to say......More decency, credibility and humanity in his little finger than in the whole of the Government put together.

RedSquirrelGreySquirrel · 13/10/2020 17:26

What’s prompted this? I can’t say I’ve noticed him saying or doing much of interest tbh.

poshme · 13/10/2020 17:28

So he wants to shut down the whole country for 2-3weeks.

Some of us live in areas with very low cases. Why should we have to lockdown- killing businesses, when there are hardly any infections?

VaggieMight · 13/10/2020 17:28

Completely agree, but the bar is pretty low. I'd have more faith in the first week contestants on The Apprentice being more competent than the current cabinet.

randomer · 13/10/2020 17:28

His press conference and utter despair.

Hosting a press conference without any medical experts present? Demanding a 2 or 3 week full lockdown?
It was literally last week they were voting against the rule of 6 and now he wants to shut schools?!
Credibility my arse. He has seen that hospital numbers are increasing as we knew they would and has gone from one extreme of doing nothing to another extreme of full lockdown.

He looked like a little boy playing at being PM.

ElsieMc · 13/10/2020 17:34

Not sure about him but have warmed more towards the shadow health secretary who normally looks like he has fallen out of a nightclub at 4 am. Good on GMB this morning and had ideas. I think KS is reactive not proactive which is easy in the current circumstances. I also notice the left are sniping about him.

Also watched him on a news channel prior to him winning the leadership where he simply wouldn't answer a straightforward question on his stance on brexit.

He is in the honeymoon period at the moment but with politics and football you are hero to zero in no time at all.

midgebabe · 13/10/2020 17:34

Countries that are recovering best economically are those that control the virus most strongly
Countries where life is almost back to normal are thosthe that control the virus most strongly

So to save your job, your house, your sanity we need to control the virus most strongly

Sage implied that given where we are now, with rising cases and a crap tracing and isolation process, lockdown is the only way to control the virus ..although actually it might need to be longer than 2 weeks because that was their recommendation a few weeks ago

rosie1959 · 13/10/2020 17:38

He will soon make his mind up
Quite frankly he appears far too slimy but then I am no fan of the Labour party

PracticingPerson · 13/10/2020 17:39

He looked like a little boy playing at being PM

He really didn't. People might not like Labour policies, but Starmer looked far more competent, coherent and prime ministerial than Johnson.

And the point of a 2 week lockdown is to get it under control. Areas with low rates are fortunate - but rates are rising everywhere so getting it down further will still be positive.

Langsdestiny · 13/10/2020 17:40

He doesnt want to shut schools but dont let the facts get in the way.

midclegs101 · 13/10/2020 17:45

Starmer reminds me of the "grey man" John Major. He lacks any gravitas and is a spineless worm.

He's totally let down the women in Labour; both his MPs and members. The abuse many Labour women have received for having an opinion (see www.rt.com/uk/503251-rosie-duffield-attacked-transphobia/) - and his utmost silence on the matter is an indication that he is a misogynistic twat. All of those women from grassroots left trade unionists groups who were expelled from the Labour Party earlier this year, just for saying transwomen aren't actual biological females. Has he done anything to redress this and apologise? Nah. He is gutless.

I've voted Labour all my life but can't anymore because of how they treat women and girls. I had high hopes for Karmer but he is a puppet.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 13/10/2020 17:47

'And the point of a 2 week lockdown is to get it under control'

Well he'd have had some credibility if he'd had a medical or scientific expert with him go back up this miraculous claim that a 2 or 3 week lockdown would be of any benefit.

What he could have done was back the Governments tier approach, encouraged compliance but nope he does a big excitable bitch plop then runs off the stage. What a prat.

roses2 · 13/10/2020 17:48

He wears too much make up for my liking.

DrManhattan · 13/10/2020 17:49

He looks like he washes his hair unlike Boris

Where is your evidence for saying he wants to shut schools?

Confused the government scientists and medical advisory committee including Whitty recommend this. It has been all over the news today.

Starmer can't have them stand with him as they work for the government and he is the opposition.

Criticise the idea if you want but at least try to understand the UK political system!

midclegs101 · 13/10/2020 17:54

@roses2

He wears too much make up for my liking.
I spotted it on his collar the other day, so he's clearly doing his neck too. I know they all do it but it's hardly watch a YouTube channel to get it right ffs Grin

On a serious note; we really really need a strong opposition right now. I wish Labour would start to behave like the credible party they used to be. I'm surprised he's so listless and uninspiring - I'd have thought with his excellent track record as a human rights lawyer he'd be someone who would speak in the HoP with armloads of evidence and clear statements

dorispiffle · 13/10/2020 17:55

@getoffyourhighhorse

There you go - it was recommended by the SAGE. Boris has chosen to ignore the science

'Where is your evidence for saying he wants to shut schools?'

Oh sorry I must admit I was only half listening I thought that's what his excitable 2 week CIRCUIT BREAK plan was? So just shut everything except schools even in areas with low infection rates? Honestly the thing to push is social distancing not locking down shops.

MarieG10 · 13/10/2020 17:56

Pure politicking....stung by criticism he criticises but Labour as ever didn't offer an alternative.

Unless I missed it...what he didn't answer is that it is 3 months since the last lockdown...so is his plan have a lockdown every three months?

Oh an no,answer to the stats that the number of excess deaths from non Covid causes has shot up...because people aren't going to hospital

I despair frankly that non of our illustrious leaders have any realistic plan that isn't based on a premise that we can defeat this...as we can't until, there is a vaccine ...and we might not get one

Or- and this is just an idea- he paid attention to the recent advice by SAGE?

You look so silly here Grin.

I believe he is a very decent person, clearly exceptionally bright, but I can’t see that he has been doing all that much lately, quite honestly. He’s demanding the very thing the experts recommended 3 weeks ago, govt rejected it then and they’re still rejecting it. That’s not smart politics imo
LockdownLump · 13/10/2020 18:03

Couldn't agree more midclegs

willstarttomorrow · 13/10/2020 18:17

Well of course. Anyone with a standard level of intelligence and a brief understanding of his/upbringing would know he could wipe the floor with career politicians like Boris and his mates. The really sad thing is there are lots of local MPs on all sides who are bloody good local MPs. By default they get tarred with the same brush as the attention seekers in cabinet or those who have this as their goal. The wonderful Jo Cox; for example only became well known following her tragic death. Jo was a local MP who was respected because she really beleived in representing those in her electerate and using her role to make positive change. No real glory or headlines. Just getting on with the job. There seem to be far too many people in politics who forget who they represent but we also let them. People have become so weary and disempowered. Historical scandals which have caused resignation and shame seem so tame now and people generally believe their vote changes nothing.

Dustballs · 13/10/2020 18:18

Why does it matter what Starmer looks like?
