Lasagna with cheese on top

RainbowRaine · 15/10/2020 18:53

Just ordered a food delivery as a treat, DH ordered a lasagna and it came with cheese on top.

I would of complained as cheese does not belong on lasagna but DH loves it as says it's meant to come with melted grated cheese on top.

I disagree and think it's just meant to have the white sauce.

Should Lasagna have cheese?

YANBU = No cheese

YABU = Yes cheese

No wonder your husband was excited to finally get one with cheese on. I think they would of laughed at you if you would of complained 😂

bananaskinsnomnom · 15/10/2020 21:52

Definitely cheese on top. The white sauce is meant to be flavoured with cheese! And some extra mozzarella slices on top for good measure.

Lolwhat · 15/10/2020 21:53

Cheese obviously goes on lasagne🤣

VeggieSausageRoll · 15/10/2020 21:58

This thread is going down in MN history.

"I've name changed for this but I've been here forever... Cancel the cheque, naice ham, cheeseless lasagne..."

Lougle · 15/10/2020 22:03

It's the law. 4oz cheese in 2 pints of white sauce. Grated cheese sprinkled lavishly on top of the final white sauce layer. Oven at 200°c fan for 30 minutes.

yikesanotherbooboo · 15/10/2020 22:05

I thought grated Parmesan over the bechemel sauce was standard and essential. Amazed by the small but vociferous no cheese brigade but secretly tempted by the mozzarella layers of which I was previously ignorant.

Baaaahhhhh · 15/10/2020 22:06

It's obviously an "English" lasagna. No it shouldn't have cheese, just a sprinkling of parmesan.

Last I checked parmesan was cheese
Baaaahhhhh · 15/10/2020 22:07

Oh god, I've just read other are putting cheese in the middle too..... no, just no. My Nonna is rotating in her grave.

Baaaahhhhh · 15/10/2020 22:08

Yes, but cheese to previous posters, means cheddar or morzarella, neither of which should be anywhere near a lasagna.

ChrisOnTheBeach · 15/10/2020 22:09

WOW, unanimous! And yes cheese on top for sure. And melted beautifully too. YUMMMMMMMMMMM! Grin

I think that’s the american style?. Loads of american recipes use cheese (or campbells mushroom soup) instead of white sauce.

True.
Marie84 · 15/10/2020 22:10

That's what we had for dinner tonight! I always put grated cheddar and mozzarella on top!

IHaveBrilloHair · 15/10/2020 22:10

Always parmesan on top.

BrettAndersonscheekbones · 15/10/2020 22:15

I once lovingly made a veggie lasagne (with cheese), left it on the worktop only to find one of the cats licking the cheesy top. I'd spent ages making the bastard thing so I scraped the top layer off, added a load more cheese and didn't tell anyone. Not even sorry.

LadyFidgetAndHerHandbag · 15/10/2020 22:20

My Italian Nonna taught me how to make lasagne when I was 12. Her teaching was "when you think you've got enough cheese, add a little - more just to be sure".
Though "a little more - just to be sure" is her favourite phrase, especially when it came to feeding grandchildren.

AriesTheRam · 15/10/2020 22:21

I make lasagne with cheese on every layer.Yabvu

Cantbreathe2020 · 15/10/2020 22:31

@checkingforballoons

Cheeseless lasagne? Have we not suffered enough this year?
😆😆😆😆😆
Cantbreathe2020 · 15/10/2020 22:33

@cherrybakewellll

My husband once out peas in a lasagne. It's the worst row we've ever had. It was borderline divorce territory.
I guess I needed that belly laugh!!!

Your husband is 2020 evil

WiggleSquiggle · 15/10/2020 22:35

What fresh hell is a cheese-less lasagne?!

Cantbreathe2020 · 15/10/2020 22:36

@Bummsbet

Traditionally lasagne doesn't have cheese on no. But it's amazing with it! I put Stilton in my cheese sauce and then a good sprinkle of grated cheddar on top. Try it. Live a little!
Yes it does. Any Italian will tell you that it traditionally has always Parmagiano Reggiano on top of the Bechamel sauce
Wintershereagain · 15/10/2020 22:46

Parmesan cheese in the top ready to make nice and crispy when it’s baked - plus in my house I’d then grate fresh Parmesan on top once it’s on my plate

Quandaries · 15/10/2020 22:47

Imagine working in a takeaway in the UK and getting a call with someone complaining that their lasagne has cheese on top.

Dontsaykwen · 15/10/2020 22:50

I hope you have learned a valuable lesson
