To quite enjoy wearing a mask sometimes

So I can chunter a bit under my breath and no-one can see Grin Also I am extremely self conscious about my teeth so I can stop worrying about them when I have a mask on and can smile with crinkly eyes instead. Does anyone else have any mask wearing benefits, aside from the obvious?
@JimmyJabs have you tried spot cream from the doctor? Cleared mine up.
I'm in my 40s now and the only thing that's going to help is going through the menopause!

Mumsnorthernmonkey · 16/10/2020 19:07

@JimmyJabs absolutely not! Ask for retinoid cream from the doctor. After a couple of months your spots will have got a lot better. I developed adult acne on my chin, maybe due to PCOS, used the cream from the doctor.... and now no spots. Also the cream helps prevent wrinkles and is anti ageing. My rough dry skin is better. The cream is great! I don’t get on with the cream but the gel is fab.

Also I use Cerave cream which is cheap and effective.

I loathe and detest the things. They are too hot and make my glasses steam up. I feel like I'm living in a dystopian world seeing everyone wearing them; I will never accept it as normal. The science behind their efficacy is shaky at best. But the worst part is that I am being forced to wear them. Where is my bodily autonomy? This is not a democracy.

Mumsnorthernmonkey · 16/10/2020 19:11

@Userofname don’t wear them.

Eckhart · 16/10/2020 19:11

@JimmyJabs

I used to have that. Then I gave up bread for a fortnight in support of my dieting partner who was doing the same. Spots cleared, and never came back, even though I eat bread again now. I thought it was genetic as my mum had them throughout her adult life too, but it seems not.

I had train track braces put on in September. Am looking forward to whipping my mask off in 16 months and knocking people dead with my fantastic shiny new smile. Until then it can remain hidden under the mask, there's never been a better time to have braces but that's the only positive I can think of!

Userofname · 16/10/2020 19:21

@Mumsnorthernmonkey I don't in the shops but now in my workplace they've become compulsory everywhere, even the tea room when not eating or drinking. Its a toss up as to which is worse for my mental health, wearing a mask or risking disciplinary procedures.

JovialNickname · 16/10/2020 19:23

I don't brush my teeth as much anymore now that I can only speak to people through a layer of mask (me) and a layer of plexiglass (them)

Turgha · 16/10/2020 19:25

I did a poo at work while wearing my mask. Felt less guilty knowing the next person going in the cubicle would be wearing one. Shock Grin

Bargebill19 · 16/10/2020 19:26

I can stick my tongue out at rude people.
I can mutter to myself.
No need to worry about facial/chin hair.
No need for make up.
Detracts from the suitcases under my eyes.
Warms up the air I breathe - which helps prevent an asthma attack.
Don’t have to smile - no one can see!

Bargebill19 · 16/10/2020 19:27

Masks helps filter the smells left by other people (toilets) and food !!

showmethegin · 16/10/2020 19:28

I hate going to the hairdressers and having to stare at yourself the whole time; was really pleasant with a mask!

SusannaSpider · 16/10/2020 19:29

I can talk to myself and no one can see. My daughter's always catching me yabbering away to myself, in my own little world 😆

AlyMcNabs · 16/10/2020 19:30

YANBU. You can make faces at ridiculous people and they don’t know 😁 Be careful not to roll your eyes though - they can see that! I found that out today 🙈

slipperywhensparticus · 16/10/2020 19:30

I've had to have teeth out and its too sore to use my plate that the dentist gave me no one can tell behind the mask 🙃

MiniMum97 · 16/10/2020 19:30

I quite like them. Keeps my face warm. Definite benefit as we are heading into winter. And I look much better in a face mask I've noticed. Obviously he problem with my face is mainly the lower half. Lol.

TroysMammy · 16/10/2020 19:32

I'm saving money on lipstick and no-one sees me looking washed out when it wears off.

Mine is a panda face and I've also got a panda hat with ears. The only downside is I can't rob a bank as I look different to the blue nhs and black bra cup masks everyone else wears.

We've kind of gone off topic here, but I've been prescribed pretty much everything that can be prescribed, up to and including roaccutane, and nothing actually worked except when I was on the pill for a short time. They won't let me go back on that now because of my age/migraine risk, so yes, I do know what I'm talking about here!

EmeraldShamrock · 16/10/2020 22:29

To prevent glasses steaming up use a small bit of shaving foam to clean them it stops them getting foggy.

lilfoxfur · 16/10/2020 22:43

I like that it keeps my face warm outside! In summer they were unbearable but in winter , with hood up, you can be both warm and completely anonymous 😂

ResplendentAutumn · 16/10/2020 22:47

I also curse alot under my breath!

bumpsadaisy11 · 16/10/2020 22:56

I've got a massive spot on my chin at the moment & the mask hides it beautifully.
Although wearing the mask makes my nose run, it doesn't matter because I just squeeze the mask onto my nose & it mops the snot up 😃👍

WhatifIfeellikeacat · 16/10/2020 23:04

People look younger with the mask on.

CeibaTree · 16/10/2020 23:20

They keep my face warm on the school run :)

You could try lining it with a pocket tissue. You could use Bobby pins/hair grip to attach it. That way you can change it easily.
