Lasagna with cheese on top

451 replies

RainbowRaine · 15/10/2020 18:53

Just ordered a food delivery as a treat, DH ordered a lasagna and it came with cheese on top.

I would of complained as cheese does not belong on lasagna but DH loves it as says it's meant to come with melted grated cheese on top.

I disagree and think it's just meant to have the white sauce.

Should Lasagna have cheese?

YANBU = No cheese

YABU = Yes cheese

Traditional lasagne is made with bechamel sauce, not cheese sauce, BUT it has parmesan sprinkled on the top. So YABU.

I can't vote because I have no voting buttons.

No CHEESE?
HOW VERY DARE YOU!

Natsel84 · 15/10/2020 23:05

Ironically I made lasagne for tea tonight .... with lashings of cheese and white sauce

Whatthebloodyell · 15/10/2020 23:09

Ok so I don’t put cheese
On the top, but I do put cheese
In the white sauce. You do put cheese IN the sauce don’t you OP, tell me you do?

rubydoobydoo · 15/10/2020 23:16

No cheese? Is this a reverse? Hmm

TheSandman · 15/10/2020 23:19

Bechemel sauce does not have cheese in it. www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/bechamelsauce_70004

Traditional lasgane isn't made with cheese sauce, but I'm into fusion cooking Grin, so I often put cheese in it.

lipstickonapig · 15/10/2020 23:25

How do you make lasagna with out cheese? Confused

FairFriday · 15/10/2020 23:28

They questions is not ‘how’ but ‘why’?

seayork2020 · 15/10/2020 23:36

Huh? I have never knowingly eaten a lasagne without cheese, my own has about a whole massive pack of it.

I am sure the Italians may be shocked but then I am presuming the pizzas, Indian & Chinese takeaways people are used to are not exactly authentic either

Hmm12121 · 15/10/2020 23:38

Cheese on top and cheese sauce inside!

SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness · 15/10/2020 23:38

Hmm. Do we think that the OP has:
A) had a massive row with their DH over the worthiness of the cheese in the lasagne;
B) had a massive row with their DH but made it up Wink;
C) had one too many gins & forgotten the thread;
D) seen the votes & flounced.

FWIW, I am with the poster who nearly got divorced over peas in lasagne. My DH has occasionally committed culinary crimes. I hear you.

MrsClatterbuck · 16/10/2020 00:47

@cherrybakewellll

My husband once out peas in a lasagne. It's the worst row we've ever had. It was borderline divorce territory.
Peas and lasagne do not belong in the same sentence never mind a lasagne dish.

Definitely yes to the cheese. I don't make lasagne but something similar a bolognese pasta bake. Basically same ingredients and always put a layer of grated cheddar and mozzarella on the top.

Mypathtriedtokillme · 16/10/2020 00:53

My Italian mil always makes lasagna within cheese (fresh mozzarella) on top but she puts sliced boiled egg in it which is rank but traditional.

jessstan1 · 16/10/2020 03:54

Strictly speaking, it is not cheese sauce in the way we would have it with cauliflower; it's Bechamel sauce on top of cheese, ie the cheese is not stirred into the sauce during cooking.

Lovely.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 16/10/2020 04:57

It is 5am, I'm still awake due to insomnia... And I fancy a lasagne. With cheese. I'm in the there is no such thing as too much cheese in a lasagne camp

If we're making Italians turn in their graves... What would they think of German Spaghetti Bolognese Pizza?

userxx · 16/10/2020 07:16

@Mypathtriedtokillme Why ruin a good lasagne with egg 🤢. It's bad enough finding it in a fish pie, just wrong.

JamminDoughnuts · 16/10/2020 07:17

of course

TheNoodlesIncident · 16/10/2020 07:59

I'd be quietly distraught if my lasagne didn't have plenty of cheese on it. It's the best bit! I'm going to ask my Italian friend (from Italian restaurant stock, the kind who scream in disappointment if you haven't eaten every single scrap of your mains. "You no like?! It no good? Aaaaaaah!!"), not because her opinion ends the argument, but I just want to see what she says! Grin

But now I really desperately want lasagne... Sad I'll have to get some for tonight's dinner.

I hope OP's DH enjoyed his cheesy lasagne.

Rose789 · 16/10/2020 08:09

Just nipped to Tesco before work to buy ingredients to make lasagna tonight. 2 different cheeses to go on top and when it’s cooked I plan to sprinkle Parmesan all over it.

SnackRussell · 16/10/2020 08:10

The is the most U of AIBU I’ve ever ever seen.

Ginfordinner · 16/10/2020 08:12

I'm also craving lasagne.

Yesyoudoknowme · 16/10/2020 08:15

I voted YANBU but then I hate cheese...

MeetMeInMontauk · 16/10/2020 08:47

I love the fact that OP was so thoroughly steamrolled over that they haven't even been brave enough to return to their own thread 😂

FairFriday · 16/10/2020 08:59

(I bet she doesn’t even have cheese on pizza...). It’s just not right...
