Lasagna with cheese on top

451 replies

RainbowRaine · 15/10/2020 18:53

Just ordered a food delivery as a treat, DH ordered a lasagna and it came with cheese on top.

I would of complained as cheese does not belong on lasagna but DH loves it as says it's meant to come with melted grated cheese on top.

I disagree and think it's just meant to have the white sauce.

Should Lasagna have cheese?

YANBU = No cheese

YABU = Yes cheese

@MeetMeInMontauk I'm here

Just reading through everyone replies and I can see that cheese does belong on a lasagna I think you are all wrong

If your only experience of Lasagne is the horrible cheap diet ready meal versions, then you may be forgiven. Some of those don't have cheese on.

RainbowRaine · 16/10/2020 09:42

Janevaljane I make my own just never add cheese on top.

Kudos for returning😂

FairFriday · 16/10/2020 09:43

Where do we stand on garlic bread and lasagne. Or lasagne and chips?

TheNoodlesIncident · 16/10/2020 09:46

What did your DH think of his lasagne OP? Was it nice?

Of course you can disagree if you like, especially if you're not a cheese fan. I would add cheese to the top of a moussaka if I could, even though it's already topped with inch thick bechamel

Ginkypig · 16/10/2020 10:18

So what do you do instead then?

Explain the top inch of your lasagna to us please?

IamMaz · 16/10/2020 10:19

Are you thinking of moussaka, OP?

Feisty one you are!

TheSeedsOfADream · 16/10/2020 10:49

@Ginfordinner

You do put cheese IN the sauce don’t you OP, tell me you do?

Traditional lasgane isn't made with cheese sauce, but I'm into fusion cooking Grin, so I often put cheese in it.

Traditional lasagne is made with bechamel sauce mixed with the meat sauce and cheese.

Here in Italy.

TonTonMacoute · 16/10/2020 11:31

Lasagne without cheese grated on the top!? Where were you dragged up OP.

I like to tuck pieces of mozzarella in the lasagne as well, lovely, gooey melty cheese. Yum.

Noitjustwontdo · 16/10/2020 11:32

Of course it does, it’s one of the cheesiest pasta dishes in existence.

Babyboomtastic · 16/10/2020 11:37

Do you at least sprinkle cheese in between the layers?

LavaCake · 16/10/2020 11:40

Even if you don’t make it with cheese on top why would you complain?! It’s a really normal and common thing - absolutely nowhere near complaint worthy.

lazylinguist · 16/10/2020 11:55

Obviously YABU. I'm slightly baffled by the occasional poster who says "No cheese on the top, just parmesan" Confused, including the one who defended this by claiming Brits mean cheddar when they say cheese. Ummm no, we are aware that other cheeses exist, and that parmesan is in fact cheese. Grin

I hope all you lasagne fans have discovered the awesome 'Pasta Grannies' FB page. Videos of ancient Italian nonne deftly creating rustic pasta dishes in their own kitchens with their skilled, gnarled hands. And of course putting lots of parmesan other cheeses too) on things (including their various versions of lasagne).

Too much stodge for me. I'm not a manual labourer. I like salad with mine.
FairFriday · 16/10/2020 12:32

Me too - but some people do like their carbs.

pinkbalconyrailing · 16/10/2020 12:33

@FairFriday

too much. maybe a leafy salad as side or some extra roasted veg.
Ginfordinner · 16/10/2020 12:44

Also I'm not stingy with my portions so there is no need for more carbs.

Brighterthansunflowers · 16/10/2020 12:51

Love lasagne with garlic bread and chips!

But then I am from the town that created the pie barm (meat and potato pie on a bread roll) so triple carbs is the opposite of a problem to me!

Sertchgi123 · 16/10/2020 12:55

The cheesy topping is the best bit.

EnidPrunehat · 16/10/2020 13:11

No cheese on top? What fresh hell is this? Pshaw!

biddybird · 16/10/2020 13:15

My family is Italian (from Puglia) and we always make lasagne with mozzarella & parmesan cheese on top and parmesan between the layers and NO bechamel sauce!
