeping at a local hotel would have been a God send .L.o.l

Witchend · 16/10/2020 23:55

Ds says it's great. He can stick his tongue out at his teachers when they're setting homework.

SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness · 17/10/2020 08:18

No problem @DeliciouslyFemale. I've worn it out & about too. You do need to get the ear loops the right length - if they're too long it will sag but I'm sure that's true of many, & easily remedied, & you need to make the right size for your face - but again that's pretty easy to manage as there's 3 sizes on the video. I made the medium & I'm an average sized woman. I think my first attempt is a tiny bit loose because I left a seam allowance, but now that I've re-watched the video it looks like I shouldn't have.

It's also much better than some other masks because it doesn't sit snug across my mouth & nose & make me feel like I can't breathe so well (I'm severely asthmatic). Can easily wear it for hours.

Pickypolly · 17/10/2020 08:25
  1. definitely yes. At school pick up, ear phones in, mask on, no fecker talks to me. Just the way I like it.
    (Antisocial introvert)

  2. no. I work in a hospital.
Patients and especially relatives can’t see how I’m smiling so warmly at them under my mask to welcome and connect with friendliness at a God awful, possibly the most horrific time of their lives.
They will remember the horror but never the face of the nurse who helped them through it.

I finish my shift feeling like I’ve wasted a load of warm smiles that day. Makes me sad.

HeronLanyon · 17/10/2020 08:31

It makes me look younger. Covers my insomnia under eyes.

Lockheart · 17/10/2020 08:49

I look much prettier with a mask on. I have nice eyes. The rest of my face, not so much Grin

Lindy2 · 17/10/2020 08:57

Pickypolly a proper smile also shows in your eyes and your demeanor. I'm sure the people you are helping can tell how kind you are being even with the mask.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 17/10/2020 09:01

Ds1 with autistic traits says he likes not having to waste brainpower worrying about having the correct facial expression.

BoudiccasBoudoir · 17/10/2020 09:25

Instead of resting bitch face I have a resting sad face. I used to get told to "smile" and "cheer up" multiple times a day. It's really liberating not having that anymore. It's just as well though, because I have also developed a new habit of telling misogynistic arseholes about themselves and could do without being angry all the time.

I've given up coloured lip products and switched to Vaseline and my lips are the softest they have ever been after a life time of chapped lips.

makingmammaries · 17/10/2020 20:28

I thought it would be awful to wear a mask. Then I got a batch of soft cotton ones and I’m completely converted. Freshly laundered and dried outside they smell great. No more icky smells of perfume, cigarettes, traffic. Nobody looking at me and wondering why I don’t wear makeup. No need to greet people I’d rather not see. No need to worry about my facial expression if a colleague is talking crap. And fewer colds!

throwaway100000 · 17/10/2020 20:29

Downside - I get “mask-ne” breakouts

Upside - the mask covers the breakouts!

Wish I could find a way to avoid ruining my skin after wearing a maskSad

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 17/10/2020 20:36

There have been a few times at work I've been grateful for a mask so I can have a little chuckle without it being so painfully obvious.

gluteustothemaximus · 17/10/2020 20:39

Yes. Liberating not always wearing make up. Covering up spots. Mouthing rude words. Sticking out tongue. Less conscious of teeth. Warm in the cold. Hopefully pick up less bugs.

Hope the mask wearing stays, as in asian countries when they wear one to stop others getting bugs.

saraclara · 17/10/2020 20:43

Muslim women have been saying some of these things (especially the anonymity/privacy thing)for decades. Yet somehow most non-Muslim women didn't believe them.

For me, it's all about hiding my resting bitch face.

fiftiesmum · 17/10/2020 20:49

I can poke my tongue out at the blokes on the train with their dicks noses hanging out of their masks.
Also reduces the traffic smell.

buildingbridge · 17/10/2020 20:54

Ha! I thought it was me!!! I have bad acne spots on my chin. I love that wearing the mask can cover it.

Swingbin · 17/10/2020 20:59

I felt so much more comfortable having a smear last month with a mask on
and with the nurse wearing one. I usually find it so embarrassing but I wasn’t bothered hiding behind a mask.

YouUnlockedTheGateAnd · 17/10/2020 21:03

I love mine

I use a black buff, and with my hood up I feel like a (middle aged) ninja. It fees especially amusing heading into banks and petrol stations.

And like a pp I have always liked the feel of a scarf over my face, so it’s actually nice just being able to keep it on. Not just outdoors in the winter.
