to say......More decency, credibility and humanity in his little finger than in the whole of the Government put together.

OP posts:

He looks like he washes his hair unlike Boris

^

My kids hair looks like Boris' when he towel dries it after showering, Kier's hair looks like my kids hair when he's then covered it in grease and slicked it back.

MJMG2015 · 14/10/2020 20:14

You say you know he's a lawyer anda politician & yet you still think he's a decent human being?

My point was rather based on emotion, not rational thinking

Well that was obvious 🤣

When you've stopped fawning all over him, you might see through the very obvious tactics.

Then again, maybe not...

Definitely! It's revolting, you could fry chips in it!

Yes, his career as a human rights lawyer definitely rules him out from being a decent human being. Just Google his record - what an utter bastard Hmm. Us sillies fawning all over him must have misunderstood it Hmm.

Starmer hasn't conspired to have someone beaten up or been sacked for lying. As you say Utter bastard!

JoanWilderbeast · 14/10/2020 20:47

His voice has a prissy sound to it which reminds me of Iain Dale. Rishi Sunak sounds like Tony Blair, to me.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 14/10/2020 21:04

'Starmer hasn't conspired to have someone beaten up or been sacked for lying. As you say Utter bastard!'

Wasn't he the head of Crown Prosecutions when the decision was made not to prosecute Saville due to insufficient evidence? Forensic.

'His voice has a prissy sound to it which reminds me of Iain Dale. Rishi Sunak sounds like Tony Blair, to me.'

Yes! He sounds like he has a peg on his nose. Poor Starmer, we wants to boom but can only squeak.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 14/10/2020 21:07

He*

looseddaughter · 14/10/2020 21:34

haha I knew someone would bring up Jimmy Saville. He was head of CPS at the time but was not the individual who made the decision and, according to Full Fact ordered the investigation that uncovered the problems with the way the case was handled.

But, yes, that wipes out being instrumental in ending the automatic death penalty in more than one country representing environmentalists against McDonalds, just for starters...as I said, a total bastard.

Yet he still manages to destroy the bluff and bluster of the charlatan Johnson at every PMQ.

Re Jimmy Saville - here's what Johnson thinks about spending on Child abuse investigations......

Boris Johnson sparks fury by saying money spent on child abuse investigations has been ‘spaffed up wall’

looseddaughter · 14/10/2020 22:48

Of course Hancock is responsible for what goes on at PHE - he appointed Dido Harding to be in charge knowing she has a track record of failure - she's set to be in charge of the NHS next, FFS.

Starmer's comments on anti-Semitism are extremely well-documented and it's bizarre you don't think the actions he's taken as leader say more about his stance than what he did or said when he wasn't leader and someone else was. He's not responsible for Corbyn's views or actions and I'm amazed anyone can accuse someone of racism while defending Boris 'watermelon smiles' Johnson.

He publicly criticised Kate Green's comments and apologised, as did she, yes.

Have Johnson and Cummings apologised/resigned for undermining trust in government at such a crucial time? No. Has Jenrick resigned for being as dodgy as they come? No. Has Alok Sharmer apologised for saying anyone could pay to influence government policy? No. Has Johnson stopped referring to NHS test and trace when he knows full well it's Serco test and trace? No. We could go on and on forever. You may not be impressed with Starmer's achievements and maybe they're not all that, but this is the sleaziest government we have ever had and anyone with a shred of decency left the Tory party/was booted out by Johnson last year.

Starmer's obviously not perfect, despite me coming across as his greatest fan, which I'm not, but the OP said does he have more credibility, decency and humanity than the government, and the answer to that is patently yes and I cannot comprehend anyone who has paid the slightest bit of attention to what has gone on over the last year arguing otherwise.

Oh, and with the Tories having an 80 seat majority, voting against bills is pretty pointless. Abstaining so that amendments can be put down, and perhaps then voting against if they fail, constitutes using parliamentary procedures, which is what they are paid for, rather than making grand yet pointless gestures.

Mammyloveswine · 14/10/2020 22:50

I've a total crush on him.. Blush

justgeton · 14/10/2020 22:55

I can't comment on what he says because he makes my skin crawl too much for me to listen.

StoneofDestiny · 14/10/2020 23:00

Labours response to Johnson calling investigations into child abuse 'a malarkey' where money was being 'spared up the wall said his comments were ' inappropriate and offensive to victims’ families, branding him a “shameless, dangerous oaf”.

Labour spokesperson said, “Could you look the victims in the eye and tell them investigating and bringing to justice those who abused them, as children, is a waste of money?”

BadLad · 16/10/2020 23:13

Anyone got any thoughts on the order to abstain regarding the Covert Human Intelligence Sources Bill?

Seems a strange position to take, especially as he once represented a victim of undercover police, and indeed used the case in a campaign video when he became leader.

looseddaughter · 17/10/2020 09:13

I saw a really detailed account of the reasoning rom someone within the party (can't remember who - it wasn't someone well known Blush). I just tried to find it to link here but I can't. Basically it said Starmer has explained in detail to his MPs that the law needs to pass because currently the activities it seeks to regulate are not covered by any law and that is a dangerous situation. It said 'cops' acting in this way have uncovered lots of terrorist activity so it's not as simple as banning it all outright. He sees a lot of flaws in the law but it's better than nothing and Labour will amend it when in power. I think it doesn't over-ride the human rights Act etc so some of what is being said about it (legalising rape etc) is inaccurate. By abstaining it means the bill goes for a second/thrid reading which means Labour MPs can put amendments down and improve it and LAbour peers also intend to do that when it goes to the Lords. However, Starmer wants it to pass even without amendments if needed as he is very clear there should be laws on this rather than none. Obviously, with the Tories having an 80 seat majority LAbour can't stop the bill but they can try and amend it.

I hope that's right and I've not said anything stupid/inaccurate - wish I could find the link!

He’s awful. As if a two week lockdown is going to achieve anything (except economic Armageddon).

You don't think it will severely reduce transmission rates. especially if at half term, so the schools are closed and get us down to a lower infection rate in preparation for winter?
Hopoindown31 · 17/10/2020 09:22

Well it was recommended by SAGE. The alternative (what we have now) is months of weak restrictions that will be constantly changing, region to region, slowly strangling businesses affected.

Hopoindown31 · 17/10/2020 09:26

I like Starmer, but I do wish he could somehow land a killer blow or two on Boris. He has the arguments, but they don't seem to be reaching the public.

Very unsurprised about his position on the undercover cops bill, he was DPP after all. The problem is many in his party are linked to the kind of protest groups that have been infiltrated in the past, often to a much greater extent than those organisations that were a much greater threat and so it was always going to be a hard sell.

Whereas if the Tories were in opposition they would be silent as the grave...
