Lasagna with cheese on top

451 replies

RainbowRaine · 15/10/2020 18:53

Just ordered a food delivery as a treat, DH ordered a lasagna and it came with cheese on top.

I would of complained as cheese does not belong on lasagna but DH loves it as says it's meant to come with melted grated cheese on top.

I disagree and think it's just meant to have the white sauce.

Should Lasagna have cheese?

YANBU = No cheese

YABU = Yes cheese

Cheese on every level & on top

jessstan1 · 15/10/2020 20:43

Cheese and Bechamel sauce go in layers in a lasagne, not just on top of the dish though the sauce goes on top of the cheese; mozarella, parmesan, cheddar optional but I use that too.

Laurendelight · 15/10/2020 20:45

Without cheese it’s just a ragu.

OrangeCinnamon1 · 15/10/2020 20:46

@Brunt0n

What the hell kind of lasagne doesn't have cheese?

Cheese on every level but extra cheese (including parmesan and mozarella on top). No idea if everyone's Italian great grandma are turning in their graves but I love it.

Blondiney · 15/10/2020 20:53

Meat with cheese is just wrong, point blank wrong. However, even I throw a bit of parmesan on the top of a lasagne, only a sprinkle mind.

I'm Italian and would never think of not putting cheese on each layer and definitely on top.

blackandred · 15/10/2020 20:58

Team Cheese (with crushed up crisps on top)

Loving the facility to just see posts just by the OP. Stops me wasting time reading through pages and pages.

This thread is nuts. I would weep if I was given lasagne without cheese.

Jenasaurus · 15/10/2020 21:06

Lasagne without cheese is like toad in the hole without sausages

longtompot · 15/10/2020 21:07

I make lasagne with a white sauce and then top it with grated cheese and some oregano and a bit of salt and pepper on top.

TartanDMs · 15/10/2020 21:07

middlesexgirl Plus the bolognese sauce of course

Yes, of course. My list was just the very top of the beast!

I can't get on with bechamel sauce, it has to be cheese sauce though. I don't eat lasagna at restaurants, or as a ready meal, because of this.

Namechangeme87 · 15/10/2020 21:07

Do you not eat cheeseburgers? I mean, I don't eat plastic burger cheese as it's rank but a nice bit of cheddar hmmmm yum!

As for lasagne without cheese on top, that's criminal!

Charleymouse · 15/10/2020 21:10

OP I think you are technically correct in that it should be bechamel sauce in the layers but it should have cheese on the top layer.

Personally I use cheese sauce all the way through then the top layer of cheese sauce has an egg or two whisked in to it and depending which kids I am feeding it occasionally has a packet of plain crisps sprinkled over the top as well. Plus lashings of grated cheese.

Painful to see everyone disappearing up their own backsides trying to come up with THE most 'zany' outrage sentence Grin

Not half as painful as eating your cheeseless attempt at lasagna would be

Wow, for the first time I’ve been on the wrong side of a definitive AIBU.

Have never made it with cheese on it top. On top is a swirling of the mince mixture and the bechamel sauce. No cheese inside either. I find the bechamel sauce flavoursome enough with the nutmeg going through it.

Now that it’s been mentioned, some Parmesan wouldn’t do any harm..

AyDeeAitchDee · 15/10/2020 21:26

I'd be complaining if my lasagna didn't have cheese on....

What else is meant to be there?! Burnt pasta?

you need to try a philly cheese steak!
